- In my new series "Is it a SCAM?" I review products and services to find out if they deliver on what they advertise or if it's a scam and to avoid these products or services.
Today I review the very cheap $50 screen printing kit from Speedball. They provide a screen, speedball water based inks, emulsion remover and a few other products. Is this a reliable cheap screen printing kit OR is it a scam? FInd out in this video.

Reyes... I have no interest at all in the t-shirt business. CZcams recommended your videos to me for some reason, and your attitude alone made me subscribe. Someone with energy like yours is destined for success. Keep it up.
I watch Reyes every once in a while and your comment made me subscribe
Who cares dumbass. You have people making $80,000 a month doing it. But please never start a tshirt business stupid.
Speedball is probably the top screen printing suppy company. I like how easy they made this, there are tons of other methods you can do with this kit that can get pro quality prints. A lot of the screen print game comes with experience and just messing around with it. Coming up with new tricks.
Perfecting your skill.
Usually on any print, you are going to need 2 floods and squeegee passes or more, sometimes up to 14 passes or more, but I have never practically used over 5 passes on a customer order. Black ink is a great place to start. Once you get that down, move on to white ink. You will need a flash dryer/ flash cureer. You will do 2 passes, a flash and 2 passes, unusually it makes a great nice opaque white every time. If it looks spikey like the shirt fibers are poking up and feels like sand paper, it is from something called off contact, and your screens release and how tight your screen is in newton's.
An old easy trick to fix this is to tape some washers or coins into the corners of your screen to make it let go of shirt more smoothly.
I like to use a cut up old mouse pad.
Also if you get this kit and want to move up to dark shirts and more colors.
Get a cheap white plastisol ink.its a plastic based Ink, and it won't ever dry up in your screen.
It only drys with intense heat.
To flash dry in between your passes, you need either a heat gun and more time.
A flash dryer.
Or a bigger shop style conveyor belt style later on.
M&R has tons of great equipment.
I have heard of people using an oven, but I've never tried it.
.
You will also need a non water based ink photo emulsion to coat your screen with and burn your art into the screen.
Ulano Orange is a great all purpose emulsion to get into.
There are more advanced emulsions out there made for detailed halftone dot printing, a dual cure or diazo emulsion is best for those, but the ulano orange for halftone dots works great on a 200 to 355 mesh count and a 45 lpi up to maybe a 75 lpi but anything above 45lpi is pushing it without a dual cure or diazo.
I use 55lpi but still have trouble losing dots or dots not washing out
.
Lastly you will need a different cleaning chemical to break down the emulsion.
.
And now for colored prints on dark garments, you will always need a white underbase. Unless you are going for a darker distressed or vintage look.
Once you get your white underbase down, you put your color screen right exactly on top of it.
To help align these two screens, put a short line on the top and bottom of your artwork. This is what we call registrationMark's, or reg Mark's for short, do test prints on news paper, or old tees, or anything you have plenty of for testing.
I like to put my white down on a black test paper, then put a piece of clear transfer tape over the white print. AMD I'll wipe off the color ink from the clear tape multiple times till I get my reg Mark's perfect.
Then I'll do a test print on an old shirt. Sometimes it is off a little from my taped tests just from me wiping the ink off, it moves my platen and tester around a bit. Always double and triple check everything in screen print.
Once I know it's good and aligned, I will tape off my reg Mark's, and then get out the customers shirts, I will do one final test on the real customer shirt, if it looks good, I'll run them all, but keep an eye out for pinholes after the first 14 shirts, and after that, I'll keep an eye out for any new pinholes and tape em up.
After they are done, I'll use a goof gun to spray out any pinholes.
.
You will need to flash your white underbase. Or its going to make a wet mess and possibly ruin your colored ink.
.
You can do 2 whites, a flash, then your color, sometimes this works great depending on the color.
.
But sometimes you do have to do 2 whites first, a flash 2 whites again, then your color.
.
Artwork tip. I make all art 300 dpi, and put a 2pt stroke around my color to help with alignment.
.600dpi if it's super detailed and a 4pt stroke.
This 2pt stroke can also cut into your white underbase.
Sometimes I put a 1pt stroke on the outside of my color. And a 1pt stroke on the inside of my white underbase.
Anyways, sorry for the long comment. Hopefully this helps some people out, just remember if you run into problems, youtube and google will have the answers.
Preciate the knowledge you should try doing a video on what you said above
Speedball is the lowest of the low in the screen printing world. They are nobody’s, other then with people doing it for a hobby.
Hey do u have a page! Very informal
Speedball is literally the worst company bro. How do you not know this but know Ulano and M&R equipment? Typo???
Hope you enjoyed this new series. Always looking for feedback and you will get the exact same kit I used EXCEPT you'll be getting a brand new Speedball screen to start on your new screen printing journey. Send the screenshots to my FB or IG. Link in the description.
thank you I just literally invested the last of my money to get started with the ultimate kit and im glad the quality is good thank you for your review, also please check out my Instagram and if you like something double tap the photo thank you!!!! @_r3ameroner

chrinamint thanks for the like man
Reyes The Entrepreneur No problemo... you have worthy content! Also you are super cool! And I wanted to add, for some reason everyone on CZcams always thinks I'm a dude. But I'm a chica. ;o)
Didn't mean to sound disrespectful. I just have a bad habit of using those words without checking gender. lol
For how much an actual screenprinting setup can cost this is a great price for this. It's definitely a beginners tool and it actually looks like it works really well.
Great video.. was looking for a real review for this same kit. Thanks again and keep up the great videos
Great video man and love the vibe. I was just looking around for this kit and glad I saw your review here. Thanks for the great info

Thank you for making this! My birthday is coming up and my fiance has been asking what I want and I've always thought the idea of waking up and wanting to wear a shirt with like a pineapple or something on it and then being able to make one AT HOME, MYSELF, is just so cool so I just started looking into screen printers(like JUST STARTED lol this is actually the first video I've even watched on screen printers). I will definitely keep this one in mind! Again thank you, I appreciate you making this video!! 😁😁
I’ve always been interested in learning how to screen print. Love your videos!!!!
I appreciate the video. As an Artist I've been thinking of trying my hand at shirt printing. Saw someone recommending this kit as a start, but looking at it, I had no clue how it all worked. After seeing the process and results, I might actually try it out. Informative and positive vibes, earned a subscribe.
Dude, you are so funny. I LOVED THIS VIDEO. Very informative but fun to watch. Thanks for the awesomeness.... Good luck to you buddy

Hey I just subscribed to your channel! I've spent all morning watching your videos. Great content and congrats on your success!
This is the one that I started with too! Works great for light colored shirts. If you keep an out for the Michael's coupons you can get it super cheap. Keep up the great videos Reyes!
Believe it or not there is a guy here that uses direct sunlight for exposures. I like the sun because it only takes 15 seconds. I am buying the light kit for exposures on days with no direct sunlight. Orders don't only come on sunny days... :)
@@terijhughes hi can you help me what i neet to buy in all these prosess and where can i get iam in nairobi kenya i want to start homeprinting business plz help tx
I bought this kit before I found your channel and its perfect. I have one design with drawing fluid I have done that turned out great, and its great for stencil screen prints. No complaints. Have not used the photo immulsion yet
Thank you. I want to do the screen printing with stencils!
You can expose the screen using DIRECT sunlight 15 seconds. I did it before I was ready to invest in equipment. I was able to get clean detailed designs by exposing it this way!
What a great energy! Thanks for the video!
😂😂😂😂 I don't have a steady job!!!!
What minute did he say that?

@@TASK_27 thanks 2:06
I'm so glad I watched this. LOL I ordered a kit on Amazon. I didnt want to spend a lot if I didn't like it. I see they have higher end kits....I'll play and progress through them (or find other supplies). Thanks!
I wondered about that kit. Thanks for sharing Reyes!
Great video as always Mr. Reyes. Thanks for sharing with us! :)

I bought this kit as a starter. Thank you Reyes
You're real thorough with your testing.

Love your video Reyes!
Awesome video!! Don't envy you seems like a lot of work, so props!!
Excellent video, very informative!
Hey Reyes thanks for this video. Have a question about the light. Do you have to remove the UV glass that comes on the light? Or did you leave it on there when burning?
Wow! what a great kit for someone just wanting to start in the Screen Printing business or to just make a small run for a cause to raise some coin. YAY!
Mara Tirado that's why I reviewed it :) hope I inspired you to take this leap of faith
I"m sure you have, I send everyone that I talk to about starting a business to watch your videos for inspo. Love ya Mijo. Wish you much success.
Thank you for commenting and appreciate you sharing my videos :) Good luck on your new journey if you take it
Hey man how many shirt designs would be good to start with? Also I love your channel and your personality such a good person
If you're just starting, one design is great to start. then grow to 3 and see how that goes.
Im buying this today because of your view!!
Thanks for this dope video ! Really helpful !
Some how got on to your videos the other day. It makes me kind of want to buy this just to try, but I’m still a bit confused as far as making a design and getting it all prepped on a screen, but I guess I’ll just have to look into it a bit more! Really love the positivity you always have! Just subscribed!
Thanks :)
Reyes The Entrepreneur you know, if I would have went to your page first and realized you made a 30 minute long video on how you get your designs ready first that would have been good 😅 oh but question, I seen you had a link for a 4 color 1 station machine, do you think it’s best to get that over just a single color machine where you have to swap out screens?
LifeWithDylan if you have the money. Get a 4 color since you'll upgrade eventually
Reyes The Entrepreneur awesome! Thanks man! Hope things are looking up for you!
Very cool, You have a lot of patience great video ..
Thanks for this video, it's very helpful and informative.
I'm too lazy for all this work lol
Thank you so much for the review👌
HAhaha it is very messy, labor intensive and a huge amount of work! I'm using it because the iron on transfers got complaints.
Hola cousin Reyes,
I enjoyed your video and found it Educational and entertaining.
I am new to screen printing and just bought the SpeedBall inermediate Screen Printing Kit (2) to aid in my sublimation printing. A processof printing with a special ink with the unique ability will turn from a solid to a gas then back to a SOLID WHEN HEAT AND PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE TRANSFERS. As it allows you the ability to print on only on white polyester with varying degrees of quality depending upon the polyester content of the shirt 50% will look faded and dull while 100% will print a photo quality permanent image
I am grateful for this video as I had found the kit for $39.99 at Hobby Lobby and had no idea what drawing fluid was or how to use the screen filler so now I know and since this I am reassured that I made a great choice as I have a opportunity to test printing on acrylic which is a Poly on a cotton substrate and learn before building a bigger machine with free plans derived from the internet for a 4 color single station Thankyou.
PS you can get the plans for a press for free or purchase the kit or a 4 color screenprinting press at printingplans.com/
Outstanding , thanks for the review.
You're welcome. Any other products/service you'd like me to review, let me know.
That beat is dope as hell
Smerz One thank you
I always wanted to try but didn't know if a kit like that works. I'm going to try because of your video... I see its on sale for $45.00 with free shipping.
This channel is dope!
No idea what I'm doing, but I picked up this kit yesterday just to see if I'd like making shirts. Thx for the video.
That's exactly what it's for. A cheap way to find out if you like it or not. Hope you do and grow from it but if you don't, thats ok. Just keep trying different businesses until you find the one you like to do.
his videos are so personal (and good)
which one would you reccomend for someone starting to work with this medium: this one or the Jacquard Opaque Color Screen Printing Kit?
Or if you have a printer (or have an access to one) you can print out an structure you would like to screen print (on a normal white sheet of paper) then precisely cut the outline of the design Preferably with an (x-acto knife) and put the cut out design under a screen, then screen print your design.
Bruh I love your vibe
I was worried how they'd turn out, but both were AMAZING!
One question though - have they faded in the wash?
The Carpenter's Daughter yes it does fade. Water based inks fade way quicker than plastisol but some people like faded looking design, it depends on the design
Heat setting your prints does make them not fade. I do that and wash them a couple of times and they don't wash out.
You're freaking awesome!!!
thank you for making this video!!
Hi Reyes!!
It is legal to sell t shirts, if i do it from my home??
Great videos!
I watched t the end because you're so fun to watch.
Yeh Reyes, what ink is the best to use? What is the best transparency paper to use for my HP ink jet or my HP laser jet printer? And when I convert to CYMA on the program should I be using those four colors for full photos to put on a shirt??? Or are those the colors to use for that I should ask? Please help very new at the screen printing part of my business. I usually only do vinyl heat press. Thanks a lot, love the videos
You could have fooled me.... I seriously though you were an incredible artist
Wow it actually came out great. But lots of instructions.
I'm a new subscriber....what did you do different to get the end better in result.
Saw this for sale at the local fabric/craft supplies place. Looks to be something to just try out. They also have "buy now, pay later" credit options (Zip pay/Afterpay) which is dangerous if I am not working.
Those last two prints were cleeeeean
Funny bro. But thanks for reviewing this, waiting for it in the mail
Nice video my friend Good luck to you with everything, please can you tell me the name of the tune in the last few seconds of the video
After 4 months I finally took the plunge and made my first screen print. I learned a lot from that challenge. I learned a lot from your channel. One thing I learned by accident is that screen printing on a "girl shirt" that is stretchy causes the ink to split apart. Is there special ink for stretchy shirts or is there a special process for ink printing these types of shirts?
Their is. I've never had that problem because I use plastisol ink but I've never used it on stretchy fabric. I guess this is another challenge you're going to learn from :)
Maybe stretch the shirt out *a little bit* as you are inking it?
Poly ink
Your really funny lol keep up the work
i hit subscribe after he said "i dont even have a steady job" hahahah
Alright. Tae's designed are really nice. That's how you do custom gear.
you can buy the emulsion and screen material and just buy the 2x2 make your self the frame and it wont cost hardly anything but you will have lots of extra frames to screen print in various colors faster ;-)
Im new to this… what is the vinyl method called or how do I learn more about this? How to do it? Thanks so much
Or you can design something on the computer & put normal white paper in your cutter and put the speed down & put the cut force at 1 or the lowest , or else it will cut through to your mat or even the cutter. Then use the paper and put it on the bottom of the screen and do a screen print
Keep your ideas coming. People that read the comments are always looking for creative ways to do things.
Yeah bro! We need to help each other out. Many minds are different perceptions which means different ideas.
Milklo Vela add me on Facebook bro. You have good ideas
Reyes The Entrepreneur I just did bro
I've mentioned using vinyl to make stencils, not my idea but there are a few examples on youtube. Way faster than curing and cleaning the screen.
Hey Reyes, quick question, when you do a vinyl stencil for screen printing, I used plastisol ink but I am now unable to reclaim my screen the normal way. Do you have any suggestions?
Tony P If its the glue not coming off you can first buy thick bleach then coat the screen 3 strokes and leave it to dry in the sun. After that apply Thinners...I think that's what you guys call acetone (I'm African) then blast it off with a power sprayer.
Great job!
After a few tries it looks pritty good
how about the clear print transfer?? what kind of printer do u need for that??
I was about to say Get you some emulsion but then you busted it out. The speedball stuff is ok for beginners.
its a stepping stone but exactly like you said bro, great for beginners.
Reyes The Entrepreneur thanks for responding. Keep up the good work.
Love your videos but love your humour even more. You make me laugh so much. This looks like a mess.lol
Great upload. Thanks
Thank you for watching and commenting :)
That's it! I'm buying it!
Hey looking back at this video and knowing about your divorse, as a single dad to another I just want to say that it shows that your a great dad. 6:43 you working with you prinsesa next to you... much respect and thanks... I'm just doing homework to see if this is a good investment for me.
Do you know what kind of paint did he use at the end? thank you
Nice job!
Great video Thank you 🙏
Great Video!
Thanks Reyes!!
Great video! trying to pick up a hobby.
DUDE INFLATION IS REAL, bought the kit today it was 75 lol, but im glad I watched this video cause its simple as hell everyone else is complicated
I'm having trouble taking the screen filler off. I used the speed cleaner but it seem like it's barely working
Hey whats up buddy.. question.... what kind of light do i need ?
What is the best to get and how much I'm looking to start making my own shirt's
Hi, just wanted to ask with the positive film is it supposed to stick to the film? Because mine gets all smudged when I accidentally touched it. Thanks in advance for any replies.
