- One of the complaints that people have about the modern Polly Pockets is they're not as detailed as the vintage ones. No one can beat the original Polly, but I decided to try my hand at painting one of the new ones to give it more detail. I've always wanted to try this but was afraid of messing up and ruining it. But spoiler alert...it turned out pretty dope! Be on the lookout for more Polly Pocket repaints!

Firstly, I like the portal idea. It feels very Once Upon A Time. Secondly, I almost wonder if putting the paint on the underside of the translucent plastic would give a more dimensional look? Thirdly, loved it all just the same! Adding in that “real” mirror was genius and almost feels like a nod to the original Polly’s which had that level of thought more often than not.
A nod to the vintage Pollies was the goal of these repaints! ❤

Such a genius idea! The thought had actually passed through my mind of doing that myself, but I do not have any of the new Polly's. I am collecting the Shopkins Lil Secrets instead because I find them so beautiful and the color schemes used make me think more of the old Polly's. ❤️ But I might add some little details to some of them at some point.

I removed the background sticker from my secret hideouts mermaid compact and it turned out wonderful. The sticker was a silly beach view that I didn't like, and it revealed awesome transparent blue background. I used white spirit to remove the sticker. To all of you people - DON'T use "label off" or аcetone on plastic! It may damage it badly. Use alcohol or white spirit!

I love the result! I like to paint the details on my shopkins lil secrets compacts as well (which I consider already way better quality than the reboot Pollys) and it's amazing what a little paint can do!
And it's so addictive. Once you repaint one, you'll want to repaint them all!
I don't own any of the new Polly sets, vintage is the way for me 😊 but I'm so curious about this new PollyStick technology. Is it just a sticker? Will it eventually lose its ability to hold the figures after a lot of usage?
The doll's feet are made of silicone and feel rubbery. The sticker's surface isn't sticky, but has some sort of texture that allows the doll's feet to "stick" to it. It eventually loses stickiness but according to the instructions, you can wash the doll's feet and it'll re-stick again.

OMG you did it too! So beautiful! You did a great job! I didn't seal mine until now after repaint them. Now I'm thinking about to buy a sealer. Could I seal with Mod Podge too? It's the only thing I've at home
I would recommend buying a sealer. Mod Podge is a decent alternative but will leave streak marks because it's so thick.

Polly only sticks on the Pollystick areas and for this particular set, it's the stickers. She doesn't stick on the floor but she sticks on the stickers.
Oh she sticks on my floor in this set as well. The floor is a big pollystick. That's why I was wondering.
I thought she did but on mine she didn't. The floor was just made of regular cardboard. :(

Thank you! I used acrylic paints. Nothing fancy, just the cheap ones from Michael's. I used Liquitex matte for the varnish.
That is gorgeous! Been planning on doing the same thing to my daughter's compact since she has the same thing. Do you use the same materials whenever you fix your Bluebird 90s Polly Pockets?
Yes, I use the same acrylic paints. I just use the cheap brands but I've been meaning to try the higher end brands to see if there's a difference.
You can pretend that portal you drew is a portal to the real world. Just like in the animated tv show

I think acrylic paint works best. Watercolor might not stick and oil might not dry.

Acrylic paint is very forgiving. If you paint outside the lines by accident, you can take a q-tip with some lysol and wipe it off. If it's already dry, gently scratch it off with an xacto knife.
