I just finished building one of these displays for my Daughter In Law. She runs Full Marathons so I had to scale it up. :-)
Thanks for the nice plan, Steve.
I have a vintage CNC machine from the 1890. My great grandfather passed it down to me. That's how I grew to love woodworking
A CNC or a milling machine? A woodworking CNC is computer controlled...
Yes we was a wise man and helped build America with his Computer Numerical Controled Machine. He also passed down his 1890's SawStop table saw. You can't build anything with out those.
It probably ran on steam. You know - 0 is no shovel of coal, 1 is a shovel of coal.
Steve I just wanted to let you know that iv always like woodworking. But I went to a concert that had a Cajon in the band. I searched information about them online and stumbled across your video on how to make one. Everyery since I have been really passionate about woodworking. Buying up saws and tools from garage sales and making stuff instead of buying it. Anyways I just wanted to let you know you and your channel are the main reason I really started getting in to woodworking
Love that you keep the mistakes in your videos. Makes all mine feel Ok! Nice job on the half marathons as well.
It's only a mistake if you can't learn from it.
I also appreciate that he leaves in his mistakes. Everything I make has a flaw of some kind, it is nice to know that even more experienced woodworkers experience the same thing.
Ones own life goals and achieving them are the deepest and most satisfying experiences that will be in our hearts and minds forever!
You do deserve the gold paint and that's not just because of your marathons.
Dada, When you say WWMM for beginners, give us something like this.. That encourages us!
"Embrace your mistakes and make them look intentional." That's one of the best quotes I ever heard. Amazing! Keep it up!
Congratulations for all these awards and the cool stand for it. I think we don't have this kind of wood over here in Brazil. Thank you for sharing. Thanks to MicroJig and Casper for sponsoring the show.
One of your "best" talents is your ability to say when you have screwed up and have fun with it. Really good project
Great Casper mattress ad in this one! Entertaining and informative. They are all good, but this one is better.
You inspire me Steve, you're approach to wood working has kept me from shoving a 2x4x10 up my poop shoot and becoming a pretentious prick on the tubes. Another great video. Thank you for your time and effort.
Cause silver is what you got! I love it!
This is a great idea for the medallions my son has, I think a shelf on top would be great for his trophies. Thanks for sharing!
I have been a full time woodworker for 3 years now, part time for the 2 before that. First yes I still watch WWMM weekly. Yes I still learn things from time to time even though it's not meant for me. With that said a portion of your woodworking skill will be how you can fix mistakes without anyone knowing there was a mistake to begin with. It could be small things like sanding too hard and burning through your finish, mis-cuts, or drips in your finish. All those super awesome woodworking projects you see have mistakes in them, they were just hidden well.
No wonder you look so great and have changed so much, your an inspiration to us all Steve, you have taught me so much!
Use to run half marathons and 3 London marathons. No longer able to run due to being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2016. Maybe one day take part in a wheelchair. Was wondering how to display my medals. Love this idea.
Steve, I'm old, but new to Woodworking loving your channel, and getting a lot from it. Thanks mate from the land of Oz.
Mistake? Nah - those bevels was EXTRA FANCY!
Merely a small change in the design.
Just found my next project for my cross-country running son. And I like the way the slats bevel toward the back better anyway.
I really like the photography of your artsy Casper ad; and you look really nice upside down.
I dropped a like just because of the Casper ad. Wonderful.
Having the cut-out letters put themselves in place via stop-motion animation would be an adequate substitute for cutting them out on the CNC. Be sure to add some squeaking or shuffling sound effects. Bonus points for working a Wilhelm Scream in there somewhere.
I like using alder wood being I live in the PNW it grows all over. I like it, it mills up nicely, takes paint and stain really well. Excellent choice! Nice work!
Looks awesome, Steve! Even with the "mistakes" your projects still look amazing. 🙂 And displaying your medals is in no way self-serving -- you earned each one so display them proudly! Thanks for another great project.
I was wondering why your appearance has changed so much over the last year and a half! You're just running! I was beginning to think you were sick or your health was declining. Glad you're doing well and thumbs up for filling up the board with medals!
Great project for lots of different people
The Casper ad captured the zeitgeist of our time.
I love this. I need to start back to my running. I have been slacking for the past year. That alder is beautiful
Steve, thanks for another great video with heels of genuine talent and humor. It's a highlight of my day for me to watch these!
Great video with two amazing commercials! Thank you Steve!
Keeping it real!! Looking forward to the same craftsmanship in the course! ...and they are YOUR medals, be loud and proud!! Always a pleasure Steve!
Love the comedy injected into the videos, keeps it fun, becoming a big fan
like Bob Ross used to say: "there are no mistakes, only happy little...microjigs"
Hi Steve, I downloaded your plans a few weeks ago with the intention of building this for my sister as a xmas pressie. I finally finished it today, it looks great. Thanks again.
I've been sub'd to you for some time. Keep up the great work.
We always enjoy your videos . Nice project and you did amazing job on advertising .!!!!
You're the man, Steve. You're the man. Have you ever done a veteran's folded flag display case? I'd love to have one for my dad's made with scrap lumber from the house he and mom built in 1952 that I grew up in. Thanks for all the cool videos!
Thanks Steve... A perfect gift for my wife who is also an avid runner.
Greetings from Venezuela, Steve! You're the best, thanks for sharing your experience!
That is a very nice trophy display, love it!
Half of the reason I click your videos is your microjig ad spots, they are always so funny, I hope they're paying you well haha
Steve, I really like your style! I enjoy all your vids. I have an old scroll saw like yours too, but I don't have it working yet. Thanks for all tour work!
OML that intro was great
Steve, can you make a video describing the process of making proper woodworking plans to minimize the amount of material used? Thanks!
In shop class, many moons ago we used a lot of alder for face framing cabinets and such. since i moved to the east side of the US i dont see alder in the stores. Anyhow nice use of a mistake. turned out well.
very cool and Congrats on all then medals!!!
Like the vacuum rig on the router table. Nice project!
Hi Steve I like the video but most of all I enjoy very much watching you do the commercial on casper
I really like the "design change" you did hahaha. Good job on the build but even better job on earning those medals! Quite impressive I must say.
Alder is actually used quite often as a substitute for cherry.
Nice. I'm also a runner. I would have to try to do this for my medals .. thanks ..
Nice job Steve! 👍
G'day Steve, still appreciating your channel after many years mate but go easy on the Caspar Milan stuff lol, only kidding & your new concept style show sounds cool 😎
Love the rack. Wish I had more than 1 ribbon. Thanks
Awesome intro, and awesome project!
Great job, Steve. Both on the project and the medals!
Alder is a cheap compliment wood for cherry also.
Dude when is the next video coming? I like this one but look forward to fridays for the next one. The videos for your online woodworking class must be taking up all you time. And, oh ya...you probably want to spend time with your family also. That's pretty fun too.
Never a dull moment. Love your videos.
always respect your alders!
I've used alder for many furniture projects. It machines well and I think its grain looks more like cherry. Except it doesn't change color with exposure to light.
Wow I didn't know you were a runner, I am on the xc team at my school and also enjoy woodworking. I hope to do my first half marathon this spring. This build was a great idea 👌
Most of my favorite projects came from mistakes. You should try rub and buff for the letters, it is easy to use and gives a great metal like finish, it turned out great though!
Haha jokes aside while a lot of people disrespect mistakes and those who make them, knowledge isn't gained unless we do them. So a teacher who makes a mistake does it as an example for others and the teacher to learn. There's loads of mistakes in life which have worked for the best and I make far too many which have ruined a project having to start gain haha. The thing is I see it's actually better how you did it, it looks a lot like an Asian gate with the beams pointing up at top. I fully support it pal
Nice - I need one that says "Never Don't Give Up!!"
Ahah cut all the letters with the scroll saw to realise you could use your cnc! 😂 hope you can realise your goal to fill this rack! Great video :)
Awesome video man. Congrats on your halves. Maybe we'll run a full together one day. Keep on runnin brother
Great project and video. Good work!
Awesome Display
Fun video Steve. Great idea
Great medal hanger
Always love your videos you inspire me every time!
Great project Steve as always! How great would it be if you could do TV ads, they're hilarious:)
Hey that guy in the ad at the end of your video looked a lot like you Steve!!
Never seen them IRL, but Alder looks better than the Oak to me :)
I gave a thumbs up in part because I liked the video but also just because you do not have a CNC machine in your workshop .
It's not a mistake, it's an oppurtunity for redesign
I always enjoy it when someone takes a mistake and turns it into a design element. It's all very Bob Ross. Don't make all the trees the same. This happy little tree has some bevels cut in it.
Also, "alder" can be pronounced "all-der" like "call," or it can be pronounced "ahl-der" like "gal," the way you did. Either is correct. It's one of those regional dialect things that keeps American English so interesting.
didn't know you get metals for just finishing, might have get off my fat ass and start training :)
Can't wait for your class!
I really need to put this project into practice, and I can not understand the measures and tips that will be of great help
Where'd ya go, Steve?
The CNC comment was just to funny lol
5:04 Welcome to the kerning championship.
Awesome job, congrats!!
I really like your videos!
Don't forget that .1, Steve. A half is 13.1! That .1, coincidentally, is more than I've personally run in 25+ years...
Ey Steve! Greetings from México. I just bought two GRR-RIPPERS on internet. I never saw them before, but watching your videos I knew that product. Thank you for this! I hope your sponsors pay you more now that this product can be sold to other countries. By the way. I´m going to build a whole wall of Shoji doors (japanese style) using Banak wood. But now that i bought the wood i can see the wooden boards (10 ft) are buckled (If i put them in the floor they have a small curve in the middle), how can I correct this? Cheers!
Steve, you are so funny :-))) love your videos.
This is a book box a box book a book that looks like a box 📚 📦
Yeaaaa Steve! Run it goood!
Nice Rack! Do you have plans for this project?
You've got just the right amount of insanity to keep life fun and interesting.
Legal esta peça, seus vídeos são ótimos.
that mistake it actually looks pretty good
I would have loved to see Norm own up to a mistake back in the day.
Congratulations on your running medals. Twenty years ago, before my knees went bad and I got fat I liked to run half marathons. Just enough distance to challenge yourself but not enough to feel like you're about to die.
🤣love the advert
Glad you didn't have gold paint. Black and silver 4ever!
Steve, that sure beats my sickly plaque that is already overloaded!! Hope you don't mind if I copy yours. C:\Users\MDB\Pictures\Run Pics\068.JPG
Steve, I love the display and intend on building something similar if not the same for our home. But I have neither a scroll saw or a cnc machine, so would you be willing to sell some letters and for how much?
I wanted to do a similar project with textured spray paint. Obviously there is a huge cost advantage to doing it with wood over metal but does it compare?
