She could just be autistic which is harder to diagnose for girls and is often mistaken for adhd. She shouldn’t have been put on meds if she had adhd. I think ngl her mom in this instance is probably the issue shes really passive.

@@tias2705 I think being on ADHD meds really messes most kids up-- maybe some kids need sedation , which is what it really is, but Cassidy looks half-asleep, and her speech is slurred. She might be harder to handle for mom without them, but here's the real problem: mom's not willing to discipline her when she talks back, so what difference do the meds make on her behavior? It makes sense that she and Cassidy both need healing right now. They need to grieve and remember the positive things about the daughter and sister they both lost. The mother is creating a situation where Cassidy is angry and she will resent her mom and her sister. Mom needs to get to know Cassidy better and find out what her interests are. She needs to allow Cassidy to find out who she is and encourage her with her dreams. Forcing her into these pageants will only make Cassidy resent her mom and her sister. I am by no means a child psychologist/psychiatrst, but looking back at my own childhood, my most miserable times was was parents, especially my mum, pushing me towards something I truly didn't ...
It's seems Cassidy's mum is pushing her into pagents, which require her to be extrovert, and engaging with the judges, when in her mind, she would be far happier being in her room, reading, playing with her toys; pets; and/or everything else she prefers to do, by herself, without being forced onto a - literal - public stage ...
I have this weird feeling she got into horror, so she could genuinely scream, not out of panic, or fear, but utter frustration ... which also manifests in her being snarky towards her mum, and a small paper-cut throws her into a major sulk.
I doubt that is ADHD, but something more serious, that can't just be medicated away, by rather requires the healing hands of an expert Child & Adolescent Psychologist, or even Psychiatrist.
And, no, physical discipline, as in spanking, won't work, per-se, either, as that _increases_ the resentment. I have clear memories of my mum using a long-handled wooden spoon on me, then, then when I was sobbing, would drag me in front of a mirror, declaring "look how ugly you look whilst crying; if you don't stop, I'll give you something to cry again ..." ...
... so back, and forth with the wooden spoon and the mirror ... which only drove the resentment further in, when what my frustration was trying to release was being hated at Junior School, by the kids, and a couple of the teachers, whom would keep me indoors during playtime/recess ... She didn't even care about the brusing when I started Comprehensive School/High School, aged 11.
Her attitude was well, I was raised in a convent school, run by American Catholic nuns, in what became Guyana, after independence, in the 1950's. Being a former British colony, her mum sent her here, to London, England. But her apathetic indifference didn't result in the same behaviours as Cassidy.
She does need boundaries, and she certainly needs a form of discipline; but in addition to that fence, there needs to be a gate which, when she gets upset, instead of being rude to her mum, actually puts her feeling out there, knowing she is heard, and listened to; it sounds like she needs a wall to kick, and scream at, especially if she is driven by a mixture of anxiety, fear, and utter frustration ... and she needs someone to listen to all of that ...
As I said, I don't mean a total absence of discipline, and certainly not physical discipline; but _misdirected_ discipline, especially out of parental frustration, causes more harm, than good ...

Not "looking like a zombie", but also, not really alert, which is the way I thought Cassidy looked, unfortunately. It seemed to me that, whilst Cassidy wasn't catatonic, she certainly was 'zoned out', as she didn't appear to be entirely 'present', which may very be that awful combination of wrong medication, wrong dosages.
Like many others, with chronic, acute, pain, it is not unknown for a 'specialist' to get what s/he thinks is the route cause of pain, only for the side-effects of drug-drug interaction, leaving me utterly exhausted, with no further pain relief, and having to tapier myself off of it ...
And as for 'doctor shopping', in search of said doctor willingly prescribing often 'black label' meds, at Xmg/day, rather than, for the same cost of all those consultations, getting to sex a Child & Adolescent Psychologist, and/,or Psychiatrist, to get to the reason why she is so angry, and frustrated, has more to do with the mum saying what _she_ dislikes, instead of asking "is she actually OK ...?" ...
... which may well be actually Cassidy having lost all prior enthusiasm for pagents, yet her mum keeps pushing her into them, due to her - the mum - wanting to keep the prior caché of the past crown winnings going ... where Cassidy is maybe just burnt out from the total circus of the pagent circuit ...but can't tell her mum that, so that her frustrations gets vented out in rude behaviour ...

the thing with sport or music or academics is if you don't win then you can work on improving your weaknesses. If you lose at a beauty pageant then you work at being prettier. Plus these pageants are run to make large profits for the organisers- unlike community sport or a school music program. So the parents spend their savings and even go into debt to pay for them. Therefore, a lot of the kids are under a huge amount of pressure to win the money back. Not winning a supreme title is seen as losing.

whether she has ADHD or not, the mother is relishing in the diagnosis. If her kid behaves badly then she just blames the ADHD and she is exonerated from all responsibility. Some parents use these diagnoses to say "see, I'm not a bad parent, it was all the illness!".
