    Two stops before Bergen is the Flam Railway. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord (sea level), up to the high mountains at Myrdal station (867m). Lonely Planet called it the best train journey in the world. There are no less than 20 tunnels, 18 of which were built by hand. One of the tunnels even takes a 180 degree turn inside the mountain. At Flam there is a 5 hr ferry to Bergen but only once a day.

    I remember a flight there, when Bergen was still spelled in bokmål at Heathrow CRT screens, went to see a thrash metal band there while working as classical violinist in an orchestra in Trento, Italy. I know, sounds weird but it was the 90s - that's way before you were born but great video of the country side, modern Norway looks so awesome

    Definitely recommend the Bergen line if you're going between Bergen and Oslo and you have the time to take the six hour ride. So spectacular.

    Great video, but it would be better if you keep the original sound of train, railway tracks instead of music. The original sound gives mesmerizing feeling as if we are present there ourselves. Original sound increases viewer's engagement with video, if the video is a travel vlog. Please try it next time, we would like it so much.

    Great video. But to be clear, a body of water needs to be part of the ocean for it to qualify as a fjord. East of the mountains, you catch a glimpse of Oslofjorden and Drammensfjorden, but the lakes you saw while winding your way up the valleys were not fjords.

      @@ansleytaylor It's the Finse stop. Finse is amazing. We were there as the world was shutting down back in March 2020, so it was the best worst trip possible lol. We are planning to go back in March without the world's borders closing down, hopefully lol.

    Hi, I'm planning to take the train from Oslo to Bergen. Do we need to book in advance for the tickets or is it okay to walk in?

    • @ansleytaylor
      @ansleytaylor  Před 2 lety +3

      It’s always a better to buy tickets in advance. The Oslo-Bergen train tickets can be purchased online at vy.no!

      Good question, I want to know the same!!

    • @eckligt
      @eckligt Před rokem

      @@laurafischer7345 Hi, I have taken the trip several times, and in the part from Bergen to Voss, which has some of the best scenery, the best views face North (i.e. right-hand side if travelling FROM Oslo), while up on the mountain plateau the best views generally face South (i.e. left-hand side if travelling FROM Oslo). I think also ascending to the plateau and descending also has the best views towards the South.
      You could plan on having a North-facing seat, and eating in a South-facing seat in the cafe car while up on the mountain plateau around the middle of the journey. But in total, I think the majority of the good views are South of the train, so you could also spend the Bergen-Voss part in the cafe car, as that lasts a shorter time.

    Здравейте, предстои ни екскурзия до Норвегия и мислим да си направим разходка от Осло до Берген с влак. От къде можем да си закупим билети онлайн, пътува ли влака през месец октомври?

    Amazing vid, just wondering as I have booked this journey on vy website for next week it isn't clear if I can just use qr code on ticket in the email as I booked online. Did you you book online and did you need to print tickets as email mentions? Thank you so much for any help. Cheers

    • @ansleytaylor
      @ansleytaylor  Před rokem +2

      I also booked online with VY. You can print the ticket if you want, you just need to have something to show the conductor when they check your ticket on the train!

    Hello, can you share the way to buy the cheapest ticket? 😁

    • @ansleytaylor
      @ansleytaylor  Před rokem +1

      The best way to buy is directly through the website: Vy.no. this train company has trains that run all over Norway. One way tickets on the train should cost around $40 on weekdays and between $75-$95 on weekends. The more in advance you buy the cheaper it usually is!
