- I wanted to finally learn to draw pretty faces, so I sat down and did six days (non consecutively, I need rest ofc) of studies to learn how. I'm surprised at how well this training regime went, so I decided to share it!
The details to recreate my pencil and brush for free is also provided in the Gumroad links. But you can also buy it if you want to support my channel!

I'm 32 years old... due to certain personal issues, I got a suggestion by my therapist... the idea was to pick an activity I've never done before, hopefully something that appeals to creativity. Well, I chose drawing. It's been 3 amazing weeks! Just found out about your channel and will definetely take a look at all your videos!
Have fun!
I’m 26 and I’m also 3 weeks in! Keep it up comrade ☺️ enjoy
art is so awesome. art has always been an inclination of mine. but it’s some much more awesome when someone starts trying it later down the road. your an artist now! enjoy your journey!!
Soon to be 26 later this year, I've been drawing a bit every day for 62 days so far. And I've been enjoying the journey so far!
As someone who's been drawing for 7 years, youre gonna love it!
I am absolutely guilty of delaying face studies. I think this is the sign I should stop running from my responsibilities. Thanks Pikat, wish me luck.
Tell me about it 💀
I’m scared of the failure I will witness from my own hands
Good luck!!
@@Aw_Tizzy If you recognize that you've failed, it means you know where you can improve and that isn't a bad thing

"I thought I wasn't able to draw detailed art. Turns out, I just never really tried." ( 12:06 )
That is probably one my favorite things to experience when drawing, or doing anything in life, tbh. I definitely wanna seek that experience more often. It can be easy to get discouraged, especially if you're struggling to define success with your art, but I think it can be so valuable to aim for a positive experience like that.
I agree! also I know this may seem random, but I felt lead to give you the gospel. Experiencing the love of God is definitely a positive experience!
You know your soul can be saved and you can spend eternity with a loving God? You just need to repent and believe the gospel! Jesus died for our sins and rose 3 days later so we could be forgiven of our sins and be gifted with everlasting life. Put your faith In Jesus and follow him. Life is short, please make the right choice today. He's waiting for you and he wants to know you.
@@xdmomentum8346 Most people bringing up God in the comments do so in a way where it seems entirely irrelevant to the topic at hand, so I'm a little glad at least to know where you're coming from here, but, even then, what you mention isn't exactly new to me, and I don't believe my soul is in need of saving. Still, I'm sure you only mean well, and I can respect that.
@@thederpydude2088 Thanks for being respectful, but you really should consider it. We have all sinned and we are all in need of saving. Try praying to Jesus that he shows himself to you. One day it will unfortunately be too late to reconsider your choices. But thanks again for being kind and I'll be praying for you 🙏

"Appealing faces is not the same as conventionally attractive faces" !!!! Thank you!! As a character designer and illustrator, I always stress this to people wanting to learn. That appealing is not always the same as attractive, and that learning how to draw different facial features can really broaden your understanding of facial structure!
One thing I have found from drawing not only from other artists, but from portraits as well is that you will make PERMANENT progress! It might just be one thing or two at the beginning, but as you become more advanced, you'll learn quicker and more. I have found that taking certain elements from the artists you like is a way to boost and build your own style!
this really helped
Pikat, I can't explain why, but your videos are one of my biggest sources of motivation when it comes to doing art. It's something about the way you're so comfortable showing all your mistakes and how you go about fixing them, along with your very positive outlook that reminds me that we all start somewhere and to be easier on myself. Thank you so much and never change.
Same
same! she's so encouraging and makes all this stuff feel attainable
the eye line trick actually saved me
That line art looks professional, there's just something so satisfying about it, reminds me of disney line art as a kid and certain concept arts.
It’s the flow, composition, shapes, forms an line confidence. Sinix has a full playlist dedicated to line and forms quality btw I think it’s called “Design Theory: shapes that appeal”
@@diysilmecla7438 Interesting, thanks for the suggestion!
I instantly recognized the "mysterious frogs" art, I love her art so much!

why is my heart pumping from watching an art tutorial
I love that you always go out of your way to add your eyebags while still maintaining AND encouraging such a good mindset and outlook on art. It couldn't be more relatable, and I enjoy your videos so much.
The neat thing about drawing from real reference is that you can pick out appealing features from a photo that you would never imagine without it.
Like, maybe this guy has a really nice chin! Maybe that girl's shoulders are really cute! Maybe that old man's wrinkly forehead makes him look really cool! Then you come up with your own solution to represent those features using lines on a canvas.
Fear isn’t just the practice. Its how I constantly feel I have to catch up and BE something of worth. So I feel I have to practice loads and be good NOW which makes the process hella worse.
Its when I am not wholly fearful of studying and can just get lost in making something with what I’ve learned with no interruptions that I am in my element. When I’m not thinking about goals or being somewhere is when I ironically do my best.
Also just studying one thing until I feel comfortable. Not every fundamental and every anatomical structure at once.
You will eventually be good. You don’t have to be good rn. With time and practice you’ll do good
I’m gonna be completely honest, no matter which channels I watched, I always found that art tips were so inaccessible because they give very broad advice. But I’m a huge fan of your videos because they show the process of improvement and they give the whole journey, not just the high points. Best art channel!
Here are a couple things I've learned on what can make faces more appealing: (note: appeal can vary from person to person. I'm sharing what I've learned.)
1. Analyze the space between each section of the face (hairline to brow, brow to nose, nose to chin). I learned the "cat theory" from Zeronis in his Class 101 class where he highlighted the proportions of a cat (large forehead to nose area, smaller nose to chin) and applied it to a human face. It resulted in a more appealing face.
2. Analyze the size of the facial features relative to each other. For example, in anime, the eyes are LARGE and the rest of the facial features are small. In more realistic faces, the facial features are pretty much the same size.
3. Analyze the ways facial features are simplified. I don't know what it is, but simplifying things just has a certain appeal to it. When looking at different styles, the more realistic the subject, the more information is indicated such as structure, form, perspective, details, etc. For more stylized work, it's often a lot simpler and shape design driven.
I hope this helps! 😄
I hope i did not sound weird but i love the way pikat speaks, she sounds really sweet
She has such a positive energy. I find her videos very relaxing
the only people who will think you sound weird are people without brains
We need Pikat drawing ASMR 🙏
My ass never actually properly studied anatomy out of stubbornness, making it so I instead would mostly only draw sonic stuff
which my shading, and artistic eye/observation skills improved, I'm definitely struggling with perspective and intricate anatomy
getting to watch your video made me think about what I could do to improve a lot so I gotta thank you for it!
I like how this video shows that getting good is about practice and study not just YT art magic tricks
Once again in my artist path, i am humbled by how much i need to learn. I shall bend down to the fundamentals once again
You’ve inspired me to also revamp my methods. Mine are a constant “eh, it’s good enough” or “I’ve seen worse and done worse so it should be fine”. Thanks for the push and the info. Your art is truly very pleasant to just stare at for a while.

There is still so much I have to learn 😧 recently I've been learning a lot of new things and it's really rewarding to see the improvement in my art but there are so many things I don't understand yet😭😆
Your only hope now is Pikat's bootcamp

I am so happy that you showed learning by copying the piece and trying to understand what works and why and then trying to apply it to your own style. I've heard more than once that copying is never okay, even if you're learning, because you must do everything from scratch and you must be original. Only recently I started my own studies by trying to first copy and then imitate some artstyles and now I'm much happier with my own drawings...
I am an 12 year old artist about to turn 13, and the skull thing actually helped me a TON, simplified heads now make so much sense in my head that I was like, in disbelief, staring at the model on the screen as everything clicked lol. But thanks for the tip !
The thing I find most intimidating about imagining how an eye looks from the side is that the front part of the eye (I don’t know what it’s called, the lens?) is totally transparent. Most people don’t draw that part, but when they do, it looks amazing
You're right to be proud, this is amazing very wholesome to see your progress, as someone who is just getting back into drawing i appreciate the insight on your style analysis immensly. 😊
I really really love that you are also learning alongside us. the insight you offer as someone also trying to get some of these concepts down and sharing them with us helps so much thank you!
This is truly inspiring stuff, I never realized just how many rules and fundamentals there were to character drawing that made the characters so appealing. I'll have to apply this lessons to my work.
Thanks Pikat! It's really fun watching you grow as an artist and your guides are always helpful!
look at that transformation! in just a week, too! you started this challenge to improve the way you draw faces, but ended up also improving your rendering style as well!
this is a great video, breaking down the processes of practice and the reasons for doing so whilst providing resources, the best art youtuber ive seen in my life so far. good job
You’re quickly becoming my favorite art channel. Practical, accessible, and inspiring! Keep up the great work!
As someone who had a strong burn out from illustrating in general, I appreciate so so so much you sharing your learning process. It's not only motivating but also a learning experience! I just went to follow the artists you mentioned in here and I got a lot of practice to do!
Amazing progress btw, keep it up!
The progress you made is amazing. Great job! + Your videos are never boring and educative, love it!
Excellent video on how you analyzed and studied on drawing faces, Pikat! It's not only a upgrade, but a amazing talent on how fast you were able to pick it up too!
I had a similar "bootcamp" planned for myself this week. I took notes from your video to add to my own! Thank you, it feels really good to know artists I admire are doing the same things!
Dear Pikat. You prolly won’t see this and this is probably the same for many other people, but u got me into art, and you made (I cannot express this enough) everything so much easier. Thank you and love from Manila Philippines ❤❤
I love the way you did the animation when you were blushing and the top of your hair tips formed a heart that was really dope!
Your videos make me understand why i love art, drawing and learning so much 💕❤️ I'll also try my best into understanding my favorite artist's process! Thanks Pikat!
Pikat, somehow you always become my motivation booster. Whenever I feel down about my lackluster studies, I see your videos and I feel somehow super motivated. I thank you heavily for recommending the Michael Hampton gesture book. It's a lifesavor when it comes to knowing what to study. I'm a slow learner, but I think I'm getting my big rush in having fun in art again. Thank You so much!
I've been loving these videos. The content is so relatable. (the bloopers at the end are fun)
I genuinely love this thank you so much for making these videos I can’t stop watching them
Pikat, thank you~ ❤ your videos are entertaining, informative, and very approachable. I love them!
i just found u in my fyp and i gotta say i love ur way of making videos and watching u is so fun and educational
Holy hell pikat you're on my youtube recommended page now I'm proud of how far you've come since I first found you!!!
i feel called out in this video. My art is truly like "fake it till u make it" without actual knowledge of anatomy..... thank you for addressing this
Wow this made feel so motivated to study! I've been wanting to experiment with my style lately but wasn't sure how to go about it. I also really appreciate your view on learning, it's helped me not be so hard on myself when I'm not good right away.
seeing your dedication to studying and improving has inspired me to do the same. love your streams, keep up the awesome work :)
Is shocking how good the final artwork is
Thank you pikat and the mysterious frog for bringing us an amazing videos!
Thank you so much for this video! I've had the same issues myself and I have no excuses aside from being too lazy to start studying faces. So thank you for putting down a base line and pointers for how to start!
Wait, wha? Painting shadows with *hard light* layer??? Holy moly this changes everything
Blending shadows and lights suddenly becomes so easy to control, I can't believe I didn't do this earlier! The multiply for shadows method was something I stuck with for so long!
I have no idea how Pikat does the shadow but its so satisfying to watch
Never knew there's a lot that goes in drawing faces. I just been winging it for a while. Thanks for making this how to guide. This going to help me making new choices in my art projects.
Found this today while I've been trying to get back into art. I felt pretty inspired by the end to try some new stuff. I immediately used Frog's tip about the guidelines for the eyes and wow it sure made a difference! Thanks for making this!
Pigeon has always been my favourite internet artist for a reason
this is inspiring!! thank you for sharing what you've learned
Thank you for giving us the asaro head and 3d skull reference!!! ive been looking for this for months!!
It's funny to see this pop up in my feed. I recently noted in my sketchbook about how it looked like I wasn't drawing the eyes in perspective too. Glad to see it worked wonders for you!
Ong so happy to see this 82pigeon is literally my favorite all time artist!
I'm so glad you made this video and linked the model source you used. I have been struggling with getting angles right for ages, but I never had a good source for references at different angles which weren't other people's drawings, and I don't want to use their work and end up adopting others' mistakes
im still learning shape altering and i came across this video,
now with the link u put in ur desc i can use the 3d models and as such for it!
i thank you for helping us out aswell as doing it for ur self!!!
have a good night a day!
Just wanted to say I LOVE the art style and your oc such a cool character design
I've started drawing yesterday. I found your youtube channel today, i love it !
I am an animation major and I just finished working on my Sophomore film. The biggest critique, and one that I have received consistently, is that I need to work on my facial anatomy. This video will work wonders! Thanks a ton for putting the time into making such a useful video. It’s safe to say you have a new subscriber!
I cant wait to see this, all of rhis advice is so good!!!
absolutely love your stuff. so cool of the frog person to take the time to help you out!
That improvement is insane! It made realize that I should do master studies myself
omg i love the way you drew the eyes
I started watching your videos a few weeks ago, I didn't watch this whole video yet but I subscribed just now. by the way I really love your persona it's actually really unique and adorable
edit: you're one of the fewer channels that actually give sorta "advanced" tutorials and not just stuff for beginners
I'm so delighted my recommended brought me here! I've been doing a lot of studying recently, and this wasn't something I'd ever been taught in school! I've done all kinds of 3d studies but I just realized I'd never grasped fundamentals. I dunno what it was but *THIS* video made me realize I've been missing out!!

This was wonderful, thank you for sharing.
This is so inspiring, thank you so much for making this video!
Well said 👍 thank you for the informative and honest video. Best of luck on your journey of self-improvement.

First video. Loved the video and ESPECIALLY love your character model!!!! :D
Amazing vid great job on explaining how you improve your process.
Your improvement is astounding! I hope I can become as good as you someday, I'm still a learning artist and right now I'm really focusing on improving my anatomy and proportions, lineart, etc. And by watching this video, I gained a bit of knowledge about faces too! Well, I hope I can apply this to my style :). Really nice video.

Not gonna lie, watching you learn from my OSHI (82PIGEON), I now learned the mistakes I was making while trying to incorporate their shading and coloring process into my art style (I even looked at her livestreams and my art STILL looked like crap ;-;) thank you so so much for this and your other videos! Your helping me become better every day 😊
Oh wow. This is amazing!
