My only issues with videos like this is: how do we get messages like this across to PMs, the fans who went nuts with the flag, or people who are on the fence on the issue? This was recommended to me because I’m 1) Subscribed to vizeh and consume his content but also 2) am on the same wavelength. We consume media that we’re already on the same wavelength on while the opposite consume, well, the opposite takes on this matter. This video was worded so well and got to the point fairly quick, and gave STRONG arguments as to why this isn’t a big deal. I just wish this reaches more people, but it’s also highly likely that if it does reach the target audience, they probably won’t listen since it counters their way of thinking. Great vid though, loved the insight, esp the bit at the end.

With regards to the Scottish flag, Saint Andrews Cross is only a shape (a diagonal cross), whereas Saint George's Cross is specifically red on white. So anytime the colours are changed, it's no longer a Saint George's Cross.
The problem here is Nike's wording about "updating" the English flag - that's guaranteed to rile people up. There wouldn't have been much of an uproar had they said "inspired by" instead (this is why I think your comparison with bread packaging is misleading). We're also much more aware of "salami-slicing tactics" these days. I recall the designer of England's 2011 kit made comments about deliberately messing with the English flag because he associated it with hard-right thuggery and hooliganism. That says more about him than anything else - he should never have been given the job of designing the shirt if he felt that way.

With regards to the Scottish flag, Saint Andrews Cross is only a shape (a diagonal cross), whereas Saint George's Cross is specifically red on white.
So anytime the colours are changed, it's no longer a Saint George's Cross.

The problem here is Nike's wording about "updating" the English flag - that's guaranteed to rile people up. There wouldn't have been much of an uproar had they said "inspired by" instead (this is why I think your comparison with bread packaging is misleading). We're also much more aware of "salami-slicing tactics" these days. I recall the designer of England's 2011 kit made comments about deliberately messing with the English flag because he associated it with hard-right thuggery and hooliganism. That says more about him than anything else - he should never have been given the job of designing the shirt if he felt that way.
