- An early morning visit to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway on Thursday 31st May 2018 to see LNER A4-class 4-6-2 No.4498 "Sir Nigel Gresley" being prepared by its driver for a day's work during the Half-Term week.
This video features from the lighting of the fire, cleaning and lubrication to collecting coal, water and coaches before setting out on the first train of the day.
There's something so relaxing about watching videos like this.
True
My God, I think this is the ultimate model train I have ever seen.
Well it ain’t a model more like a ultimate investment.
lol didnt expect to see you here
Seeing you is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Didn't expect to see you here.
Omg
Quite satisifying and relaxing to watch a group of enthusiasts quietly getting on doing what they do best...until @ 10:05 !!
How did you say that was so embarrassing but!!!!!✌️⭐😁
I love how the model A-4 sounds just like a full-size engine, and so do the little passenger cars as they roll by.
it is a steam engine, just a tiny one.
School break time in 70's i would go sometimes to library. On the shelf was a book on steam locos and details how they worked. I then realised the book was aimed at loco model builders (6 inch wheel castings gave it away). Was amazed to think people would build such. Back then many men worked in machine shops and building a live steam loco a hobby in the garden shed.
Nice to see all the tender love and care that is put into prepping these mini trains for service. :D
A lot of hard, dirty and rewarding work at the end of it.
i still cant believe that this was filmed at a place that ive been to uncountable times. the great thing about this place is that you can just drive in, park, buy a ticket and get on a train. its completely open to the public. and its a great area for walking as well.
So much work involved in getting this up and running, but what a beautiful engine!
Wowie! That one's a beauty
A very well made video and engine. No music, long shots & well composed 15 minutes of pure pleasure. Thanks!
She's a beauty ! Amazing locomotive
This was truly an engrossing awesome video, and I must thank CZcams for recommending it to me from Charlie Bishop's Chadwick Model Railway channel.
Man, that A4 class looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!
Doesn’t it
Its realistically operated like a real steam
It's great people with such great hobbies. Greetings from the Westerwald, to the Great Britain 👍
Extraordinary Locomotive!
What a splendid engine!
Awesome video! There needs to be more of these start up videos out there!
Would love to have seen more of it running. Hard to call it a model being so large. Truly beautiful to watch though.
Well done.
Its just amazing the Skill, Talent , Brains and passionate dedication & drive for perfection some individuals posses .
Very good video I enjoyed watching this.
Spencer: Sir Nigel.... You looks Small
Judy: I know
Nick: Me Too
Or s they were called in the old Thomas stories, "vera wee engines!"
Love the sound of steam engine...
That's a beautiful engine
That boy is a legend stem engine
Yeah I've heard that and use it in my loco . I think they like to recreate the real experience!
One thing about the British and British engineers. Always polishing, full size or scale. Beautiful.
What a beautiful machine
Beautiful model. Can't imagine the work that went into building it. Must have been thousands of hours.
Make that years
@@paddydu5113 Thousands of years lol
@@LukeAlfordUKsteam I was there 3000 years ago...
Thousands of hours and tens of thousands of pounds. A ready made small live steam gauge 1 will cost over £10k.
Got to love the British weather..
GREAT WORK
Wow! Excellent.. Love from India...
beautiful locomotive!!
Finest of the finest, now we need a large german 05-001 streamline scale modell :-)
This is so cute I would love to ride on that lil train .I've never rode on any train but I'd love to though .
Great ,nice,super work 👍👍👍😉🇨🇿🍀🍀🍀🍀
Beautiful
Those look and sound nice! :)
Nice video .Enjoy it thanks
Used to go there all the time when I was younger
why do i like these so much?
Gota love the rain!
I would love to see an a4 built on the RHDR... They are so pretty
يبتيملىىز😇😇😇💣
At 3:50 mark , reminds me of my little stationary engine when I was a kid . Esbit fuel tablets 😉
HOPE THE ENGINEER STAYS WARM WITH THE FIREBOX LOOKS LIKE A COLD DRIZZLING DAY
A mini A4! So cute!
This model reminds me of Spencer a lot.
Imagine if this little fella here met the real Sir Nigel Grestley..... It would be like Typhoon meeting the Flying Scotsman
nice hard work
Great train video question what type of wood were being used to fire up the steam locomotive?
I was at Woking station yesterday and an EWS diesel hauler came past so I barely looked up....but it was pulling ‘Union of South Africa’, another A4 up towards Waterloo. It wasn’t moving quickly but still too quick for me to get my camera out, darn it.
Thanks for the reply.. so it's normal to have blue smoke if using steam coal like Welsh steam or Russian coal ?
J7uiuìui7uu77uuuu
This is so cool one should have in backyard to make children'happy....
I♥️it stuff from gone era ...it has its oun charm and we know how far we came in development..these were the starters
You can get smaller 3 inch gauge trains for gardens
Those folk are GIANTS -I would like to know from whence they obtain giant screwdrivers and inflammable cheese though.Amazing dedication.
The mallard. A beautiful train
ur not wrong, it is beautiful, but its a Sir Nigel Gresley, not the Mallard, however they are both A4's
3 arelsdale engines came to mind
Que hermosuraaa
What happened to the miniature railway at South Sea Castle. Did any of these locomotives come from there?
Thank you
Great looking layout! What scale is this system? 1/4 scale?
Awwww what a cute baby
Yes but what type ? Mixed ?
we need more footage of the train rolling around the track
Such a soft exhaust, I can't tell whether this model is just a two cylinder loco or a three cylinder one.
A4's are 3 cylinders
@@gerrard1144, we know. It's the model I'm referring to !
She is 3 cylinder
Hi I just wanted to say that I love steam engines and I happen to live on the NYMR home do Sir Nigel Gressley (but currently it’s being repaired in the NRM)
I mean it guys if you ever need help there, im gonna by myself a ticket and speed to you and help you out as best as I can, thats how much of an train fan I am, from kindergarten until now
I love the bit where the blowing the whistle and someone's says "its to noisy!" Then someone else Saye "Shut up"
It's so cute
Just another rainy day in England
I live about a mile from Lakeside, it's a fun place to go.
I have been once and love it
FABULOUS, where are you that I come to find you .... A question Locomotives are a 5 scale ...... What size of track do you have?
The train look coool😮
How do you initially get the draft in the firebox/boiler?
10:04. Too noisy!
10:07. *Immediately does it again*
Totally me. XD
Read less is the truth
from dark and cold to take off ...
What a beautiful model of a lovely engine.
Mallard will always be amazing in any size
That's not Mallard, that's Sir Nigel Gresley
Why is there nothing like this up Newcastle area yes beamish had like couple steamy things but nothing as cool as this I need this in my life!!!!!!
Put in planning permission and become a founder of a model engineering society
Oh! The industrious minature British Imperium!
Can they repaint it to BR blue
that's amazing that you should go to British got talent and show it that is very amazing I want to give you credit that's amazing I want you to keep that up. 🤩🤩😊
Magnificent model. I may have missed it but what gauge is it?
I believe it's 7 inch gauge, also known as miniature gauge.
So its because anthracite gives a more blue colour ?
what gauge and scale is that, such a beautiful locomotive
2:43 wow spencer in BLUE
That engine is based on the A4 class, which is the same kind of locomotive Spencer is. The fastest of the steam locomotives, the Mallard, is a part of that class.
Nah its spencers lucky brother in the real world spencer was scrapped he was the silver link a4 class locomotive
@@jezryllevan Spencer it's A4.0
adding an removable Extension pipe of about 4-5 feet will keep the smoke and ashes running into the drivers eyes and lungs.
Or just have the engine larger, so the cab covers the driver
Or just wear goggles
I remember my first time using a lighter too.

cool!
To be honest, I would work there, evem without pay. I would even pay money to work there
Yey
Me too
This is a volunteer basis. You dont get paid regardless
What does your missus do while you polish the brass and play train drivers................
Such a cool lokomotive, but i would like to put the tender closer to the front and the seat instead a little bit to the back, so that you can sitt normally.😏🤜🏻
Is this by any chance the lovely engine that used to run on Christchurch Quay years ago. I have a photo taken in 1956 of an identical engine .
Wow! So that’s how they keep the old girl in tip top order! They use 50 foot high giant engineers! 🥴 And did you see the size of that whopping lawn mower? why it’s as high as a house!🥴🤪
*DONALD TRUMP WANTS TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION*
Stop you’re not funny

@@ThomasAndSkye Eh! ????
I remember when I was around 4 years old I was crying because I learned you couldn’t buy one of these 😂
you can buy it :;)
but it will be more expensive then a car
@@HappyDude1 cost you about half a million.
You can buy them they just cost more than a car 😂
2:36 does things to me 😍😍😍
😂
The inside looks just as bad as a real engine!
The exterior itself - it's quite badass!
What?
I was hoping it was going to Belch smoke like one of those really old school locomotives
Robert Taylor that’s only if they’ve put to much coal in and was virtually exclusivel to American loco because all USA thought of them was as a work horse so they weren’t treated correctly
Belching black smoke there’s to much coal no smoke not enough thick wight and creamy plums just right
I hope you don't try going 126mph on that locomotive! Also is that anthracite coal or another kind?
I dont know how this is miniture, that train is half my height
Wonder how much it weighs ?
