- Today I venture out alone on a solo journey to an abandoned prison in the middle of the wilderness, deep in the Great Canadian North. The plan is to explore the abandoned prison, setup camp somewhere inside, and stay overnight. When the sun sets, mother nature bears her true fangs as a pack of coyotes discover my campsite. Confronted by the animals I'm thrown into survival mode with a night I will never forget.

You’ve got balls of steel man. I went there two years ago and ran into a bear on the walk in, and when i got to the prison there was a squatter there who said he was ‘working for the owner’ to clean up the prison. He tried to make my friends and i pay 20 bucks to go in, which we didn’t pay. He had a dog and said ‘you can pet her but she bites’. The hallways that are completely clean are the ones that he cleared out, apparently he wanted to make it into a hotel type thing. The room with the furnace is the one where he camped out and slept.
Interesting, my guess is that the dude was either actually there on behalf of the owner or maybe just a homeless dude cleaning the place up so he could have a nicer area to stay

Pro tip: Get a big can of wasp spray. They shoot in 20 foot jets, and when an animal gets an eyeful, and he is out of the fight. It doens't do permanent harm to animal. Works well for home protection, too.

I love this. It's scary as hell and I'd never do it without a decent weapon. Those coyotes weren't playing; they were hungry. Many animals come out at night to hunt, animals you might not know are even around during the day. Also, psychos and other horrible types are attracted to remote places where they feel liberated and free to do things they wouldn't get away with in more populated areas. You need to be something of a survivalist to do this.
You're not wrong. There's an abandoned munitions factory near me that had several murders in it in the late 80s. Now it's heavily patrolled thanks to the teenagers bringing all their friends and telling everyone about it.

Every option has its ups and downs. If he didnt baricade that door then the roof would have been waaaaay worse because he has nowhere to run.
@@russbohman9577 yeah I think he was actually on the 2nd floor when the coyotes found his tent. If it were the 1st / Ground Floor the coyotes may have numbered a lot more and who knows what else other animals might have been there.

You take a course, wait 6 months or so and receive a federally vetted license to purchase and posses non-restricted and restricted firearms depending on your class of licence. Shotguns, Pistols, Rifles of all sorts. Whenever I'm on public land, or private with permission I carry a shotgun or rifle. Been stopped multiple times by both OPP and MNR officers, zero issues. I'm not in jail haha.

Abandoned compounds like prisons and sanitariums are usually restricted access, often privately-owned. This particular one shows clear evidence of military training, so I doubt it is public. All you need is a simple accusation against you and firearms officers will be up your ass whether it is fair or not. They want reasons to go after law-abiding citizens because they are too chickenshit to deal with real criminals who couldn't care less about firearms licenses.

It's literally a position that requires nothing more than a high school diploma, and it really shows when you try basic communication with them. They think all guns look scary unless they are in the hands of police or military. Last year I solo kayaked 6 hrs into a remote State forrest in Victoria, Australia. As I beached my kayak I remember something feeling off about the place - dense forrest surrounded my tent on three sides with river on the fourth. I only had about 30 mins before dark but still made time to carve a spear before retreating into my tent for the night. The next morning, as I was packing up I saw dozens of large pawprints in the mud within 3 metres of my tent. Dingos had been circling my tent the through the night with some of the tracks coming right up next my tents front opening - close enough to look through the mesh. I have no idea how I slept through it but I think I got quite lucky that night. Could've ended differently.

Camping at this place alone would def be scary , but getting out into nature is one of greatest things we can do. Brings us back to our roots as explorers and nomads.

I'm not much of a camper or deepwoods explorer, but I enjoy going to the lakes to fish and chill out sometimes. Even then, I'm usually with at least two other people, sometimes more if we're staying over the weekend. It's not just coyotes and bears you have to worry about, but people. We've had a couple run-ins with tweakers out on the trails and I don't want to think of what could have potentially happened if I was on my own.

It sounds to me more like it was rolled across the floor a short distance, if he threw it backwards about 10-15 feet, it would have made a larger bang on impact and would have probably bounced around. From the audio it sounds more like it was thrown from a low angle to me, maybe from one of the rooms.
Years ago while studying abroad I intended to go "vampire hunting" in Transylvania during the winter and spend the night at Poenari Castle in Romania, which is the ruins of one of Dracula's castles. I first went up during the day during open hours to get my pictures, then went back after the sun went down. I had heard that it was haunted and was intent of finding out if ghosts are real. About halfway up the winding path and 1400+ steps to get to the top, I see my name written on some rocks. It was part of a 3 word message with an explanation point on the end, and written in a language that I could not identify (and I'm pretty good with that sort of thing). My name, which is VERY uncommon, has no business being written on rocks in Transylvanian woods as I'm on my way to find some ghosts, particularly not when it appears to take the form of a warning message written for my eyes only, and especially when it somehow escaped my attention when I went up earlier during daylight hours. As is typical of situations such as these, the cold temps killed what little life was left of the battery in my camera and I could not take a picture of the message. After 15 minutes of contemplation, I returned to the hotel. Days later back in Russia I ran the message through Google translate: No results, and I used every language that uses Latin characters... even the Slavic ones.

You can burn it to scare off almost anything and will give you 2 hours of rest to think of what to do next!!! This is an old hunters survival guide. Stay safe out there.

The one thing that ALWAYS stands out to me in these places is how there’s always graffiti in these abandoned locations. Damn near every place you’ve been to, there’s graffiti everywhere. So what I wonder is what kind of person(s) are going out to these spots and doing this? What time are they going? Why do they decide to do it in places like this where nobody is really gonna see it? What’s the motivation to do it? Why pick such far away and creepy places? Things like this ring in my mind every time I watch.
I can relate to that. I ask myself the same questions. And the huge amount of graffitis of this place makes me thing that it is frequently visited or, at least, it was at some point. This is the reason i would never spend a single minute alone at night there let alone sleep. Could you imagine that you are resting in the tent, in the darkest dark, and suddently you start to hear voices coming at your spoin the middle of the night? that would freak me out for real, more than wild animals.
Coyotes are usually pretty scared of people....but in packs they get very bold and will defiantly stalk and hunt humans. Smart move getting up to the roof and barricading yourself.

When you camp someplace where wildlife may be a problem, like Coyotes, take bear spray with you. It can be used as a deterrent against Coyotes as well as bears.
A noise maker like a LOUD whistle or airhorn will help as well. If you decide to do something like this again, consider using trekking poles. They can be used to help you haze the coyotes. Make yourself sound and look bigger than you are.
You may have been camped out right near their den.

I lived in Sudbury for 6 years. Though I never did get the chance to visit this place. I can confirm that the military and police run training scenarios on site and on the grounds. You do not want to be caught on property while they are running these simulations. Keep up the exploring! This place is Burwash Prison, or Camp Bison.

I just had my own harrowing experience with coyotes camping in a WMA and it was nowhere near as scary as this. I can't imagine what this must have been like.

Make it a series!! Please bring protection with you next time! The sound of a taser could scare the animals off but usually people are what you would worry about. This was nice to watch on Halloween btw
Not sure how many people were that far out in such a remote area in freezing temps no less. But I always take bear spray and an air horn when camping in area's like this. You wouldn't believe how much and air horn can scare the F out of everything in a mile radius. I usually setup camp then give a few blasts of the air horn before making a fire.

Never had any problems with coyotes, had a pack of them come up on me sleeping in a sleeping bag in the open one night at about 1 or 2 in the morning. They just sniffed me, when I woke up it startled them and they just ran circles around me 10 or so yards off in the high grass. They ran off when I fired a round from my shotgun into the air. I built my fire back up didn't sleep the rest of the night lol. I live in Texas btw.

I was hunted by a pack of coyotes when I was 7. I don't know why my parents let me roam the woods at that age but they did. They probably would have gotten me if not for my dog fighting them off. Stinger, my pit bull saved me a bunch of times. That was one of several times I felt what it's like to potentially be dinner for something. Not a good feeling.
