      After hearing and reading the lore on Griffin school, if we got a Witcher game where we pick the character's school, I'd be a Griffin school Witcher being basically a knightly Witcher, though I'd probably go with armour similar to Raven's armour with studded leather armour, along with Griffin steel and silver swords

    I think that Erland is somehow alive and will be featured in the next game (be it a prequel or sequel)

    Elder Scrolls again!
    I'm wondering, how come Griffin witchers use crossbows, when Geralt clearly said to Vesemir that using a crossbow is against the witcher rules?

      @Yavinius  Před 3 lety +8

      Maybe they just were talking about how witchers from the wolf school never used them. But it is probably a retcon.

      @@Yavinius Quite possible; in the proogue, Vesemir calls the Wild Hun 'wraiths' even though he knows they're elves.
      Could you do cat school next?

      I believe the books never outright state that he is a Griffin Witcher, however there are only 3 schools mentioned in the books those being the cat, wolf and Griffin. It was said that Coën wasn't from Kaer Morhen which excludes the wolf school, they also didn't allow cat witchers in Kaer Morhen, leaving only the Griffin school. Later the games and other Witcher properties have always tied Coën to the Griffin school. Thank you!

    Erlund seems very capable, so he's probably still around hunting monsters, but on the other hand I doubt he's still working as a traditional witcher slaying monsters for the coin of peasants. Maybe he's in-hiding, taking care of himself and working for his own morality, or maybe he's working for a noble or merchant. As for the school itself, I think there's little difference between a Griffin witcher and a knight's errant, only that witchers are better at it and make it their job. So for the knight it might be slightly more honourable, but the witcher isn't so different.

      Erland would be around 340 or more years during the Witcher 3, witchers can become very old, but he would make even vesemir look like a young Witcher. And as of now we're not aware of the maximum age a Witcher can reach seeing how they all died due to violence. But it could be interesting seeing an ancient Witcher still fighting

      @@Yavinius Yes, but Vesemir's strength was his knowledge in how to best take on a monster, and that while he was just the fencing master. Erland was the founder of a school, so he'd be even more intelligent. In the end it still took the Wild Hunt to take down Vesemir, and Erland doesn't have that sort of challenges, so there's not much to kill him. If any witcher dies of old age it would probably be him.

    Is Erland described in the lore as missing for that long or have we just not had any stories featuring him?

    • @Yavinius
      @Yavinius  Před 3 lety +1

      The last year that has been mentioned in one of his stories was around 1171 or something. But that was before the fall of the school of the griffin. We don't get a precise year of when the griffin school was attacked but it was probably around the same time as the wolf and bear schools. And when exact those fell I'm not sure but it would have been probably somewhere between 1175-1225. At the end of Erland's story he writes down books about being a witcher which he then leaves behind. Those books would eventually end up in the hands of a dwarf named Rodolf Kazmer.
      It is never stated if Erland has passed away or if he stopped being a witcher. It has been said that kings and rulers tried removing traces off all the witchers from history which supposedly makes information on older witchers harder to come by.
