Enjoyed this conversation. My dad got a terminal melanoma diagnosis when I was six. He was admitted to a drug study at Duke university, and I asked him if it would help him get better. He said, “No, but there’s a chance that it might help someone else down the road.” The future is uncertain (or in my dad’s case, horribly certain), but focusing on helping others can help give meaning to the inevitable suffering life brings to our door.
