Training advice
-------------------------
A little information for everyone, as i get asked a lot.
I bought Jessie from a pet store when she was 6 weeks old. She wasnt hand-fed/Hand-rasied.
My technique for training her was mainly spending 80-90% of my time with her, she is a single budgie without a friend, she needs to spend the majority of her time with someone as budgies get lonely easily. She has free flight which means she is out of her cage most of the day aslongs as someone is home, her cage door is left open and she comes and goes as she pleases. If no one is home her cage is kept closed just for her safety. I leave windows and doors shut when she is out of her cage or when her cage door is open and i make sure there are no hazzards which can harm her, such as housplants which are toxic, candles, air fresheners, fans, and heaters. She has plenty of toys in her cage and around the room. She has a bigger cage designed for parrots as i believe it is important to have plenty of space for them. If you are not able to do all of this stuff i would sugest getting your budgie a partner, i realise not everyone is in a position where they can spend this much time with their bird, its only possible for me as there is always someone here the vast majority of the time.
As for training. I used a dog clicker and her favorite treat. I started with the 'step up'' command. I put my finger to her and said in a calm but firm voice ''up'' and everytime she stepped on my finger or even walked towards my finger, i would instantly click my clicker and give her a nibble of some millet and say ''good bird'' in a loving voice. I used this technique to train her to do lots of different things, and if you are persistent enough it will work but you also need to show them enough love and time and give them plenty of toys. You can tell when a budgie is happy as they are always hyper or alart and playfull all the time. If your budgie is ever just siting around quietly looking unhappy it usually means they are either sick or they are bored and/or lonely.
Also another thing jessie likes is music and being spoken to, So try this with your birds too.

What a well-socialized, affectionate friendly budgie.
I showed this video to my budgies,putting my cell phone in their cage. They watch it with interest,look for the budgie and even try to clean his feathers and give him a kiss when he reaches forward.interestingly,my budgies even copy his happy singing. They love Jessie
I do that to mine too! Sometimes I record him, then play the video of himself back on loop and put the phone in the cage. He gets REALLY interested, gets up close and won't stop checking it out.
I find it so adorable when animals get close up to the camera like at 1:28

This is exactly what my 10 week old budgie looked like. So little and cute... so precious. He used to arch his neck when I rubbed his head too, makes me miss him so much. Sadly, he died at only 4 months old, this reminds me of him so much, it made me smile, but also very sad. I miss him. Good luck to you!!

Yes totaly agree with You ,I don't undestand this.I have now a Very Young Couple they want to be and stay together when I got them ( not then but they wanna stay together and also with me.They choose eachather and also me at that time) How Loveley to Watch Your Own Cute's and Incredible in Love with Eacather (Realy Love is in the air) and then people think ooh it's not Cute or Loveley.Hello afcourse it is ,very Nice and Loveley to Watch Everytime ,got Pctures of this and they think oh ooh yes where now on camera and looking is there anything ? Im so jelous... after a traumatic event where mine bled from the stomach from falling from too high and me nervouslly holding him by force to clean him up and he screemed so much, now he is so fraid he doesnt even allow me to pet him : ( Im so sad...... but so happy to see your budgie be this happy. thank you for sharing !

Offer him tiny little bits of fruit from your hand. Be very patient and wait for him to take it. You might try using a spoon first so that the bird gets desensitized to your hand being in the cage. Good luck, and so sorry your bird got hurt!

What a beautiful vid in this world of nasty ones. Absolutely lovely. I love budgies, family bred them back in the 50's. Dad bred a purple one like this. Mum got the budgie out to show the coleman. It flew away !! ( Trouble )...We later just kept one blue one called Georgie Porgie.
Maybe I will have one sometime. In any aviary, budgies are my favourite. Well done you.

I've only had my budgie Pistachio for 3 days I got him alone because I want him to bond with me instead of another budgie I do feel he gets lonely sometimes though, so I show him this video and he chirps away! Happy as ever!
haha. good decision you made. you should get few toys so he doesnt feel lonely though. and talk to him a lot
if he seems lonely then that means that he isnt getting enough time, you need to spend 80 to 90 percent of your time with him. please consider getting another budgie, budgies get depressed if they are alone. the fact that you say he seems lonely at times means that he isnt getting enough of what he requires.

My budgie looked exactly like yours but she passed away a few years ago at the age of 5 1/2 years. I miss her a lot. definitely the most unique pet I've had.

This makes me miss my budgie...I got him when I was ten (20 years ago) and he died at about 17 and a half. He was so tame, smart and loving, just as Jessie seems to be.

Sorry you lost your budgie, he sounds to have been amazing. I lost my budgie last Oct after 10 years, I still miss her but her mate Tommy went very quiet and wouldn't even entertain his food. A good friend took me to a budgie breeder and I chose a Lutino for Tommy and now they get on famously 💛💚💙💜Tommy even preens his new friend

I saw this last week and thought of bringing my baby budgie inside so I can tame her and play with her (my birds laid 7 eggs and 5 survived). Today I came back from a little holiday to find out that something attacked and took 3 of the baby budgies including my one.
I am still depressed but this video just lifted my spirits. Your bird is just so adorable! ❤️

EssyBessy It might've been a wild bird, especially crows or seagulls. Most likely one of those two because a crow and a seagull were scaring my little parakeets.
EssyBessy It could have been a squirrel. For unknown reasons, squirrels do attack and kill birds smaller than them, and especially budgelings (what I call baby budgies) when they have no defense. I'm really sorry that this happened, though.

Oh yeah, little girl for sure! You can tell by the personality, her way of moving, and her vocalizations. Also, I have very rarely seen a male allowed you to rub his head like that. Females are so sweet!

Yes!! Finally a bird for me to settle onto I really wanted a cockatiel but they are way too expensive. This one is cheap and fun to handle and a silly bird I know not all birds can act the same but u can tame these and it's great!!!! ❤❤

Jessie is so darling. My sister's Jessie was yellow and green. My sister gave me the bird. I would whistle when I came to the door after school and she would whistle right back. I could hear her running around the cage all excited that I was home.

Jessie is adorable. My parakeet Sunny lets me pet him, but then he flies away. And I've only had him since 2004, so I would of thought he'd be tamer. He's a cutie though! And so is Jessie!

try watching videos where they teach you how to tame your budgie and then try it with the pet? maybe it helps!
