Fun fact! Six tanks land on the beach. Three don't get off it, one is destroyed entering the city, one is lost in the parking garage and the last one is destroyed by mortars.
Wrex 1 depends on the mortar. A standard 2b14 wouldn’t scratch the paint of the top of any modern tank really given that any tank has a minimum of 10 centimeters of roof turret armor if not more. A mortar would make one hell of a bang and the crew would probably not be hearing anything for the next minute but besides that they would be fine.

As someone who lives his whole live in Hamburg, this mission is something special. You can see a lot of buildings and objects that do exist in reality and make you say "that is my city!" :) Of course, it is not 100% detailled due to level design and fun/action. For example the beach at the beginning just doesnt exist there. It is our harbour (biggest one in Germany), so it is full of concrete and dikes, bridges and so on. The beach itsself is is a few kilometres west from that point. Nonetheless, I really like it! When you land on that beach, you can see a building with a couple on the roof, it is called "Fischauktionshalle" - in the old times, this is where fisherman sold their products. On that landing strip, there is a big fishmarket every sunday early moring. Starting at 5 am to 12 am (when I am correct). When you walk there more northern (the mission makes you walk left/west here, because of a house which doest not exist), you will come to Reeperbahn, our party and redlight district ;) After that parking garage you can see that big building with the tower on it, that is our townhall :) It just warms my heart to see my hometown in a big videogame. Just pls dont destroy it :D
Geisterfahrerüberholer there's no better advert for authenticity than when residents of a location that the game is set in can recognise and provide trivia about the area, like in the two division games, I bet any money that residents of New York and DC were able to navigate those locations without using the map

If you've ever been in a German parking garage, you've been laughing through the whole thing. When they built the parking garage for the new parliament offices in Berlin, they had to tear down the entry/exit again because they built it too narrow to pass with as much as an S-class Mercedes. The notion of having a parking garage in which you can maneuver with an MBT is utterly ludicrous.
The beach part of this mission is basically a modernized version of D-Day. Troops, tanks, and aircraft moving forward to get off the beach and vanquish the enemy.

For me, this is the most immersive COD mission (at least within Classic Modern Warfare trilogy), because there's barely any background music, the set pieces feels natural, there's a lot of NPC around (including the allied NPCs), and you spent most of the mission trying to push through against the enemy on your own pace. I love this mission!
I miss the giant battles of the old games where its just pure chaos, every mission in the newer games is just you working in a team of 2-3 people doing special operations stuff

Ok, this is one of those missions that I desperately want to know the logistics behind. A sudden blitz across the border into Eastern Europe, sure. Hell, I'll even buy into them taking most of Europe over the course of the next month with the various command networks in disarray, but how in the hell did they get heavy armor all the way to Paris in the immediate aftermath of the attack?
Battle of Hamburg.. one of the most amazing missions i ever played in a ego shooter, sometimes i just played the gme specifically to play this mission, every difficulty from easy to veteran, still my most favorite mission of the whole series!

Even though the logistics are nonsense and impractical, this mission started my favorite bit of the campaign. The London op, followed by mass warfare in Germany, Paris, & the stealth sections in Eastern Europe were just really well made. Really felt I was there and that it was a giant WW3, which was clearly the goal of the game
Even if the Russians attacked from Kaliningrad, which is unlikely given the limited forces positioned there, it’s still 430 miles straight line distance to Hamburg, which is done here in a matter of hours without anyone seeming to realize. For reference, Kuwait City to Baghdad is only 350 miles, and the 2003 invasion against a crippled Iraqi army still took over five weeks.

Well they aren’t necessarily “blitzkrieging” it like in WW2, back then the Germans where straight up executing anyone who opposed them.. this “blitzkrieg” is a lot more humane since Russia knows that the whole world is watching

Tanks and artillery are another important part for Blitzkriegs and supplies are short right now plus they aren’t just reducing everything to rubble
Even though the logistics are nonsense and impractical, this mission started my favorite bit of the campaign. The London op, followed by mass warfare in Germany, Paris, & the stealth sections in Eastern Europe were just really well made. Really felt I was there and that it was a giant WW3, which was clearly the goal of the game

But in reality it already sent to Ukraine almost all of it's currently free military formations (recently deployed 3rd Armed Corps was initially designed as _reserve_).
