    Here in early 1960's Nebraska, Dad tried to cash in on saving the 3rd cutting for alfalfa seed. He bought a used "fanning mill." We kids had to help. It was a fine dust coming from the seed. It burned up my nose. I was about 8 years old. My job was holding the sack where the precious seed came out of the clean screen.

    We have been planting beans and corn for 10 days . We have had a 3 day rain out but it dried up enough to do some beans today . Unfortunately it's going to rain tomorrow so it's looking like Thursday before we can go again. Dad is spraying what we've planted into standing rye to burn down the rye . I'm going to run all night to get everything done once dad finishes what he's spraying . Great video keep up the good work!

    Thanks for another great video Kip. It was interesting and enjoyable.
    The drone footage of the field work was outstanding. Reminds you how important farming in America is!!!!!
    Put an old American flag on one of the rigs to show off our country.
    I notice most of your tractors how fenders on the front wheels. Like that. Keeps trash off the tractor. Neat!!!!!!
    Busy busy time for all of you. Equipment to get ready and seed to load and fertilizer. Takes time to get ready to head for the field. Those two big John Deere tractors just buzzing along.
    Know what you mean by making sure the field is done correctly. Prevents the neighbors from digging at you about your mistakes. Oh my, been there done that before. Ha.
    We never had auto steer or cabs in my day. Amazing what is available to the farmer now days. Makes the day a lot easier especially the long hard days.
    About it for now.
    You all take care and be safe.
    Looking forward to the next video.
    Thanks for everything Kip.
    The Iowa farm boy.
    Steve.

  • @bradh74
    @bradh74 Před 4 měsíci

    You said that you were planting Wheat and Hay (different grasses I assume). So I guess that means your feeding Wheat mixed with Hay (small % Hay to Wheat 20%?) since you said you'll be running a Hay bine over it so you used a roller packer after seeding for better soil to seed contact and to keep rocks down so you don't ruin the Hay bine. Do you have to use a Hay bine because you're harvesting Wheat, or does it process the whole crop better? Do you feed Wheat because of nutrition, better yield for your area/soil, cost or all or most of the above? Really curious about how farms work I notice dairy farms seem to like to feed silage and beef farms tend to feed hay and may supplement with grains and different cattle do better on different grasses etc. Hope I didn't drop too many questions on you, someday I hope to get into farming or at least homesteading as a retirement.
