I can see why parents are weary of the meds. doctors love to throw pill after pill onto people, and if you can naturally handle it without, it's probably the healthiest. but if you're really suffering and don't have proper guidance on how to go about it without meds, then it may be best just to do the meds.

There may be a VERY few instances (i only saw 2 in 15 years and they also had other sever mental health issues on top of it) it could be helpful but as an RN and mother of 8 it is usually what parents say just because their child isnt behaving. I tried it with our oldest because we felt guilted into it but after a few months decided against it. Also later in life he ended up addicted to any kind of stimulant and getting arrested for it. I have it severely (see a psychiatrist and counselor for it) but learned to use it to my advantage. My 5th child has it but we are teaching him to learn how to make it work for him. Neither child misbehaved. Just had a really hard time focusing and not figiting. Bad behavior is learned not caused by adhd. Some kids might have a harder time sitting still but being rude and disrespectful is not a symptom of adhd. A LOT of parents just dont want to deal with their kid and teach them how to deal with it.

She's on a non stimulant so her weight doesn't drop after Adderall caused a plateau for weight gain and then a dip (she's already skinny). The mom was kind of a spaz then too but you can tell she really is a good mom. The child died from cystic fibrosis at age 14. She dealt with the constant medical attention the child needed only to lose her. I’m certain it influenced the way she is raising her other daughter now.
