  • Sometimes the best hikes are close to home! This week I highlight the Visher ferry preserve that is not very far from where I live. It truly is a walk-through history as you can see were old settlements were in addition to the 1825 in 1840 Erie Canal.it’s filled with wildlife and plant life and it never disappoints!

    *Please note*
the canal you see in the beginning is the 1840 canal/widened canal. Most won’t notice-some will 😂

Finding historical buildings is a lot of fun. I'm just a huge history nerd.

I wasn’t until I got older and became part of history 😂
I really enjoy learning about history now though. I’m more like a closet history nerd 😂

Hiking through history have been some of my favorite hikes. Ghost towns and abandoned railroad grades in Colorado especially. I love it!

That is awesome! We don't have as many cool abandoned areas but they do exist. Ive. been dying to check out the abandoned PA turnpike too! I bet CO has some epic ghost towns and abandoned spots. The closest Ive come is Independence CO. I walked around those abandoned buildings and there were some people there to ask questions from too!

@@UnlikelyHiker And finding old Civilian Conservation Corps stuff on trail from the 1930’s is pretty cool too.

Thanks for letting me know about those trails, I'm getting tired of the Cohoes bike path😉. I looked on Google earth and found one of the trail heads. I'll go on my next day off. I enjoyed the video thanks. The disturbance in the water may have been some Musk Rats, there are a lot of them in that area.

I hope you enjoy! I like the Clutes dry doc parking lot and the Ferry Rd parking lot the best, but you can't really go wrong there!
My hunting/trapping/fishing friend said spawning carp...

Rhubarb is not indigenous to the U.S. having arrived here sometime in the early 19th century, so I think it's safe to assume that wherever you find rhubarb, someone has been there before you.

I had no idea it wasn’t native to here! Cool, thanks for telling me that!
