This is why some athletes do well when they move into creative fields post career, they realise improvement is just about consistent reps and honest feedback, both internal and external.
In reference to the void, the benefit of pursuing an art of some kind is that the void can never be filled. You can always put something out and find new ways to progress your craft. In competition you have to find people to beat, but in art the only hurdle is yourself and seeing how far you can go.

Obsess about the consistency of doing over the output. That's my new motto. I loved the book "the Practice" and created a checklist of points from the book to remember daily and it helps. Everybody's list may be different depending on what you've already integrated into your behaviors. SG changed how I view content creation forever.
I'm all for encouraging, and Seth is a marketing / branding Guru. That said, I get that no one owes you anything, but how does one actually get people like Seth Godin and Jordan Harbinger to be a fan of the creative works you do? I would like to know the answer to that one! If I could choose my 1000 true fans, you guys would definitely be on that list! :)
@@JordanHarbingerShow well here's a question. Does it matter if I say anything to anyone about your show, or does that not matter at all? Just like Seth G, why would he ask artist Peter Gabriel for his support and shout out, it lends an element of credibility to an artist and creative producer. After watching some of your videos and for the last 5 years or so I have been taking in knowledge from Seth G, and people like Bryan from Behind the Brand about marketing and branding. I feel ultimately it would align me and my creative works with like minded individuals. This is why it matters. Will it make me successful? or Will I feel better or approved regarding my music and art, that really doesn't apply. I've already had success and I love the music I create and so do many others. But if we want to talk about the 1000 Fan's concept, which I've been aware of for years like when it was republished on Ari's take, and/or CD Baby's DIY platform. I think it is important to gather your right 1000 fans. (or 10,000 fans) Because those are the core people who will help you to make a greater impact.
So, "writer's block," yes and no. Just so you know where I'm coming from, I have an MFA from Iowa where I was the Truman Capote fellow, I've written and published 40 or more books, and I've been on the USA today best seller list I think nine times. (Squishy numbers because after a while I stopped checking and lost count.) Writer's block can absolutely happen. The real questions are does it happen to you and when and how? For all the writers here who just listened to Seth and freaked out, I highly recommend Becca Syme's QuitCast here on youtube. However, Godin makes an important point. When he's talking about how Asimov didn't have writer's block, Asimov had six typewriters set up in his writing room. He would write on one manuscript for a while, and then when the words weren't flowing there anymore, he would move to a different typewriter with a different manuscript, which was something he felt he could work on. Asimov just never had six cases of writer's block at the same time. For example, I spent the last 3 days working on a particular scene. Most of those days, I wrote fewer than a thousand words, which is terrible for me. It's not only a very low amount of production, but it upsets me and I don't like it. However, the characterization and plot of this scene were not crystallizing for me. It just required time. it required sitting with the manuscript, coming up with ideas, trying them, and discarding them for 3 days. Also, just to be clear, this is really rare for me. I haven't had to do this for years. Unfortunately, this book needs to be at the audiobook narrator on Monday and this was the last major setpiece of the book, so I didn't have the luxury of going off to work on a different part of the book or a different piece of writing, which is my usual way of dealing with a big part that I don't understand yet. I did write a newsletter and two blog posts during this time, but those didn't move me forward on the manuscript. So, when Seth says that writer's block isn't real, that needs to be qualified. Yes, you are not entirely blocked from all writing like some sort of plug in between your brain and your fingertips or mouth, depending on whether you type or dictate. But sometimes, especially in fiction, the threads of the story have not come together and you don't understand the pattern of the piece and the characters' souls yet. Just typing something or anything in there and then leaving it is an excellent way to derail your manuscript and have a failed novel.
This came up at a good time for me. I am doing the kind of creative work where there is a lot of "you don't know what you are doing" and this interview helps a lot.

I didn't discover them til after they made "Stop Making Sense."

Why bash this Star Wars actor for what he said he felt? Probably an offhand comment that has now been dissected to smitherenes. When an actor says 'that's me up there' , that is inherently true. It is their body, and their talent, their interpretation , and the acting is a product of their (real) life's work. Same as say an olympic diver: if he does a bellyflop , you're not gonna say 'crappy dive , but you're awesome.'.And then the diver walks off feeling great? No, they feel horrible. Because that dive was the product of years of effort and now. it's resulted in a literal flop. So self-identity will take a hit. These things are interwoven.

Is there a way we can get the wooden blocks with the quotes he created?
💘
Yes, exactly this. “That’s me up there” doesn’t mean he thinks he is the character; it means his effort and skill are up there on display.
Hey Jordan! From fellow wolverine, keep doing what you are doing and please don’t succumb to the temptation of selling cotton candy and tobacco to us, imo, you’re bringing great valuable stuff ! 😉👍👍 (tbh, I’ve never watched a single episode of the jersey shore and am not planning to haha)
Hah thank you! How’d you discover the show?
more than a year later, it’s hard to tell, but most probably one of YT channels like Tom Bilyeu or scribd podcasts when I was searching for a book…
…but mostly what caught my eye was the fact that I saw someone I could identify with to a painfully close degree haha… I also speak 5 languages, and got into the type of higher education that I wanted through a bit of networking (I wasn’t aware of the concept at the time) thanks to one of my high school professors and later felt like an impostor because of it 😅
Ha makes sense. FYI most episodes are in The Jordan Harbinger Show podcast feed. I don’t post episodes on CZcams anymore.
