    I understand the offside rule and its purpose… but how was he not “in possession” of the puck, he pushed it forward and skated with it!
    So, if the league rules that as “NOT in possession”, then if a team takes a delayed penalty and the other team pulls the goaltender, it would be a good goal if a player on the offending team whacked a moving puck at and into the goal, because halting the play requires that team to “gain possession” of the puck.

    • @joelface
      @joelface Před 2 lety +6

      Apparently "in possession" now means specifically having the puck touch your stick or skate or body. If you're skating alongside the puck, having just touched it, you do not have possession of it. I guess?

    • @dustinhartley7825
      @dustinhartley7825 Před 2 lety +2

      I agree, and the “Not in possession” shouldn’t matter at all. If an offensive player touches the puck inside the zone while teammates are offside, it should be called. Thats how we were all taught. The rule is black & white and doesn’t need to be muddied with technicalities. Otherwise every offside will be questioned and put extra pressure on refs making the correct call in the heat of the moment

    • @cellytv8063

    Just because a puck is bouncing does not mean you dont have control. Does that mean every time a player stick handles and the puck "leaves" their stick they dont have control? No.
    Without that call the games score is 6-5. No offside goal, no powerplay goal, and no empty netter.

    F The Avs, F that "makar" goal. That sh*t was clearly off side.
    They don't want the cup in Canada.
    100% if an Oiler was offside like that, the goal is taken back and Avs crowd goes crazy.

    Alright, Steve wondering what Jay's full season record is got me wondering too so I had to check this out. He coached 34 AHL games this year (not counting pre-season) and 38 NHL games. His AHL record was 18-9-5 (they had a rough December just like the Oilers) and NHL was 26-9-3. So a .667% points percentage for the full year.

    For anyone that thinks it’s not a goal, look at the alternative angle (The angle that you see from the penalty boxes is a black on black so you can’t see the depth of the puck but it’s a solid 3 inches away from the stick), Makar let go of the puck so that his feet would still be behind the blue line and the other player could get back and then he grabbed the puck again. By the rules that are currently in the league that’s a good goal. Should the rule be changed? that’s up for debate.
    Basically look at the bench angle and you’ll see that it was a good goal

      Bruh you can literally think anything you want as a player or say anything you want but it was factually onsides
      It wasn't a delayed offsides because nichuskin tagged up, so either you can't see correctly or you're applying a posession/attacking clause from a delayed offsides rule that doesn't even apply here

    • @wt8213
      @wt8213 Před 2 lety

      @@greenbean4422 that's offside 99% of the time during the regular season. To pick it a part the way they did was ridiculous.
