Sadly after 84 breakin was dying our not just in NYC but Europe too I'll never forget I've near Yankee stadium s.bronx and was after midnight saying where's the breakin and crews this was summer 85.
1986 new York breakin as a whole just died off . That culture that made us so happy just faded out .

Yooo... 1:10, that's a different angle of Pex coming out of that windmill than the actual movie! Director's cut stuff!

Beat street > Breakin’. The time spent on each movie shows and the quality and depth of Beat Street proves it as the superior flick. Funny thing about Breakin’ too is that they didn’t even do a lick of breakdancing ; it was all pop locking and choreographed moves. Although boogaloo shrimp and ozone were great poppers and lockers, breakers they were not.

Breakin was mainstream HORRENDOUS and beat street was the real underground view. I grew up in that Era in Philly and I never ever seen anyone dress like the clowns in breakin. I remember as kids when beat street came out we would go to the MAB paint store and get the free painter caps and rock our TI windbreakers. We would carry our cardboard cutout or linoleum from block to block battling other crews. I was 12 when that came out and it took the inner city by storm. I was a little fat kid and atrocious at breakin lol.

Boss with the hot sauce haha yeah we were all little toys at that age but we still recognized the real (beat street ) from the fake (breakin). And the most obvious difference was the MUSIC. Shows that Harry Belafonte wanted to truly show an authentic picture of the Bronx /nyc culture whereas the Canon group was cashing in quickly and was semi-exploitative. Coming from Chicago I defintly preferred the cleaner east coast style with puma suedes, skinny Lees and windbreaker over the crazy California style.

I'm from the southside of Chicago. I remember going to see Beat Street at the Woods Theater downtown on Randolph st in 1984. Man time flies. SMH

@ Lee Dee : Funny thing about your comment regarding the movie BREAKIN' is that you totally overlooked EDDIE "HANDYMAN" RODRIGUEZ'S part which was TRULY AMAZING AND INSPIRATIONAL !❤💪💯 : czcams.com/video/bCPyKx4ag3Y/video.html

Saying that it did start in the late 70s . But I was too young . 83 and 84 2 years when it was at its peak. Hence why wild style and beat street and all the legend movies came out . What a time especially if you lived in new York back then was so much life especially at night time . Sumner in new York I early 80s to late 80s was unique . U just had to be there. Any true new yorker who grew up there would know what I'm saying.
    Miss the 80s talk. Lol.
    That's fresh.
    That's bad .
    Yo...
    Waz up ?.
Oh I miss the 80s as a whole didn't realise then it'll turn out greatest era for hiphop and music too .
Grandmaster flash. African bambata, and so much couless more . An great era to other music and influence of Rock etc in run dmc .
Public enemy after it just was insane . I.m.o it was the 90s that hip hop was no longer hip hop just became RAP.
Then influence if NWA came along on just ruined it abd the whole essence of 5 elements if hip hop. Hip hop came from new York and people forget that .
