Your poetry was so bad,
it took a lot to not laugh.
You said that I showed you the light,
but all it did,
in the end,
was make the dark feel
darker than before.
Your dad keeps his sleeves down

extra thick for a reason.
When I tell you, you were born
and you are here for a reason,
you are not convinced the reason
is a good one.
While you're going to sleep
your mind keeps you awake,
and it makes your heart beat
fast and loud.
There's nothing you can do,
but the only thing you found:
playing Slayer at full volume helps
to drown it out.

This song comes from around the time when I knew Lucy. We were both members of the same evangelical theatre group for teens. I was waiting/hoping she would write something about this time in her life lol!

@@zainab5017 Surreal lol! Lucy I always knew was talented, but I didn't know she would end up a famous indie musician one day lol. Someday she will be playing on the mainstream radio stations I'm sure. I can't believe 15 years ago I was sitting across from her in the green room in-between scenes lol. She was super into Christianity at the time and I wasn't a believer at the time... Now we have flipped. I believe now and she doesn't anymore.

Favorite song on the album. I was also raised in a super Christian household and I saw (and sadly relate to) so many of the things Lucy describes here, plus it's just straight ear candy.

That feeling when it's the Summer of '07 and you're initially blown away by the wide variety and selection your new gentrified downtown mall offers, but then you realize they don't have any churro carts anywhere so you spend the rest of the day wandering around the shops hungry and tired
i keep coming back to this song over and over. it wasn’t slayer for me but the sounds of not approved music really did soothe the anxiety of wanting to leave religion as a teenager

Not Passport in particular, but the general sentiment of your comment, yes. I've listened to this song multiple times in the last few days. It's such a strange experience. On one hand it all feels so familiar but on the other hand it feels like it all happened to a different person a lifetime ago. In combination these provide a strange place to exist cognitively.

the best to this song reminds me a lot of karma police by radio head i love thus so much it’s like so calm but sad
to me this music video and the music itself reflects this feeling of having something that you were told you wanted like going to heaven in this case. but whatever you do to get there will never be enough. you start to see this dream disappear like it never existed. at first you blame yourself but then you start to realize this wasnt even something you wanted. none of it you wanted. but now your partner or friend is also dealing with this and you feel like you cant leave them behind in this struggle even though you were along. but you end up along in your journey anyway. surrounded by darkness but this time it is comforting.
