Building an Attached Garage Full Time-lapse

- While building this 48x48 work shop / attached garage, I used almost 100% GoPro hero 5 black cameras for the time-lapse construction video. It was a pretty fun build where we had to connect the new garage with the original post frame home. It added some complexity with the way the home was finished inside. This meant we were not able to tear off the old roof, but rather lay over top with 1x fir strips....but you can just watch and see. If you haven't already, hit that subscribe button. Love your work mate. During my working life I always stressed “always keep the work site.(Civil Construction) tidy and at the end of each working day water/rain proof. Terrific to see that you have the machinery to make your work fast and safe.

You have my complete respect for working in that weather. That's 100% big kahuna's right there. When I was twenty, I worked in front of a backhoe operator nicknamed 'Coffee' in Greenville, SC, laying sewer lines deep in the ground in the middle of dead winter and it taught me a lot about sucking it up and getting it done.

I was fortunate to have a step-father that’s hobby was a cabinet building... he had power machines that needed lots of space yet were jammed into a single car garage...this man taught me the love of woodworking and the important of space.

What a beautiful shed. So nicely put together. I hope you insulated the ceilings as well. I insulated the roof of my shed last year after having two summers of 45 deg Celsius. What a difference it makes. Cheers from the land down under.
Would be nice to see the rain gutters, down pipes internal flooring and lighting as part of the finished product. Looks like a very clean job arrived out by great craftsman. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the presentation and filming angles.

My wife and I just sold our home and are moving out to the sticks of Idaho, and this was a great learning experience. Thanks for taking the time to put it up, and I enjoyed it the way it is, no music was nice and relaxing to watch. I'm considering going the pole building route for our main home, but can't find much info online about pro's and cons of doing so. Do you or anyone else have any reading recommendations? I want to learn as much as possible to make an informed choice. Not sure if this is a cheaper route than traditional stick frame or if it's just a time saver home wise. Will be going this route for the shop for sure, just not sure about the home yet. Thanks for any info you might give.

Pole frame makes a stronger house, due to lack of joint between floor and the load doesn’t is always on the one long stud, with stick framing you save some money with not need as long of studs but the house won’t be as strong. Also pole framing has the advantage of dealing with settling and expansion/contraction better since there are lest joints between sections.
Your work is top-tier...keep it up. I never thought I'd catch myself watching videos on building pole barns. However, I just looked at a property for sale which had a pole barn and noticed that the treated timbers were placed directly into the ground rather than placed on top of concrete footers. I wouldn't have ever given a second thought about wood rot affecting the life span of the building if I hadn't been watching you use concrete footers. I was a bit sceptical at first, wondering why you weren't just burying the poles like everyone else. However, it finally dawned on me that your buildings will have a much longer lifespan because the wood likely won't rot at the base since the wood is up and out of the soil. I also wondered why you put a wainscot around the buildings, then realized that it will be much easier and cheaper to later replace short damaged panels rather than an entire panel. I'm also amazed at the time and effort you put into getting the building plumb and level...it pays off when you hang steel. Thanks for keeping up the videos, they are awesome. I'll never look at a steel pole barn again without wondering how it was made, thanks to you.

I think that should have been the first step if he was going to pour a concrete floor they went the other route in the begging so I don't think there will be a slab floor
It’s pretty common to not have the concrete poured right away, just have gravel put down first. The ground needs to settle before the concrete is done so it doesn’t crack when the ground shifts

people with different ways of building, I for one didnt give him a thumbs down, but I dont like how he installs the windows, The framing of the window should get the excess house wrap, hard to tell if they even put a level on the window either
This looks like a prefab kit wonder where you get this
In Massachusetts they make you put in large form footings that the sono tubes sit on. This causes you to dig a hole 3x the size of the tube.
That's just about perfect right there! I like the color combo and how you joined the two structures, turned our really nice. I don't understand some of the inside finishing, like why some of the wall had slightly shorter sections of metal. I think adding a wash basin and toilet would be good, I know I'd be spending most of my time in there.

Which way do you think is better - pouring a wall and then putting the brackets on the wall or doing the individual concrete piers? Seems like it would be easier doing the concrete floor with a solid wall.
I think wet set brackets are stronger... but unlike building on a wall

I loved the Drone shot thru the trusses
Not sure if I'm inventing a solution to something that isn't a problem Kyle, but when you put that Stablia magnetic torpedo level on the bracket to establish plumb you could also put a magnetic laser pointer across the bracket that would shoot a line across to the other side ensuring both brackets were parallel.
I am gathering you didnt see the string he was using instead of the laser
only things I didn't see were the floor.. i'm assuming it would be a poured concrete floor? I would think that would be done before the building is completed. .. and the electric in the new building... something that big would need some outlets and lights i'd think?
Some jobs have the slab poured before some have it done after. Kind of a trade off on the way you do it. If you pour it before, you have to build a mold for the pad. If you build it like this, the walls themselves become the mold.
A lot of electrical in a shops is also ran outside the wall so it is easily changed. You could wire in the wall a rough guess to what you might need like an outlet every 6 feet or so but there are times when you need much more. Kind of hard to tell when you will need until you lay out all the equipment you will be using.
