Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning animated feature film comes to life in this first-ever stage adaptation, full of dazzling sets, captivating musical numbers, and wondrous puppets of beloved characters. Adapted and directed by Tony Award-winner John Caird (Les Misérables), two unique casts and performances were filmed during the show’s acclaimed 2022 run at Tokyo’s historic Imperial Theatre, featuring Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi as Chihiro.

STUDIO GHIBLI FEST is back in theaters and bigger than ever - highlighting all ten of Hayao Miyazaki’s iconic animated films with Studio Ghibli, as well as the first-ever North American screenings of SPIRITED AWAY: Live On Stage, featuring two separate full performances filmed during the production’s acclaimed run in Tokyo last year.
It’s a year of celebrating animation master Hayao Miyazaki with the first-ever nationwide retrospective of his Studio Ghibli works, including several anniversary titles: the 35th Anniversary screenings of My Neighbor Totoro, 15th Anniversary screenings of Ponyo, and 10th Anniversary screenings of The Wind Rises. STUDIO GHIBLI FEST 2023 has also added more screening dates than ever before to meet increased fan demand.
Each of the 10 animated features will be shown in both original Japanese and English dubbed versions and will include exclusive selections from the documentary series 10 Years With Hayao Miyazaki. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

I was lucky enough to see this play five times.Seeing ”SPIRITED AWAY" on the live stage is like entering a dream world.
However, when I watched the video streamed in Japan, I was able to see MONE's detailed acting and facial expressions in detail, and it felt like a live performance.

I will never forget the day I saw mone's version of Spirited Away at the Imperial Theatre, the best stage in Japan.
Mone is the youngest actress in history of Yomiuri Theater Awards to win in the Best Actress category for both Spirited Away & Daddy Long Legs.
She was amazing.

When I watched the stage, the crying scene ahead was wonderful.
I was really touched by it. I thought it would feel cheesy but it didn’t at all. I could feel all the emotions Chihiro would be feeling then and I wanted to cry too.
It was amazing. I was so tuned into the show that I started crying with her. Beautiful acting

醍醐虎太朗君のハク素敵ですね。ハクの髪型と衣裳は1000年昔の武士、貴族の少年のものです。
私の身内の少年がハクにそっくりなのでハクのコスプレ衣裳を無理やり着用させハクと呼んでからかって遊んでやってます。笑。
演出も、表現も、ハクもハクのまんまだし千尋が千尋過ぎて、上白石さんもかんなちゃんも本当にすごい…素晴らしい舞台だと思う
何度か劇場で観たけれど、素晴らしい作品なので、是非アメリカの方々にも千と千尋の神隠しの世界を味わって欲しいです

Haku says he put a spell into the onigiri so it would "breath a little life" into Chihiro - and then when she eats it she finally let herself feel the weight of everything that has happened to her so far and breaks into tears. It's been a while since I saw the movie, I didnt remember that little detail

I remember her performance when I watched The knight’s tale first time in 2018. John Caird has casted her in his productions as a main character in 4 different works. She is his muse for his work and really loved the play “daddy long legs”, too!!

My favorite scene in mone's acting...
・The scene where you cry while eating a rice ball really hurts my heart.
・Please pay attention to the movement in the scene where Yubaba's magic pulls her to her room.
・Mime that comes out a lot is also a highlight. I do a lot of detailed acting.

i watched spirited away when i was around 5 or 6 i dont remember, i had this feeling that i watched this movie someday when i was 12 or 13 so i began searching for it's name. after finding it 1 year later i rewatched it again and ohmygod. it was the purest movie ever.. now im 16 and it's still my fav till this day.
Daigo Kotaro is one of my favorite actors and to see him as Haku is so awesome.

Saw this in theaters this past Sunday. It was fantastic! Major props to the actors and especially the stage hands! Insanely creative use of limited set pieces and puppetry. Absolutely brilliant.

I was lucky enough to see this play in London, at the Coliseum, in June, 2024, and was greatly impressed by the performers.
There are even songs added, which I did not expect.
There is also time for most of the performers to gain a moment to take 'centre stage' and show what they can do.
The puppeting of smaller characters I'm getting used to, as many British stage performances now use puppeting to create things impossible otherwise.
This became famous with the play 'War Horse', which was later made as a film.
I was fortunate to see the 'Tonari no Totoro' / 'My Neighbour Tototoro' stage play the year before.

This has always been my favourite scene of the movie.
I especially like when she eats the onigiri while crying though, I wonder how they played that part right after this clip cuts off.
Chihiro is released from her nervousness and anxiety by Haku's kindness and cries. This is the same as in the movie; mone's crying performance makes people feel the same emotion and they cry together. After that, Haku wipes Chihiro's tears with his hand, which is a performance only Daigo can do and makes her feel very sweet.
It is very cute.
Blu-ray with English subtitles will be released in July. I want those who missed it to see it.
