What a gift -- *thanks* for posting -- as someone who was a teenager when his music first appeared I can testify to how utterly unique and powerful it was -- now part of the fabric of music history.
Elton is simply a great piano player first, then a songwriter, and he happens also to have a wonderful singing voice. I absolutely love Elton John more than any other musician. I hear the classical influence in his music , which is what first attracted me to his piano playing. I hope he realizes how great he is and how much people love and admire his vast contribution to the world of music.
Oh, Elton, thank you for doing this. We’re so glad the Lord gave you sobriety, and that you added your fight to it. We admire your talent and skills. Thank you for your service to the world.
My favorite. Finally got to see him play live. My first EJ concert was the last one he put on at Dodger Stadium. I stood up and sang Burn Down the Mission like an idiot!
Bernie and Elton have often stated that it is their first great album. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road would have been impossible without tumbleweed connection coming first.
Great and very interesting interweiw as always when James Lipton asks good questions. I often come back and look at Actors Studio, this one i've saved to look at more times.❤❤😍😍 What a great artist.
*_A remastered person and born to win, Sir Elton John still standing after all this time. He's been the soundtrack of my entire life since early years and l'll love him and his music til'the end of times ! By the way, great Interview ! 🤗💓🇧🇷👊🙏_*
Elton - I'm pretty sure you practiced enough. I was fortunate enough to see him in a one man show - just him, no band - and he really was Captain Fantastic. Absolutely loved that show, really wish I could have seen him again before he retired. If the Peer Gynt thing doesn't prove to you that Elton is a genius, I don't think any evidence could convince you of anything.
What a treat! Thank you for posting this. Great interview. Been a fan since 1970. Very autobiographical musically and personally. The only thing missing was that they didn’t talk about this 1984 marriage.
Thank you so much to the kindly soul who uploaded this; I am a Elton John and Bernie Taupin fanatic and ive been wanting to watch the whole thing for a long, long time! Id seen odd clips, border song, Daniel, and Honky Cat. However, not seen the whole interview. Thanks again!
I’m with you, Sir Elton. I could play piano but not well enough. But choir singing was my forte (ah….there it is). Put me in a choir and I’m happy as can be. Even to this day at 62 years of age.
I've been listening to him since I was twelve. Your Song is my favorite, and believe me, with him, it's hard to pick only one as a favorite. My son had this played at his wedding reception for the mother/son dance. As a child he was sung Levon as a lullaby. His first concert we took him to was Elton John, when he was ten. He stood up in his seat and danced to Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting. Need I say more?
Sir Elton John is Mozart and more. I grew up with him and his music. A gentleman who battled the demons of life and beat it. God bless him and his compassion.
Are you kidding me Loooooveve Elton John ❤ is Everything ❤ married to a Canad😂 great questioning 👍 protégé Brilliant i can sing almost everyword of everyone of your songs! Age 11 Wow sooo lucky you had the opportunity to live out your dreams! ❤
As he said his dream came true when he played with (as he said) the greatest voice in twentieth century music Ray Charles on the great man’s very last recording.
I always refer to Elton as "my first musical love" because - on his birthday in 1975 - I was the correct caller to whatever rock station in DC, and was given my choice of his albums. I requested Greatest Hits, played it for a buddy (Innocent LIttle Davey Howie, lol) and we both became Elton addicts. Going forward, we bought different albums from his back catalog so we could share so both of us had access to all of his released material. Elton lifted me out of listening to adolescent marketed crapola like The Partridge Family. Oh, those magical days...
The last few minutes shows what he is. It’s all natural. Instant recall of musical chord sequences and melody off the cuff and unique. His brain is wires this way and for him, it’s not work or hard, it’s the same as talking
If you asked me for my favorite Elton track it would probably be Nikita or "Candle in the Wind* but the version for Diana. He has payed her the ultimate honor by never playing it live again. It's too tied to that one moment in time. To perform it again would cheapen that moment.
Why have Elton John keep getting up and going to the piano just let him sit there and play and talk about how he writes his music 🎶, Brilliant writer and performer .Legendary writer of music .
I can tell this was originally broadcast in 2007 or possibly 2008 because of the commercials in it. The Beyoncé Armani Diamonds perfume ad was run in 07 & 08.
I'm surprised when they did the Restoration album, which was an album of country musicians doing country versions of Elton John and Bernie Taupin songs, nobody thought to make Candle in the Wind a country song. You'd think they'd get Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Kenny Chesney, or Luke Combs to sing it. But no. Didn't happen.
I saw him once in Lakeland,fl.after playing hit after hit after hit,he said, I've given you Everything, here are my pants...removing pants and throwing them into the audience
@@philipbrigham981he also admires Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin who he worked with and she also recorded the song “Border Song” which was on his second album in 1970; “Elton John” he has spoken about Aretha the Queen of Soul in many interviews.
I'd enjoy this more if Mr. Lipton didn't keep insisting his guest constantly go back and forth between the interview chair and the piano. Personally, I'd rather hear the stories than the songs, which are readily available elsewhere.
I certainly can see why Elton John was on 'Inside the Actor's Studio'. His list of movie credentials is quite impressive. Next they'll be inducting Stan Laurel into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Elton John. The actor? WTF? As far as I know, he's only been in one film (Tommy) where he played the Pinball Wizard who..... .......sang a song. So where's the acting? What is going on here? Has the universe imploded this fine day?

@@SpaceCattttt Sorry, I mistyped the letter "I." Regardless, Billy Joel is one what I believe are numerous musicians interviewed by James Lipton on In The Actors Studio.
I think he is an actor in a manner of speaking. Singing is acting with your voice. Even if he is not an actor by your definition, I think students in the Actors Studio would benefit from listening to a singer because they have to learn all kinds of skills to portray different characters.
From the Actors Studio, "The Actors Studio is both a place and a philosophy. It is an association of artists who, drawing from this common wellspring, have made enormous contributions to American art." I think he qualifies.
Love him or hate him, there's no denying he is one of the greatest musicians we have ever known.
Why would anyone hate him?

Much respect that he acknowledged Brian Wilson.

One of the truly great artists of modern pop music....
Loved this! Thanks 🙏
He is one of my very favorites. I love him and his music so much. He is pure genius.
