VTNVIVI, I think this is the one time I'm on the opposite spectrum on this topic. Remember she was partially tricked by Paradox into going against Sly and the gang. Remember in the clips you showed here in this very video she says: "If only he wasn't brainwashed by his "honorable thievery" nonsense we could've made billions in weapons designs." Now where could she have gotten that idea in the first place? From Paradox's sliver tongue. With the way he does his business in modern time it's a no brainer that he would apply that trickery on her in the hopes that Sly would hold back or make Bentley not get involved with the battle and lose heart all together. However, since she learned of Paradox's deception, she is seeking redemption, but due to what she did she can't face Bentley as of yet, and she's not using technological means of communication so Bentley and *ONLY BENTLEY* can't find her right away. I mean how CAN she face him after everything she did to her friends and they guy she loves? Yes she could be looking for Sly, but also herself as in where she would fit into the group any more after her betrayal and everything.
Well, former enemies were turned into friends. Let's take for instance, Panda King. He took part in Sly's parents' murder. Yet, Bentley thought including him in the gang would be essential. Sly was mad at first, but he ended up trusting him. So if Penelope sends those postcards to say something "hey I'm looking for Sly too", I doubt she will be seeking revenge or ringtail's death. As you said, she is looking for redemption after being tricked by Le Paradox. So, knowing the gang's past, she might be forgiven... should she find Sly. Unfortunately it's very unlikely we'll see Sly 5 any time soon as Sanzaru doesn't have any project in short-term.

Given how she built LeParadox’s time machine and still has interest in Bentley, it’s highly possible that she could be the one to get sly out of Egypt by simply tracking her creation as a means to reconcile with her boyfriend.

It does not make sense that Penélope hated Sly, I mean did she fake liking him in Sly 3, like what really caused her hatred of him🤔
I think she felt abandoned by him, with Bentley left to pick up the pieces . . .
See...This makes me believe she was hired by someone, if you want to justify her sudden behaviour. Sure, maybe Paradox ''brainwashed'' her, but ultimately it was her decision.

Man I don't know but I keep picturing after finally beating the boss fight Carmelita Fox punches Penelope in the face.
It could just be sanzarus way of hinting to the players how sly’s trapped in Egypt cliffhanger was going to be resolved, with Penelope’s help. She did build LeParadox’s time traveling blimp along with its communication devices.
Plus, since the postcards she’s sending to Bentley are pictures of where she’s been, they look more like invitation than threat mail.
I'm just hoping that's the case, that she's trying to tell Bentley that she's willing to right her wrongs after finding out that she's been duped by LaParadox

I woud love her to be a real mastermind villain, working for Paradox just to trick him and use his resources for her own gain. Haing some connection to clockwerk (like yo once theorized) or just beeing her own trickter. I mean he might have seen an aportunity to get close to Cooper Gang in the thrd game and it all could have been just an act...
It woud just have to be explained really well by writers, they can make her a true manipulator, all we need is a good motivation - a good goal in all of this. Money is not good enough, revange is old in this series... Power? Then what kind... I see a lot of apportunities there... her redeeming herself uld be just weird like: I am good! Now Im bad! You know what I am good again.
I am all up for redeeming villains! But not traitors, for me they have to stay traitors so their story has any meaning.

Lando from Star Wars was a traitor and he ended up being a hero for the rest of the series. Besides she was just a pawn in LeParadox’s scheme.
I'd prefer her to make things right with the Cooper gang, even help bring down someone worse than Clockwerk, Dr M, and LaParadox combined
My theory is Penelope is connected with Clockwerk.
1. She probably helped clockwerk get through different times to fight coopers from different times. Which explains why clockwerk appears in all the images behind different coopers.
2. Clockwerk isn’t immortal, he has the opportunity to time travel too. Clockwerk using metal materials on his body, making himself a robot is just a last resort plan of “immortality” for him.
3. Penelope build Clockwerk. Maybe She is Clockwerk who knows?
Demii739 What's interesting is that Clockwork is seen as an Easter Egg in every time period including Bob's time. Now in the first Sly, it said he became immortal through advanced technology fueled by hatred for the Cooper family. Now why would he appear in full metal glory in the ice age? There were no records of Bob at all in the Theivius Racoonus nor does Sly even know about his existence. How did Paradox know that this particular Cooper Cane was there since he sent Grizz to retrieve it?
I believe on the building Clockwerk part. If not, I could imagine her re-building Clockwerk after his defeat in Sly 1. Everything she's been doing has been part of their plan. Clockwerk is surely patient, he's survived for 100s of years. Him waiting for the next attack is not too crazy.
Clockwerk in 10 000BC was either just pure easter egg or he originated from the future, like a one way ticket to the past. Why didn't he kill Bob? Well he needed hate to survive, GENUINE hate. Killing Sly's line completely would revoke him from such power.
It's a stretch but, the moment when she's taken captive by Le'Fwee, Sly and co make a tactical retreat to plan and save her instead of trying to save her right at that moment.
"You're the field-man!!! Why couldn't you save me here the same way you saved me from that dragon?!! And then not only do you abandon your friends, but your lineage (the Cooper Vault)!!!
Compared to her who never would've had a reason to leave her position as the Black Baron if Sly and co. never contacted her . . .
I think that's where her resentment towards Sly started.
Penelope is probably looking for a way to redeem herself or looking for Sly herself.

Of course Bentley can take another crack at negotiating with her. She knows LeParadox’s time machine and blimp inside and out since she’s the one who created it.
There’s an old saying “you don’t know how precious something is until it’s gone.” She probably misses Bentley and is offering to help find sly as a form of apology………or as a bargaining chip.

1. The gang simply went back in time where Salim was older.
2. Henriette could have been Rioichi's daughter looking at the timeline, you know pirates being active in 1600s. As for Sleigh, he's from 1400s.
3. Ahh good question. Either Clockwerk himself or he had a secret ally. I don't think it was Raleigh.
4. hmm...We don't know all the details. Backstory is he had to sacrifice his shark friend to make the best sushi in order to open his sushi house, a dream of his. As for how he learned, well with time i guess :P

I really hope the Bentley x Penelope story arc is resolved in Sly 5. Her personification in Thieves in Time was poorly designed. A redemption story would go a long way to undoing the damage.

I'm so glad you finally made a video talking about Penelope and this whole topic surrounding her. I mostly agree with your theories but I really hope that Sly 5 might come out next year alongside the tv show when that starts, since Sanzaru games is working on a secret project. or maybe probably not?
The secret project of theirs could have been Spyro, since their name is on the back cover, they had some sort of involvement.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sly and Carmelita along with Bentley and Penelope get married at some point in that

Im one of the few who love Evil Penelope xD, the idea of her being an evil genius driven by greed/bigger ambition while still having feelings for Bentley is of the of reason why i want Sly 5 :), the other one is carmelita fox finally being part of the cooper gang in their missions instead of going after them again and randomly attack and beat the bad guys like the previous games.
Carmelita still has a place at Interpol, her working with the gang will be kept secret for sure.

She's definitely up to something bad,(and not the getting Sly back thing either.) I mean,she broke out of jail,and so she's probably going after Bentley. I can definitely see how they can do Sly 5. For the first little half of the game. You play as Carmalita in her search for Sly,and then after a while. Bentley show's these photo's to Murray,and Carmalita then, Bentley suspect's that the photo's might be a way to find Sly but,they would have to find Penelope first to understand what she sent these photo's for.
So,each one of them go to one of these spot's first (Except the plane one) Carmalita goes to the jail cell while the other two go to the other spot's. Carmalita find's something in Penelope's cell,and it's part of Bentleys time machine. The other two also found party's for that as well.
They're all confused of how the time machine parts got their,and feared the worst thinking It's (whatever that skunks name was in Sly 4)
Meanwhile while working on the Van. Murray saw Penelope running with "the skunk" into a dark alleyway. Murray,went to go check but,saw no one there (although Penelope,and the skunk were hiding on top of a building,and then she opened a strange Vortex that swallowed Murray up,and transported him into the distant future.)
Carmalita,and Bentley went outside to see what's all the noise,and was shocked to see the Van,and Murray disappeared.
They assume it was Penelope,and the other villain,and find something particular on the floor,and Bentley picks it up,and goes back inside to analyze it further,and find's out It's from the future. An orb of futuristic power able to manipulate thing's around them,and maybe even time itself. So,Bentley decides together to build all the pieces into a time machine to go to the future,and also get's some help from a new character
(A mechanic). To help build their new Van assuming the Van was gone for good....
(And,in the game you get to customize how it look's,and even put sticker's,or possibly remove the Sly Logo from the Van.)
You can also find "futuristic" engine part's around the world's you visit,and are a bit hard to find,and if you collect 20 of them.
Your van will be fully upgraded,and that comes into play cause there is side mission's,or whatever where you have to drive the van,and they're pretty difficult,and that's why you would have to find these 20,or various number of "futuristic" engine part's in each world.
Well,actually,the number of engine parts goes up by 10 in each world which there would be 7 world's total....
So,they travel into the future this time to save the present from collapsing,and try to save Murray,and possibly even Sly but,try not to run into their future self's cause it would sorta mess thing's up in time itself.
And,that's the first part of the game.
I think those two pictures are just Easter eggs for people who saw the Gamescom trailer & the “Timing is Everything” short.

I still feel bad about the plot twist with Penelope in Sly 4. Her and Bentley made an amazing pair and she was cute and one of my fav characters
I didn't mind the twist, I think the 8 year gap made people too used to the idea of Penelope being the nice girl.
So, probably nothing AT ALL but I was looking at the postcards, thinking to myself, why these three specific ones...
Look closely at the first one - isn’t the shape in which she broke the bars odd? It looks like an eye...and, pay attention to the order in which Bently has the postcards...
The first is shaped like an eye, the second is a picture of Paris, the city of love, and I’d say that the third looks like a picture of a lab, perhaps Bentley’s...
What if the message Penelope is trying to send him is :
“I love you”
Because again, the first is eye or I, city of love or love, and lab or associated with you (Bentley)
Again, I could be wrong but like - why that order, why those pictures, and why would Penelope be contacting him in the first place if not to send a message

Vivi! Just thinking about this now on how sly Cooper 4 sold my grandmother went to pick up my copy and my brothers and they only had 1 left so she orderd my brothers on the site that day and got it a day or two later
Penelope switching sides again I can picture Sly really angry at Penelope to which at the point he'd threaten her life if she ever double crosses Sly and his crew again including Carmelita. Another picture would be Carmelita also angry at Penelope she'd even threaten her life if Penelope ever shows any signs of treachery even if there's a good reason to double-cross the Cooper Gang and Carmelita. I can imagine after the boss fight with Penelope, Carmelita would approach Penelope after Penelope regained consciousness Carmelita would say one last thing to Penelope before punching Penelope in the face.

Here's how the encounter of Penelope would go in Sly Cooper 5. When Sly, Bentley, Murray and Carmelita encounter Penelope they all express disgust towards her in which they all don't want to talk to her. Penelope wanted to talk about what she did but Carmelita punches Penelope in the face causing her to cry. Penelope tries to make her statement of he motives but Carmelita decides to punch her again but Bentley tells her to stop and let her talk. After Penelope makes her statement of what she has done, Sly, Bentley, Murray and Carmelita eventually let Penelope rejoin the team but Carmelita threatens Penelope that if she ever double crosses the team again or even harming or killing Sly Cooper Carmelita will not hesitate to turn her in to the police, putting her back in prison and having her sentence from how many years in prison to a life sentence. Then cue the storyline of Sly Cooper 5.
Here's how Carmelita threatens Penelope.
Carmelita: You might have rejoined the friends you've double-crossed but I know what you did that was very hurtful to Bentley. So let me make myself clear Penelope. If you ever double-cross my criminal and his friends or give me a reason to hurt or kill Sly I will not hesitate to turn you in to INTERPOL, put you back in prison and having your sentence turned to life imprisonment! Got me?!
Penelope nods yes.
Carmelita: Get in the van! NOW!!
Penelope and Carmelita enter Murray's van and the Cooper gang, Carmelita and Penelope drive off to a new adventure with Penelope crying her eyes out.
Cue the storyline of Sly Cooper 5.
Hard to say in the end. if i recall. If Panda king has redeemed himself after what he has done for all those years and what Demetri has done, he too was redeemed. She too has a chance. But that's like a damn out of place redemption for some commenters here. But still, hard to say. For now we wait.....

I do think you are over thinking, but not on what Penelope is up to, going after Sly, but not really the locations being important, but those probably are hints of that. I also think that the postcards could be a psychological game, hear me out, by putting Bently nervous about Sly safety, he would probably rush the development of new information, which she then could use to spend more time making her own time machine, leaving Bently the duty of unconciously lead her to Sly.
If they got another game, and they did this, it would be really interesting. And it would fit a more intelligent bad guy for a move like this

what i dont understand is she had a crush on Sly at the end of of EP3 for Sly 3 and it doesnt make any sense for her to turn her back on sly and also i think the pictures are linked with sly being in egypt and she is helping and i think Picture 1 means meet me in paris picture 2 means i have escaped and picture 3 means plane crash which i think refers to the blimp crashing at the end of sly 4 ik my theory might sound dumb but hey it could be a possible fact

maybe.....since Sly got back in time is Penelope showing us what happened in the past from what Sly did before he went. Sly was never in that street to show the ''trailer'' and he never stole the watch from Mugshot. So the plane got at it destination. idk. just some random theory.
Maybe's she used some kind of time travel device to get on Muggshot's plane during or before that heist.

I think Decibel had a whole in Penelope's total shift in personality... Decibel does have or had used hypnotism in her arc, so my theroy they will learn about that, somehow.

One thing I found a little confusing after the events of Sly 3, the gang (Sly, Bentley and Murray) separaded and started doing their out things in public, but none of them were arrested even thoe they were wanted crimminals. Sly faked amnesia, and maybe the police thought they could not arrest someone who doesn't know who they were But Murray started with racing with the Cooper van, shouldn't the police notice that?
Remember the master of disguise from Thaddeus, I take it that's why no one noticed Sly. As for the others, they just kept lowkey.

I'd imagine that after the boss fight with Penelope, Carmelita would approach Penelope and Carmelita says to Penelope "This is for breaking Bentley's heart and trying to kill my criminal Sly Cooper" and then Carmelita punches Penelope in the face.
If I had to guess, Penelope would be trying to make amends after finding out that LaParadox duped her
I think we need to rule out the Timing is Everything short as non-canon for a few reasons, the main one being where in the timeline it would even take place. It can't take place in between Sly 1 and 2 because Muggshot is in jail and it can't take place in between 2 and 3 because all three members of the gang were never present at the same time and Musggshot is STILL in jail. Bentley was in the hospital for an undisclosed amount of time after the events of Sly 2, then Murray left shortly after him and Sly "rescued" Bentley from the hospital. And I should mention that happens a week after Sly breaks into jail to see McSweeny, where we also see Muggshot in one of the prison cells. There's also the present technology that causes a problem. We have NEVER known the van to be able to fly, have the sides open like a DeLorean, have a grapple launcher, or a sun roof in the original trilogy. Features like these didn't exist until Sly 4 when Bentley modified the van for time travel, most likely adding the extra grapple launcher and rocket boost features as a bonus.
So while the Timing is Everything short was enjoyable, it is definitely just a non-canon promotional piece for Sly 4. The pictures that Penelope sent Bentley are most likely just Easter egg callbacks to the Gamescom trailer and the animated short. If you haven't noticed, Sly 4 is littered with references and the pictures are just two more to add to the collection. To back this up, it would be impossible for Penelope to go on Muggshot's plane and take that picture of the spray painting because the last time we saw it, it crashed straight into a mountain and exploded. In conclusion, the pictures don't have any deeper meaning other than being Easter eggs to promotional material and Timing is Everything is non-canon.
As for Penelope making a comeback, perhaps a situation where her, Bentley and Murray are forced to work together in a potentially future game would be interesting. As you mentioned, Bentley and Penelope built the time machine together and Penelope even made her own improvements to the version she built for Le Paradox. What if Penelope has developed features for the time machine that Bentley needs for them to find Sly, but he can't create them on his own?
But her feeling remorse for what she did? I honestly can't see that because of the way her character was presented in Sly 4. And if she does end up feeling bad and wanting to make it up to Bentley and the rest of the gang, it would come off as ingenuine and cheesy because she would just be making another 180 like we saw in Sly 4 with no build-up or explanation. It would be more bad writing. So in my opinion, if Penelope were reintroduced into the story, a situation where her and the gang would have to reluctantly work together would be optimal.

Ahh this is something I always said, Penelope manipulating everything, well not everything that's happened. Penelope rebuilding Clockwerk in the past is an old theory I discussed a while back :)
I would love to see Detective Fox have a diary called the foxy diary just like the Thievius Raccoonus it holds all of the family history of the fox family even cooler both books are surprisingly accurate connected the fox family and the Cooper family used to be at war with each other one trying to steal things the other trying to arrest them

Look at the photos. Penelope escapes. Paris( Sly’s and crew’s home city) she has to know Sly is missing. The last one is a challenge. Basically I think Penelope knows that Sly is lost in time and is challenging the gang to race her but I don’t think she will except an camerlita will be joining them.
I think both Penelope and Carmelita will be conflicted big time. Thieves in time Penelope didn’t tell benetly because she started to care for him. She did admit it could have been different if it wasn’t for the money. I think the next game will only have a few missions as Sly but the others will be the main focus
Or make it a long game, the longest and have a lot of Sly solo missions in Egypt.
So, here is my problem Timing is Everything. I feel like it is mean to be canon, but it doesn't fit anywhere. Mostly because of one of the lines in sly 3 when they use the rockets to fly with the van up to the vault, they mostly have voice lines that referencing that they have never actually had the van fly before and that they will never do it again. I guess there is a chance that they flew before and they were referencing towards the fact that they used fireworks to fly. However, it really just doesn't fit into the timeline anywhere (Which is ironic).
Anyways, I hope that they write Penelope's character well in 5 because they kind of threw an empty character at us in Sly 4. I'm not upset with the choice, but I hope they play it off well. Great video and ideas as always :D
Very good point! But maybe by not flying they meant launching the van? Maybe they thought it would've wrecked the van.
I have a theory (it's been a long time). Since Penelope had the same plans as Bentley for the time machine. She could make one again. Also set up things to track stuff if anything changes from the present. Well if she goes back and ask clockwork if she could see his camera data base (or Bentley retrieved it from the glowing eye they found in the 4th trophy). And looked through the base (because clockwork followed the coopers around) and find sly. If she is looking for sly she could have also go back and could have programmed/upgraded clockwork to kill Sly. Is it to far fetched?
Upgrading Clockwerk in ancient Egypt was an old theory I talked about a long time ago, like a stable time loop. If not and Penelope interferes with Clockwerk in the past, it could have consequences.

I never cared for Penelope's character....I felt like the Cooper gang never really needed her. I believe Bentley would have just built his own RC tech eventually even if they never picked her up as a member.
Mayyybe :) But, that would've taken too long for the gang. By the time Bentley would figure it out, Dr.M would've caused even more trouble.
I'm still confused why people hate that aspect of the game. I only usually judge a movie or game if it has bad acting, or it does something that would normally be impossible. I don't remember this game having either of those problems, except maybe the time-travel
I think the 8 year gap between 3 and 4 is to blame. For 8 years, fans got used to Penelope being the nice girl.

It’s an interesting concept. A little worried to say more because if my comments on Skylanders in your Reignited Trilogy videos is anything to go by, then people would probably criticize me for enjoying the plot twist with Penelope. Sheesh, you can hardly state your own opinion these days.

What if Penelope was in deep undercover (even carmalita didn't known about) like agent of interpol or cia and she was drafted before beginning of the game and reward is to make Bentley or whole gang free and without bounty on their heads?
Why kill Sly then? Would this secret job of hers prefer to arrest him? Actually, I could imagine someone wanting to kill Sly as opposed to capturing him, kinda like a game with more focus on Carmelita let's say.

Jesus christ Penelope reminds me of Eileen from Regular Show. They are both moles with glasses and they are nerdy. They were both in a relationship with the main character's wimpy best friend and they played a supporting part in their stories final battle and had a satsifying ending. (Sly 3's ending and Regular Shows ending. Im ignoring sly 4)

I feel like she's looking for Bentley for redemption. And those postcards are her way of saying that she still have feelings for him. And another thing: How does Penelope know that Sly is missing? She was arrested after she was defeated by Bentley.
I do agree on the feelings part. And yeah, how does she know Sly is missing? Only way to find out would be to either ease drop or come to Bentley.
She probably doesn’t know cooper is missing yet. The whole postcards of places sly’s been could be sanzarus way of telling us the gamers how sly can be rescued from Egypt, from help from the old teammate who built the time machine that sent him to Egypt along with the communication devices (like the Grizz’s phone) that can be traced with the right hacker.

I think she is still going to be evil and go after Sly in a bad way. In a fanfiction I made, she and a group of girls work for a womanizing black panther named Ricardo, hoping to rid the Cooper Clan for good by heading to Conner Cooper's time and kidnap Dr. M and McSweeney. Her reason for backstabbing the Cooper gang was because she had a fight with Bentley before Sly 4, trying to make billions and take over the world with Bentley believing that those things are not things he wants to do since they are bad and he never does stuff like this with Sly around. What do you think, VTNVIVI?
I could imagine her hiring people, she steals treasures from the vault, sells them, gets enough money to pay her girls for example. She could be lying about paying them, but that's too cliche. Bringing people from the past would cause some paradoxes though.
Dr. M and McSweeney will be captive in their timeline, not the present. Plus, the moment you meet Conner is when you already defeat the other girls, leaving Penelope the main girl Ricardo to rely on. I don't see the whole paying the girls thing or stealing from the vault.
I already mentioned it on a previous penelope-video, Le Paradox probably had some sort of list of Destinations for the Cooper-Ancestors and their respective time, so if she saw the blimp crash/disappear, she could connect the dots:
"Sly isn't here" + "Blimp disappeared" then "list of destinations" and then go for ancient egypt. She's probably able to build another time machine, like the one in the blimp, for sure.
To be honest though, in terms of plot, I'd rather see Penelope searching for Sly, just as a mean to kill him or at least, getting rid of him in any other way, since she hates him for what he had (unwillingly) done to Bentley
In terms of "character design", I'd rather see Penelope searching for him, to redeem herself to Bentley. It would even it out, of what happened in Sly 4, the betrayal of her yada yada yada. That alone doesn't make it up, though. Faking a relationship (if it really was faked), sticking with them for the Cooper Vault job, building a time machine and then suddenly disappearing + trying to murder Sly in Galleth's timeline.
Bentley wouldn't feel like, saving Sly would make up for all the things before mentioned. It would seem odd for me, even if Sly is one of Bentleys best friends. It's just too much to be justified with "just" Sly's Rescue.
As it goes for the pictures. She's surely using them to tease Bentley, but the locations most probably are "random" and don't hint at Sly's potential rescue from Penelope.
Also... if Penelope really held a grudge against Sly and tried to kill him... wouldn't she try to go for (around) the time, where Sly's Parents got killed? He's much more vulnerable than he is now. What could 8 year old Sly do against Penelope (with a potential mech-like suit, like Bentleys Prototype he was using in Sly 4)
That could very well be the plot of Sly 5, trying to stop Penelope from going back to 1992 (if I'm not mistaken) and attempting to kill him, when he was the most vulnerable.

But the list of destinations were for steeling the canes. Sly wounding up in Egypt was random seeing as how Paradox wanted to send Carm and Sly through an endless trip in time. Or...Paradox dun goofed and set the location to Egypt instead, that could explain it. I always love reading your comments, cool stuff you bring up :)

Maybe, Le Paradox wanted to steal the Cane of Slytunkhamen (explaining the "location"), but later he realised, it could cause too much trouble with the timeline or something.
As it goes for Sly's crash landing in egypt, it very well could have been, that the blimp had some problems with the canes getting stolen back, causing severe malfunctions to the time-related machinery or something, hence causing it to go haywire and throwing Sly into ancient egypt
To think of it, I don't even know, how he knew of Bob Cooper. He wasn't mentioned in the book, right? Were there any possible clues of how Le Paradox could have known about him? It could have been mere coincidence, I believe...
In most sci fi shows, pilots would have ways of tracking their ships. Penelope would have no difficulty finding the ship she built. Besides Penelope was never meant to be a villain in the first place, it was originally a mole.
Since lore-wise Clockwerk's first appearance was in Ancient Egypt and it never explains how he had access to hi-tech machinery I have a theory that Penelope is possibly responsible. It's not like she couldn't build another time machine and she definitely has the know how to build Clockwerk's mechanical body. She probably teamed up with Clockwerk to beat Sly who I reckon was the original Slytenkhamen.

It tells a good story and uses different forms of literature, mythology, Scripture, and history. Also the sequels is basically (like Semi-WWII, the first order is simply the imperial remenant.
