It really is! The lav mics we have aren't the best, so this was our solution without having to buy more equipment.

I've used all of these techniques in some shape or form for client work and short films over the last couple of years and "saved bacon" doesn't qualify for how useful it can be! Thanks for putting them all in a handy reference guide :-)

The Film Look Unfortunately not which I am gutted about. My wife is off to a concert with her mum and friends so all my regular dog sitters are unavailable so can't leave the little buggers. It's a shame as I'm in Newcastle on a shoot next week but I don't think I'll have time to swing by as I'll have a producer in tow. Sorry guys.

In this case, I would've just used the audio from the phone.
On a recent film, we shot the wide shot with the boom out of frame and then recorded close ups, it can work with a little adjusting in post. I also tried to mix lines from the close up of the other angle but if the microphone is off axis it is harder to mix because it sounds slightly different.
Makes a lot of sense! We had originally planned on doing 2 people in a park, but we couldn't grab someone on short notice and the sun was going down lol

can't find any info on far shots, will you use a LAV, overdub, or make another close up take with preferable non overlapped dialog that you can cut and match in post?

Does the camera have to be on a tripod for masking it out, or is it a way around it if the camera is handheld?
There are 3d tracking/motion camera tutorials online for painting out with a clean plate. It's a vfx heavy process, but it can be done with some patience and some handy dandy after effects work.
