I was born relatively close to Brick Lane but live in Ireland now. A couple of years ago I visited Brick Lane as a matter of urgency with my wife and son as I had heard the the restaurant numbers were dropping sadly. We ate in Graam Bangla. The waiter took our large and varied order without writing anything down. I was convinced he would get something wrong. He didn't! I was so impressed - but I continued to be impressed with the quality of the food and also the friendliness of the restaurant. There seemed to be conversations going on between all tables and the staff - and we were very much included. Lovely food and fantastic atmosphere - it was like a big family dinner gathering! Such a shame restaurant numbers are dropping - I just hope it can be a well managed transition into something even better (that's a tough one) as the Cllr suggested it will be. Thanks for all the videos - they are superb.

Here's an idea, why not create a Bengali Thali day.
Each vendor could serve directly from their shopfront door to create a buzz and with some bengali music blasting really promote the beautiful food. Would be easy enough to create a buzz on social especially with your great channel. Big family day, all welcome. Educate the masses and create new customers to make sure of tradition fruition!
Love your work as always mate all the best from Scotland.
P.S. tried shatkora for the first time after watching your vid. Unbelievably good!

I worked at the brewery in Brick Lane all through the 80's. Your description of the kebabs in a puri with red sauce brought it all flooding back. We used to buy those for lunch for about 50p each. A favorite restaurant (well cafe really as had vinyl floor tiles and formica tables) was the 'Nazrul' because it was so cheap but the dishes were so authentic. I miss those days. Love your channel :

Back in the late 80s and early 90s used to frequent the Lahore Kebab house on Commercial Road. Back then it was a small little place. We used to wait in our car to be called to a table. Loved the Lamb Kofte curry and enjoyed with plenty of roti bread and chappatis. Now the place has taken over the whole building.

Same thing is happening in Manchester, Latif. Our curry mile (Rusholme) was full of curry houses..it's mainly Middle Eastern/Shawarma restaurants now. I'd imagine with the younger generations going to college/University..they are going down different career paths and not wanting to take over the family businesses ? Leaves no option but to sell up. Great video..the food looks 👌🏼 👍🏼

It used to be cheap, original and you bought your own beer. I remember eating off one of the side streets and there were just 5 tables, it was like eating in someone's front room. I liked the flock wallpaper which had sadly gone!
