    In NC. We received quotes from $10-$30k to resurface our 20x40 concrete pool. That wasn’t an option. So we thought ‘what do we have to lose’ and decided to DYI it.
    Drained the pool (careful of pop ups!), pressure washed it, used chisel to get out loose pieces, sanded, repaired with hydraulic quickcrete. Lightly sanded entire surface, painted with pool paint from Lowe’s or HD (I don’t recall which), and viola! Took 2 people, a long 4 day weekend, and $1500 (including equipment rental of pump for water drain, 2 pressure washers, floor sander and 2 hand sanders). Given, it was perfect, but looked pretty nice. That was 5 years ago. It needs to be done again, but we can put out $1500 every 5 years a lot easier than $10 or $20k every 30 years.

      K T,
      Cheers on your DIY resurfacing project! It sounds like it was a lot of work to get your concrete pool resurfaced, and also it sounds like it was quite rewarding and cost-effective! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for watching!

      We did that but after a few years it looked horrible and then when we would go in jacuzzi it would literally leave a white chalky color on your feet and skin when you get out...not good and embarrassing to have to explain to people that would use our pool LOL but yes, it is super duper cheap.

    QUESTION: our pool was built in 1998. The surface has some cracks and we are about to resurface with plaster only, no aggregate added I don’t think, for simplicity. We will have a salt water system.
    MUST we get new tile if ours is in great shape?

    Those saying it doesn't cost over 10k in FL don't know what they're talking about. It all depends on the size and current condition of the pool. We can't find an estimate lower than 12k for ours in Daytona Beach.

      If there are structural issues that affect the pool’s ability to hold water, resurfacing will most likely not be the repair needed.

    I’m after some advice. My concrete pool floor needs resurfacing, it’s been painted with chlorinated paint. Can I concrete over the top of that to create a smooth floor to repaint ?

    • @RiverPools
      @RiverPools  Před 4 lety +2

      Mr. Bridger,
      Great question! Unfortunately, you cannot just concrete over the chlorinated paint as your new finish will only be as good as the layer beneath it. It is best practice to remove the chlorinated paint layer prior to your next layer of concrete. Good luck with the resurfacing project!

    • @RiverPools
      @RiverPools  Před 4 lety

      Hi J MD. You'll need to do 1 of two things: 1. Remove all the old paint and begin with a good primer and top coat or 2. remove all the old paint and replaster the pool. Option 2 is the better options, but most likely the more expensive.

    • @FJB2016
      @FJB2016 Před 4 lety

      River Pools thanks for the reply. I started to power wash what I could but the paint barely comes off, which I guess is good? Maybe remove and scrap what I can and apply a new layer of paint? That sounds bad, but besides replastering or removing all the paint I don’t see any other way? It is chipping but like I said the paint that’s there is really tough to remove even with a power washer.

    10-20k for a pool resurface, how? empty the pool, chip every damage, cracks etc. and paint - roll a bonding agent on the pool. for a regular pool 15x25 u need aprox. 35 bags of diamond bright, we're talking 2000-3000 in materials. not cheap stuff, but the best. Soooo...10-15k in labor (average worker or helper get's 15-20hr? for a 3 days job? yeah.... I don't think so... I hope people don't fall for these scams to be honest. Again, I'm talking about resurface not making a new pool.
    Just because someone makes a video of his job, now they think they become some master crafters from Italy because the video their work...
    Long story short, a pool resurface cost 5k.. 6k if they have lots of reviews online.

  • @jeanjenner4510
    @jeanjenner4510 Před 4 měsíci

    Ridiculous but expected from a guy owning a pool resurfacing company. Average of 10 to 20K is ridiculous. More like 7K... in Florida low of 5K high of 10K for aggregate... average more like 7.5K.
