I will never forget the night my son, at the time 18ish, had a last minute assignment and referred to Jehovah as his Father ….after the meeting he was called to the little back room and instructed that Jehovah was indeed NOT his Father but only Father to the 144K…this was so confusing to him & started him down a rabbit hole …of coarse we his parents assured our son that the elder was mistaken and that without question Jehovah is our Father …we asked if Jehovah is not our Father then who is? Anyway, thinking back; this was perhaps the first real shake to the brain wash….I cannot believe we allowed ourselves to be subjected to such cruelty for 32 years and that we subjected our children to such all their young lives! I pray for forgiveness and I pray that our Father and His Son Jesus help me forgive them as well 🙏

@Island Girl - I left the organization in 2006,i remember brothers referring to Jehovah as 'father' in prayers at times. Your comment make me think back and question things. Can you elaborate more on whether things have changed since the time I left? Is it actually frowned upon to refer to Jehovah as our father today? If so, things have gotten much worse in that organization that I realized.

Being raised in the " truth ", by parents who were also, the devastating emotions that came with the realization that the beliefs that my parents had instilled in me from birth, and that they continued to inculcate in me from their own sincere, dedicated beliefs, teachings that I would aggressively defend, even though I have been disfellowshiped for over 20yrs, so far, the only "healing salve" that had any positive help with those feelings, is the understanding of these scriptures and the feeling of internal peace and contentment that Actual Bible truths, give, and that I was craving for , without even realizing it. "When we pray to Jehovah, we should avoid being overly familiar." I was taken back by the organizations view that we shouldn't be overly familiar with God. Actually, I was stupefied by it. How can we feel close to Him if we aren't allowed to be "overly familiar" with Him? How do we share our problems with a stranger? I can understand respect and reverence but how do we feel deep love for God if we have to keep our distance? And where does it say this in the Bible? It says, 'Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." It sounds rather familiar to me. How do we do draw close if we have a shield of unfamiliarity between us? It doesn't make sense. As usual, you made some excellent points, Eric.

It is possible to draw close to God, while showing a respectfull familiarity in prayer, a salutary fear for His Holy Majesty, not to displease Him; and at the same time, see Him as a loving and caring heavenly Father. In fact, the apostle James says : '' Draw near to God and He will draw near to you '' ( James 4: 8 ). This verse clearly shows that He will come close to us, and therefore, we should not see Him as a stranger, for it is His will that we draw close to Him, and that He draws close to us.

Which means we have to go back to that scripture, read it in it's context, and learn the real meaning of it all.

The Watchtower spends many months to slowly introduce the following teachings to their recruits: you are not a child of God, you do not belong to Christ, do not have his spirit and he is not your mediator. The kingdom of God is closed and the New Testament was not written to you. The one hope at Ephesians 4:4-6 was a limited time offer. But if you identify the Governing Body as the sole ‘channel’ between God and mankind, make a personal dedication, get baptized in symbol of said dedication and spend your life living up to said dedication, you can be Gods ‘friend’ and be spared from Gods wrath and spend another 1000 years working out your salvation.

What a beautiful video, drawing us closer to our own Father, just as our Brother Jesus Christ taught us, in His "Our Father" prayer! An excellent point was also made at the end too; The "faithful and discreet slave" is not a man, group of men, special class of men, nor religious leaders, but just every Christian Child of God, who, moved by Holy Spirit, shares "food" with his fellow "slaves" and so each of us can play a role in providing spiritual nourishment at the proper time. Women are included in that "faithful slave" description as they prayed, prophesied, offered encouragement and support, etc. in the 1st century gatherings.
The question, "Who is the faithful slave?" is, by the way, very similar to another question, posed by the disciples in the same style, "Who is our neighbor?" Obviously "our neighbor" is not one special person or a group of people, but rather it is any person that can assist another, especially in their time of need or distress. The disdained Samaritan proved how a neighbor behaves toward his fellow man even of another nationality or race. Or Father's children are known by their love, not their shunning abilities.

Adam is considered our father as Eve was considered, "mother of all living. Jesus became our father as one whom adopted or paid price for Adam's children giving them life. Jehovah will always be heavenly father due to the fact that life comes from the father. Even Jesus addressed Jehovah as father, and rightly so.

Jesus is "a mighty god", but he is not the Almighty God.
Also this verse speaks of the Son, so the Son cannot be called God the Father, even the rules of the Trinity states this. The only way this verse can support Jesus being God Almighty, is if you support Modalism (which Trinitarians consider "heresy").
Angels, spirits and even the judges and kings of Israel throughout the Bible were called "mighty gods". The ancient word "god" in scripture did not mean what it means today.
Jesus is the everlasting "Adamic father", not God the Father. This is why Jesus is called "the last Adam", because Adam is our human forefather, our "human father", but Jesus has replaced Adam as our "fleshly father" of the new creation, but the scriptures say he is our brother when it comes to our worship of God Almighty, as we, including both Adam and Jesus, are all children of the Father God Almighty, YHWH.
“…for us there is but *one God* , the *Father* , from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus [the] Anointed, through whom all things came and through whom we exist”. - 1 Corinthians 8:6
“When Jesus had spoken these things, he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, ‘ *Father* , the hour has arrived… Now this is eternal life, that they may know *You* , the *only true God* , and Jesus [the] Anointed whom You have sent‘”. - John 17:1, 3

Some people don't play the lottery because they know the odds of winning is so slim. Playing the get to know God lottery probably just as slim . The reason I love my dad was because I could see him talk to him directly and look in to his eyes I could physically hug him. I didn't have to search for him in a complicated book that could be manipulated by anyone. The real problem with life is the pass the buck game and the fear guilt game. You do the right thing because of fear or guilt , you do right thing because you agree with the principal. If you don't have close relationship with whoever it will be shabby. And for it to be strong it needs to over lap .The strongest in the relationship should compensate for the weaker.

The evidence of history is that even if people see God they won't believe. They saw undeniable evidence of God's hand in Jesus, yet they killed him. They saw Moses split the Red Sea, but with a few weeks, they built the Golden Calf. If you look at faith in God as some sort of lottery to be won, you will never understand the reason why he requires us to put faith in the unseen.

No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.

Jesus said we can be "destroyed" in Gehenna, he didn't say we would be alive and burned forever. Gehenna was the Hebrew word for "rubbish dump", Hell is a later word borrowed from Greek religion which replaced the original word.
Revelation speaks in symbols, and it also says "death" and the "grave" will be thrown into Gehenna, which means death will be destroyed, not suffer. Also consider that death is a metaphysical construct, not a literal object that can be thrown into a literal lake of fire, meaning the fire is also metaphorical
According to Isaiah, the everlasting fire maintains a person's condition as "bones and ash", and prevents "flesh growing back" onto them, which is poetic for everlasting death, as bones without flesh cannot have life, also reflecting Adam's punishment in Genesis; "to dust you return".
This is also why the early Catholic church used to ban cremation, as they believed it would prevent a person from being resurrected on Jesus' return, on the basis of these scriptures.

Jesus's warnings are speaking of everlasting death, not suffering. Jesus never once uses the word "ever lasting suffering" when he warns about Gehenna/Hell.
It's important to recognise that, and be familiar with historical Jewish culture and theology.
Fire of hell in ancient Hebrew, in those scriptures you mention, means "burning pit of rubbish" where dead bodies were thrown, and it was used to symbolise turning to ash and never coming back. That's all it means.

Basically they are cherry picking which bits are literal and which bits are not ! Thats how I first became aware that their teaching of the 144 k was probably flawed and imaginative or even manipulated for their own criteria. Personally I have no explanation for the 144 K , but I'm sure its not about an elite mostly wealthy group lording over us and acting as mediator from the worlds richest country.. So, Hagar = Law, and Sarah = Grace...? / And if you count through history from Pentecost to present day - if only a literal 144,000 go to heaven, that would mean THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of anointed Christians fell off God's approved 'wagon' before they died so that there is even one left on earth today...or the 144,000 number was filled quickly way back when, and ALL the anointed Christians after that are mentally ill and bleep outta luck. If they INSIST it's still a literal number, then you can be SURE [per their own words] that the gov. body are indeed all mentally ill.

  • @Rupunzelsawake
    @Rupunzelsawake Před 2 lety +1

That was great reasoning against the 144,000 being a literal number. When you think about it, the belief that only 144,000 are anointed Christians has led on to the horrible jw version of armageddon. Why do I say that? Well, Rutherford introduced the other sheep doctrine when he recognised that the literal 144,000 number must surely have been filled by his time, yet, still they hadn't been taken to heaven. Why? So he reinvented the other sheep to mean a non anointed class that must yet be gathered or harvested by the anointed. What naturally follows the harvest according to Jesus? The chaff or weeds are burned...ie. armageddon. Also the goats go off into destruction, ie. Armageddon. Isn't it the case that jws used to teach only one "armageddon" at the end of the 1000 year reign and they taught that the separating and harvest took place during the 1000 year reign, not before? Now they have a pre-armageddon armageddon. Or a pre-end "end". If you count the flood in Noahs day that would make it three. Sorry...I hope I haven't been too confusing. Lol. Of course, please correct me if I'm off.

John 1:1,14: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father ), full of grace and truth."
It's difficult for those who was indoctrinated as JW to understand who Jesus is but we need to. God took the Spirit of His Word and send Him to be born as human and save us from sin and death. Jesus shares God's titles First and the Last, Alpha and Omega and others. JW fail to understand fully the role of Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and do not confess Him as such in order to be saved: Rom 10:9: "because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved".

Jesus is still Lord to non-trinitarians, but that does not mean he has to then be God. There is a difference. That's why Hebrews and Psalms both say "the LORD said to my Lord" (the accurate translation being "YHWH said to my Lord"), as this indicates "two different Lords". God is the LORD, whilst Jesus is the "one Lord" (aka one king) who is not God, but serves under the LORD/YHWH.
"…for us there is but one God , the Father , from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus [the] Anointed, through whom all things came and through whom we exist”. - 1 Corinthians 8:6
“When Jesus had spoken these things, he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, ‘ Father , the hour has arrived… Now this is eternal life, that they may know You , the only true God , and Jesus [the] Anointed whom You have sent‘”. - John 17:1, 3
"Jesus said to her: ‘...‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God .’” - John 20:17
      If you do actual research into the historical texts and the grammatic rules of ancient Greek, the translation of "a god/divine person" in John 1:1 is perfectly acceptable, and separates the Son from the Father perfectly. However, the translation of "Word was God" results in Modalism, "that the Son is the Father" (which the Trinity rejects), and it also isn't grammatically correct as it's;
"Tontheon was with logos and logos was theos"...
Which is a very similar use of grammar Paul used in Corinthians to separate Satan as the "god of this world" from God almighty in the same passage; "HoTheos of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of [the] Anointed, who is the image of TouTheou“.
Note the variables of the theos, theon and theou, this is a Greek grammar rule used to separate beings from one another to avoid confusion for the native reader. This is what Paul did with Satan and God Almighty, who are both "called God" in the same passage, and it's the same grammatic practice John does in John 1:1 to separate the Word and God Almighty.
Also, to give benefit of the doubt... even IF the text said the "Word is God" (which isn't grammatically possible anyway), that still doesn't mean Jesus is God as the Word, but it means Jesus is the "spoken agent" of God, the proximal representative of God, so Jesus 'is God' not in a literal sense, but in a representational sense. People who represent others in the Bible are often given that person's name or title in that role (it's all over the OT and NT). It's so important to be familiar with ancient Jewish theology and language in this respect.
Non-trinitarians are not exclusive to JWs and ex-JWs, it's not JW teaching, it's an ancient teaching of many historical Christians going back to the 1st century and beyond (if you read historical Christian texts). JWs just happened to pick it up along with several other groups at the time of the Restoration movement.
I have done unbiased research and study philosophically, historically and textually of the Trinity and various other Christologies (such as Modalism, Unitarianism, etc) and have argued fairly both for and against the idea of Jesus being God Almighty. I even learned Catholic theology and gained a 100% understanding of the metaphysical construct of the Trinity and the meanings of the three-fold consubstantial divine simplicity and oneness of substance.... but based on my studies, I found it all to be a false teaching.
You can read my articles on my site if genuinely interested (link on my channel page). Of course, I don't judge people who believe in the Trinity, it's their choice to believe what the correct interpretation of scripture is, we all answer to Jesus our judge individually at the end of the day. However, I must strongly attest, sticking to non-trinitarianism, has nothing to do with being "stuck in indoctrination", such a remark is quite offensive, ignorant and dismissive of the actual authentic arguments that can be attested against the Trinity.
Using the phrase "it's a JW teaching so it's wrong" is baseless, and if anything 'that' is the real symptom of not being able to let go of indoctrination, black and white thinking.

@@ProselyteofYah Yes, I agree with Eric, well said, Proselytiser of Yah! I also find that trinitarians cannot think originally, cannot reason from the scriptures without reading from a script. It is wholly unimaginative to follow a theology which has no logical basis. The best they can often do, it seems, is to engage in ad hominem attacks.

God doesn't tell us. There are many logistical questions concerning our salvation that leave our head spinning if we try to work them out ourselves, but our Father has not revealed these things to us. He wants us to have faith in him and trust that he has it all well in hand.

There are fathers, then there are fathers. My husbands father was an overly strict disciplinarian who left my husband with very low self esteem . He really had no affection for his father. He feared him more than anything even though he did respect him . It's easy to see why some people would find difficulty accepting that Jesus' father , whom, we are told, Jesus emulated perfectly, is the same as Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews/Jews. When you read about the Hebrew God it is really hard to feel closeness, affection or familial love for him. He is more like the kind of father that "exasperates his children"..one that you have to walk on eggshells around because you never know what kind of a mood he's in and who you can't predict because what he says and how he acts seems illogical and doesn't make sense (from a strategic or human standpoint..lol) But if you can feel familial closeness to someone like that, well, all power to you! I would call it an abusive relationship myself.

But it was the Hebrew God, Yahweh, who sent his Son, Yeshua (Jesus) to die for us. It was the Hebrew God who put up with the stubborn, rebellious, and faithless Israelites for 1,600 years before finally eradicating the nation. And it is Jesus who will destroy the wicked. Read the account of the 7 congregations in Revelation as evidence. Yahweh is kind to those who are motivated by true love, but he does not tolerate hatred toward one's fellow human.

The angels have both an attitude of deep respect and are overly familiar. In 1 Kings 21, Jehovah was sitting on his throne and looked to the left and right as he conferred with the angels, and asked them who wanted to fool Ahab. One of the spirits came forward and said, "I will" and Jehovah even asked him how, what is your game plan so to speak. The angels don't know God as a distant king. Maybe they were laughing because we know Jehovah invented laughed in both humans and animals.
The scriptures say to pray without let up....What are you going to be praying about without let up if you are not overly familiar? What child asks for an egg and a father gives him as serpent? A child wouldn't as an intimidating distant father for an egg at all. Showing to view Jehovah as a father saying how much more will God give those give holy spirit to those asking. I had an old cassette tape that was Dan Sidekicks talk called Don't Lose Heart. He said not to give "sweetie sweetie prayers" ....He used the scripture in 2 Kings 13:18 to say just that, get overly familiar. Elisha was told to shoot the arrows on the ground and he stopped after three and Jehovah said you should have shot them 5 or 6 times and but you gave up. Sidlik said when you pray tell God how you REALLY feel, beat the walls, tell him what you feel like on the inside, be real with God and he will be real with you.
Once I told a "sister" of a prayer that I know Jehovah answered that was different than WT. She said why would Jehovah tell you and not the "faithful and discreet slave" and 8 million. I said to myself afterward, why would God give them the answer to my prayer? Maybe it wasn't their prayer. :)

That's hilarous. Maybe that will be Watchtower's new New Light. They will go on a talent hunt to find 24 elders for those positions before the throne. They will take their pictures and put them online, right along with the photo of the latest graduating Gilead class. Also, those 24 elders will be made legally responsible for everything Watchtower does, while the GB will continue to make and enforce the organizational rules. The names and contact information of the 24 elders will be distributed to every prosecuting attorney so those attorneys will know where to send the subpoenas.
