When I use to heat with wood , if I left for a trip , I always “ set up” the wood stove Fire inside before I left so all I had to do is LiGHT her up! Love your cabin!

this is a fantastic little cabin. I like the usage of reclaimed and basic building materials. I've got a few in Wisconsin I rehabbed from 1930-40 little bungalows. I did them with all reclaimed materials and items from restore.

I live in Minocqua and have a home on the lake and a small cabin I built a few miles in the woods, I usually just take a sled ( snowmobile) to it! My wife also enjoys the outdoors she’s actually a better outdoorsman than I am!

I'd want a good wood cookstove to cook homemade bread and put a good hot soup on. Not to mention frying bacon and eggs and biscuits! I love the wood oven you made. Very good for cooking casseroles or bread. But might be a bit harder to get a regulated temperature. For baking, you need a steady and even temperature! Love your cabin!
I wonder if you built it with a ‘Y’ connector on the bottom connecting to the stove, with a damper, then another ‘Y’ on top to exhaust back into the chimney, if you’d be able to better regulate the temperature?
I live off grid and I use a big Dutch oven to bake breads, works great. Bit of a learning curve on keeping the fire temp going but I’ve made some good bread. Also, I found a large roasting pan at a thrift store and I turn it upside down over the rack that came with it and created an oven. It works OK and that’s all I have so I make it work. I put the pan on top of the rack to keep the pans off the actual wood stove surface or the bottom cooks too quickly and burns by the time the entire loaf is cooked. I do casseroles like homemade lasagna, enchiladas, meatloaf, baked chicken and other things using the upside down pan. If I need something “browned” on top, I put it into the wood stove for a few minutes, you have to babysit it and it will get a very small amount of ash on top but a little ash never hurt anyone! I wrap potatoes in foil and cook them in the stove and I have done that with chicken as well. I know it’s probably my imagination but I just seems like food tastes better when cooked like this. I do all my soups, beans pot roasts, etc…on the top of the wood stove and it works great. I even made homemade flour tortillas using a large cast iron skillet and they were awesome! I usually start beans the night before and let them cook overnight since we heat with this stove, it cooks all night. Using some “pioneer ingenuity” you can make things work outside of the original purpose. I have a propane grill that can be used but why bother if the wood stove is already going. One thing though, learning to cook and bake at a high elevation has been more of a learning curve than learning to cook on the wood stove!
Man I know envy is bad but damn! What a lovely setup you have created, 20x20 is plenty of livable space if you're organised and your stove pipe oven is very clever. Would definitely watch more content on this amazing little cabin

Ive had that truck 8 years now and hauled the whole camp there in it ...also hauled a side by side back and forth many times also ...still works great for an old thing :) even had 1.7 metric tonne of rock in the back ...thats 3600 lbs lol it has rear airbags and an onboard compressor :)

Nice cozy cabin with pretty much all the amenities oh home-hot water, shower, electricity, full size bed, tv, heat-even room in the loft for guests. Dont worry about shooting gear-upgrade when you can.
I loved your video! If you're place was mine, I would only change a few things; I would have a compost toilet, a treadle sewing machine, a dog and I would live there full time. It is beautiful! I am a new subscriber and look forward to seeing more videos.

When you get your siding on and loft wood ceiling in it will help with the temperature.....
That is true ...its easy to warm it up in there now so it will only get better :) I agree the ceiling finished will make a big difference and even the layer of shingles on the outside will add to r value also

Im on my 4th year traveling full time in my 25 foot class A winnebago warrior with my little dog Tinkerbell filming what I see, exploring abandoned buildings and places I camp for free. I use my smart phone too. Hopefully I can get better equipment someday but I think smart phones do a pretty good job.

I can believe his neighbors new snowblower, went out in 2 years. Everything they make today is junk!
I have often looked at those chimney ovens (they used to make and sell them for double walled chimneys but stopped last I checked) and wondered how well they work. So thanks for sharing yours! and it's cool you made it as well. As for driving into the cabin in the snow LOL I hear ya! After some 165 miles of highway and secondary roads I hit 3 miles of snow and ice until the last 1/2 mile or so when it gets deep! This last trip it was over two feet in spots...and my trip to the top for cell coverage? LOL ya, those 35inch tires tell the tale (hint: I made it just fine albeit slowly). Cheers from another cabin builder ;)
