  • Liu Ling Ying grew up in Kolkata, immersed in both Indian and Chinese cultures. The 75-year-old beautician's father was one of thousands of Chinese emigres to the west Indian port city in the mid 20th century. But times are changing -- and so is her family.

Indian govt took the Indian Chinese to Rajasthan and interned them for a year in 1962.
When they were released, and came back to Kolkata, their properties were stolen/taken by Kolkatans.
They were rendered homeless, and many of them then migrated out of India.

@@johnlogan4303 . Thank you for an honest history, and not lying propaganda, like many news media today. As a 70 years old person, and follower of Christ, I had read this story that you write in this comment over 30+ years ago as I was doing my research at a university library on material about the Sino-Indian War of 1962. Despite the geopolitical tensions since the late 20th century, Chinese and Indians have been trading for more than 2000 years, and have much more in common in terms of culture (Buddhism/ vedic philosophy), industrious nature, self-preservation attitude, family-oriented spirit etc etc.
Since the late 1990s, China started to rapidly industrialize, grow wealthy and now looks ever more modern and powerful than ever. India is far behind and will be, thanks to the multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious and multi-caste divisions amongst the people.
