    The arrows having water collision likely comes from general necessity. Since Ice Arrows could now freeze water, it meant that arrows had to hit the water to register the freezing.

    • @abela1228
      @abela1228 Před rokem +9

      there are ice arrows in the gerudo training grounds in oot. though they're not needed to complete the game, they're still there so the water collision necessity doesn't count when what they added in mm is water drops flying to indicate that the arrow went through

    • @SuperSuperstarMario
      @SuperSuperstarMario Před rokem +62

      @@abela1228 The Ice Arrows did exist in OoT in the Gerudo Training Grounds, yes. But in OoT, they didn't have the power to freeze water. They just froze enemies, because, indeed, they were not required to beat the game. Since it didn't freeze water, collision for them wasn't needed. MM brought in the ability to freeze water for the Ice Arrows as it became a tool for solving puzzles, so the arrows have the need to connect against the water for the game to register when an Ice Arrow has touched water and needs to generate an ice platform.

      I think a similar explanation applies to the roll. I think Goron Link's roll needed to break things and they reused code from Link's normal roll... but then Goron needed to break pots and bushes so they were flagged as being breakable by rolling.

      I think it might just be for game flow too, since it would be easier to navigate small obstacles like pots and grass if you can just roll through them.
      That or maybe they wanted it to seem like Link has more weight and force behind his rolls, maybe even to help show he is slightly more older now.

      @@feathero3 Random thought, but I figured that it could also be due to how you can temporarily be swordless via giving it to the blacksmith, so it's like an alternative method of quickly getting materials without having to tediously pick up and throw everything. Pretty much just food for thought, really

    In majora the camera likely doesn't move because of the real time system, often you need to wait and watch for something specific and they made sure the camera wouldn't fight you.

      @kaneda010 Před rokem +2

      I could never understand why they removed the auto centering camera, it's a really useful feature in dungeons especially, and prevents the need to use the (imo very jarring) Z-button camera flip. However, that's a very good explanation and I think you're right.

    • @feathero3
      @feathero3 Před rokem +17

      I personally hate it when a camera auto moves like that. It usually messes up what I'm trying to focus on, or ruins my chances at looking at my character's details.
      But that's why games should make it simply a changeable option in the menu, so every player can get the gameplay experience they want!

    • @kaneda010
      @kaneda010 Před rokem +3

      @@feathero3 It only happened when you completely stopped moving, for several seconds, so I can't recall a time I ever found it intrusive during gameplay. You also have to remember Nintendo developed a completely automated camera system for the N64 Zelda's in order to get around the fact there were no buttons or sticks for camera control. What they achieved was very elegant and kind of miraculous.

    I wonder if rolling to destroy the grass/pots in Majora was implemented so the player had a way of easily doing so, in case Link was without his sword (whether it was stolen by the Takkuri bird or left at the Mountain Smithy)!

    • @TheGameCreator13
      @TheGameCreator13 Před rokem +8

      Literally was about to comment that.
      Who knows how long the Sword would be absent for during the upgrade at the Smithy. They could've planned on it taking a full 3 days originally (And since a 7 day cycle was planned in the beginning. Maybe longer)
      But at the time they might've been unsure how long the player might not have a Sword so they made his roll a passable (but less effective) replacement, in case they decided on a longer wait time
      That's my interpretation of the thought process behind buffing the roll anyway

    Awesome video! The debug camera makes these extra enjoyable! I wanted to point out a small and maybe not so remarkable detail for ocarina of time. When link is talking to an NPC, he will continue facing the head of whoever he is talking to. This is best demonstrated by talking to gaebora kaepora on top of death mountain when he offers to take you back to kakariko village. If you position link right under him and talk to him, link will spin around to face his head whenever he cranes his neck as he usually does. This might be possible to demonstrate in other instances as well.

    It's not the magic upgrade in Majora's Mask that makes the quick spin a red wave. It's the Spin Attack Mastery. They were able to do that because Link has magic before he gains Spin Attack Mastery. That and the powered up quick spin is what makes it worth getting.

    Hey I've been watching your videos alot recently and I love your attention to all these small details and videos where you show me things about Ocarina that I never knew. I have a couple cool details that I wanted to cover on my channel but I have something going on thats taking my time, and I think these would suite your next video. 1. Grog actually had a full set of hair and it's still available in the games files. This was uncovered by a discord group that's currently working to compile MM for a possible future port. There's a code present in his script that collapses his hair. That's why there's one angle where it looks invisible it's so thin. A similar thing can be done to links body using GameShark. Maybe his hair was too buggy and after collapsing just went with the mohawk to save on time.
    2. This one's really small, but if you remain idle in MM the camera will zoom in slow as molasses. I have to play it sped up by x200 to notice the change but you'll be surprised how much it zooms in. Almost goes through link but eventually the distance begins to cap about a foot away.
    3. Majora won't shoot lasers at Fierce Diety Link. I found this while creating a battle between Majora and Ganon. During which I studied alot of they're attack habits and values that affect the battle. Theres a code that controls when Majora can reach it's next phase of attacks (which includes the laser) but the code will deactivate it's self when you play as Fierce Diety. Change into any other mask and it reactivates, so I guess it was intentional.
    Thats all I got, and if you'd like to get up with me, I'd gladly get you some footage of all of this. Keep on rocking out these good videos Looygi!

    • @zhell
      @zhell Před rokem +3

      the reason why the hair looks so thin from 1 specific angle is just because the hair is a texture and not a model. Its not related to anything else.

    • @feathero3
      @feathero3 Před rokem +1

      That laser prevention sounds interesting! Like lore wise I wonder if Majora is too scared to use the laser, or if Fierce Deity is somehow preventing it from firing with a magical aura or something. Gameplay wise it's probably just to make the Fierce Deity mask an even better option/reward for the final fight.
      Also I would LOVE to see a fight between Majora and Ganon!

    Fun fact: While Link in Majora’s Mask doesnt swim as fast as he was in Ocarina of time, Fierce Deity Link can swim as fast as Ocarina of Time Link. I think thats been used on him instead.
    Also, you dont have to tap to swim faster as Fierce Deity as well.

    I didn't know rolling destroyed grass in mm!
    Interesting
    Also the grog look-alike is a completely different character as he gets lost in the lost woods in oot and becomes a monster

    • @Shade04rek
      @Shade04rek Před rokem +1

      Most likely, but there is also an interesting theory that it's the same one and he somehow ported to Termina too when he ran away, and raised cuckoos cause he loves them like in both games.

    • @jonsmith5058
      @jonsmith5058 Před rokem +2

      @@Shade04rek Bad theory cause there can simply be a Termina Grog, we have duplicates of so many other characters so why would Grog be special? More likely he just turned into a Stalfos as thats what happens to most people who get lost there and Grog is just Termina's version.
      There are plenty of other similarities seen in other characters that exist in both dimensions.
      The archery guys still run an archery shop each, romani still has a ranch with cows and knows eponas song, the girl who runs the treasure chest game is basically the same but in a different shop, honey and darling are still obsessed with each other, the dog lady still loves dogs but took it to another level, guru guru still plays a music box and gets made easily. You can go on and on. We dont have theories to suggest these people also fell through a portal to explain their similarities, its a reach to suggest Grog needs one too.
      He's dead in OOT and chilling on Romani Ranch in MM, two separate people, two alternate dimensions.

    Not sure if anybody else mentioned this but in Majora the bow will destroy a skulltula from the front, and in Ocarina it won’t! So you have to use the hookshot in ocarina and the bow in Majora.
    Great video as always!

    • @wilfriedsee3141
      @wilfriedsee3141 Před rokem +2

      @Aya Turchio
      You mean from the back:
      in Ocarina of Time, both the hookshot and the bow destroy a skulltula from the front and from the back.
      In Majora's Mask, the hookshot is ineffective against a Skulltula from the front, and it destroys them only from the rear.
      Like Ocarina of Time, the bow destroys a skulltula from the back and from the front in Majora's Mask.

    Very nice video ! I have just a suggestion for you : it will be cool if you make more suspense in your subjects, for example for the clumps of grass in your vid you said first that in Majora the clumps of grass is breakable with the roll so it was easy to guess that in Ocarina it's not the case. But if you take first the Ocarina's example and you say for example : "Roll have no effect in clumps grass", here we can't really guess what gonna be the effect of the roll in clumps grass in Majora's Mask, so there are more suspense. Very nice video again. 👍

    For the rolling to destroy grass and jars, I wonder if it has to do with the shield. The Deku shield is being worn in the OOT clips and the Hyrule shield is worn in MM, maybe the metal Hyrule shield "cuts" the grass and pots? Not sure if OP tested both shields

    • @toninapolis3594
      @toninapolis3594 Před rokem +5

      Well, in OOT you need a strength upgrade to uproot grass, so a roll breaking it would make the upgrade meaningless in that regard

    • @penelope8134
