    All the piano playing in the beginning is what Brian called “Fred noodling around “, so he could catch his breath a bit after the previous songs. They constructed their set list to allow for a ballad here and there after the fast paced songs. Freddie was a master of his craft

    Wow, there is no one like them. The best

  • @DonnaleaSpencer
    @DonnaleaSpencer Před 25 dny +9

    thing I super like with Queen is they don't perform all of their songs dead-on like their albums. They do vary the delivery. Roger & Brian say in commentary and interviews that should Freddie feel his vocals were off (or his throat was bothering him) that Freddie was the best in switching up vocals w/o compromising the song in any way. The song delivery will even vary from venue to venue within the same concert tour. It's what makes every viewing so unique and enjoyable. And we do Play The Game - well, we play favorites. It's why we might tell you 'do such and such a song in THIS specific concert on THIS specific day."

      Yes, I've seen them live, and he does switch it up because they did long concerts.
      In this case however it's easier to go for the falsetto he does on the studio version, as apposed to belting it out.

    My favorite Queen song. Since I first bought the cassette in 1984 ❤
    They enjoyed a beer or 5 on stage then! Just phenomenal ❤

    •  Před 25 dny +2

      Was it really beer? I read that it was tea.

    Hey Justin…
    Just FYI:
    I think perhaps the one song that would be considered the highlight of this concert, is actually Freddie’s performance of:
    “SOMEBODY TO LOVE”
    It is THIS live version of that song, which Queen has included in their compilation of BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES.
    (And, even tho the Montreal rendition of this is much more well-known… EVERY single reactor who has watched this performance, has stated it is even better than the famous Montreal gig.)

      @kellycrook543 Před 25 dny +3

      Yes, I agree, totally. I love Somebody to love at Milton Keynes more than Montreal.
      I would like you to do that one.
      You won't be disappointed. You'll love it!!!

    BTW tho (last comment, PROMISE!)…
    Since you’re interested in the instrumentation (if you haven’t already done this, I didn’t go look, sorry) …
    The performance of:
    “Dragon Attack” at this show is really interesting because:
    Brian breaks a guitar string right in the middle of the song and has to go change guitars… while Deaky just SEAMLESSLY picks up Brian’s part and plays it on his bass until Brian jumps back in!
    It’s a BRILLIANT example of consumate musicianship.

    25 years later and I still have Queen posters (hidden somewhere), some of them are from Montreal 1981 and Milton Keynes 1982! It would be great if You would react the very beginning with We Will Rock You (fast) and The Hero together (they are short)! The Hero You didnt react to))) Also in the Budapest concert there were some 4 small doc. videos ( ~2 min.) about each member of the band talking and walking in the Budapest!

    Freddie was really revved up for this one! He had just come off performing the fast version of We Will Rock You followed by Action This Day! He was a total ball of energy for this entire concert. I don't know how it is for others, but I find it hard to decode your remarks when you talk over the music, so I feel I am missing some content. (especially when Freddie is shouting, lol) Still, happily😍looking forward to your choices from Budapest.

    Somebody to love from here is amazing. Very different vibe from Montreal.
    This is also an outdoor show, hence IMO why he doesn’t go for his soft voice.

    Excellent live version. This is my favorite song on The Game. The Game album was the last one they still sounded like classic Queen. There are some great songs on the next few albums (except Hot Space). But their sound definitely changed as the 80’s progressed.

    This IS a great song and I have always loved that piano into and the guitar solos are beautiful. Of course, then there is Freddie who just makes this song his own every time.

    Yep spot on Justin. In some instances falsetto is often too weak live . I was at this one. Fat Bottom Girls was fantastic imo. Nice job .

    This whole concert was great, but I especially love this rendition of Play the Game, also Somebody to Love from this concert. While Under Pressure in this concert was good, Wembley 86 is better.

  • @marvalstith2749
    @marvalstith2749 Před 25 dny +1

    Certainly not presented as a ballad. Is that what you mean? Freddie, Brian, Deaky and Roger surely chose a rousing focus for this presentation. Gonna research it's placement in the set list. It is one of my most favorite Queen songs.

  • @TheBlackcredo
    @TheBlackcredo Před 25 dny +2

    Anyone else think Roger and Brian's mics were way too low in the mix? It's supposed to be powerful three part harmony, not just backing singing. Other than that, brilliant performance.

  • @coreywilliams923
    @coreywilliams923 Před 25 dny +2

    You've probably already done them by the time you read this, but I would recommend Wembley over Budapest. It's basically the same set list (Wembley a bit longer) and Wembley is far more of an iconic performance.

    • @betseyclark2832
      @betseyclark2832 Před 25 dny +2

      Yes, they are performing for the home crowd, and they always put in extra for that!

  • @johnjanovsky
    @johnjanovsky Před 25 dny +1

    For some reason Freddie didn’t like doing the falsetto thing live.

    • @ZENOBlAmusic
      @ZENOBlAmusic Před 25 dny +2

      It is not done originally in falsetto it is done in mixed voice. But Freddie liked belting live. Belting is actually more difficult than singing in mixed voice. Most singers will try to make it easier on the voice by adding more mixed voice.
