    I remeber when i did all my screen printing very D.I.Y right out of highschool. I had a particle board i cut at 30x40 and used some door hinges and c clamps to serve as a make shift print head. I made screens out of wood and used gorrila glue to glue the mesh to the screens. I also used a heat gun to dry my ink and a iron to heat set. Now im doing 100 shirt runs with a 4 color print press and a dryer.

    The ultimate kit is almost identical to the once i go over in this video. You just get a extra screen, some more ink colors and a instructional DVD. This kit will work the same way the one above does, plus you have all the colors, so you mix them to get any shade you want. You should be all set. Let me know how it goes!

  • @MobileSoundz
    @MobileSoundz Před 9 lety +38

    NEVER!! take your exposed screen outside to wash it out. Do it in a sink or tub inside so that the unexposed area stays that way. If it is exposed to the sun it may in fact begin to harden before you get it washed out. Also, keep about 1/4" between the screen and your medium so that the screen can get away from the medium after it is exposed to ink.

    • @ds61821
      @ds61821 Před 6 lety +3

      This answer is now a year late, but once you turn off the light source and remove the glass sheet and design, you can take the screen immediately to the sink and begin washing out the unexposed emulsion. The normal room light won't effect the unexposed part. The bulb used to expose the emulsion needs to be strong about about 12 inches from the design. The sun outside can be an issue if you're in the direct sunlight and wasting time getting the hose ready and setting up some way to hold the screen. But in your house with normal light you can move quickly and start washing out the emulsion (dilutes the emulsion making it hard to be exposed). I use a soft toothbrush to LIGHTLY rub those areas with finer detail to push out the emulsion.

I have a question though, I´ve got the same Speedball kit, and I was wondering if I have to make a test with the time I have to expose my emultion to the light too or if I can use the time you got (12minutes)...I dont know if it´s something that can change depending your location or if it works the same if it´s the same brand...I hope explained myself and you can tell me!! Thanks!

    I just got All i needed to start screenprinting and tody I did my first print. Everything was ok, but for the screen cleaning...where i had two problems: I used the Diazo remover and the green emulsion came out quite well (not really perfectly) but it has lots of black ink stains (all around where the emulsion was) that wont come out.
    Other problem is that the image that i have printed has stayed quite visible on the screen (not as much as the other stains which are black).
    Thanx from Madrid!

    What was your light source? I'm confused because it activates with UV and I'm not sure which kinds of lights emit UV.
    I've been doing it under sunlight, but it does it very quick, usually 30s-1min and there's a chance of overexposing it easily and bumping it because you're moving the screen outside and back inside. I'd prefer having an indoor light source so I don't have to move it while it's being exposed.

    It is a transparency. It does not come in the kit, although i feel like it should. you can get them cheap enough on ebay. I use an Ink Jet printer, so i have to use Ink Jet transparencies. They have a special coating that will keep the ink in place and not smear all over. So if you are using an ink jet printer, make sure you get Ink jet Transparencies.

      You can reuse it with a different color ink and you can leave the stencil for whenever you want to use it again.

    Thanks for this informative video. There is something I don't understand. If I have to do it Ina dark room, how am I see something? What do you use for a light source, cellphone light, a small night light?

      +Ni Cole It doesnt have to be a completely black room while youre working with it for a few mins. I usually use a low lamp on the other side of the room. When you let the emulsion dry though, definitely leave it in a pitch blackroom.

      I've taken a screenprinting class and you can also use a yellow bug light. It won't effect the emulsion.
