    William, I'm new to turning & wanted to convert my scrapers to negative rake. Your instructions are the clearest & easy to follow I have seen. Now I need to shovel a path through the snow to my shop where I will spend the rest of the day turning.

    Is a skew considered negative rake because it has a bevel on both sides?

      Technically, Yes, though I have not had good results using a skew this way. BTW, a parting tool is also a type of skew.

    What grit are you using here?

      It's a 180, but a lower grit would probably be better. Maybe 80.
