- I update the KingSong S16 firmware which bricks the BMS. After weeks of frustration Roger is able to bring it back to life. Here is the journey.

As an S16 owner, I found this tutorial most illuminating.
I have updated the BMS firmware [via the Android app] two or three times, since I have had the wheel, and have had no issues thus far. I'll keep my fingers crossed 🤞
After all my issues with the s22 and now seeing your problems with the s16 I will never get another kingsong wheel again. I love all my Begode wheels 💪🏼 loved the shotgun sound affect too lol
My ks s16 BMS update was rough,, I got an email from ewheels telling me to update the BMS immediately because flawed firmware will make my cells go to zero rendering the battery useless, during the update it stopped twice, I had to restart,, eventually it went through and it updated to the latest BMS firmware 188 ,, I'm glad I didn't have to go through this
Falcon gets a leg up after seeing this 😳.
Thanks for callin it out for what it is
Learning about BMS and how the batteries are assembled, very important content to understand the manufactures and wheel. reset buttons pretty cool.
I know v11s have a reset button on the BMS too. I had the pleasure to fiddle inside them.
Before you dig into it, make sure you get what's called a "spudger" in the industry - the wooden tool (they come in various shapes) so you can feel, poke around, actuate, etc things in a non-conductive way. I just wanted to add that so when you are looking for tools you can get right to them (25+ years as an engineering technician in industry, IPC trained/certified debug/solder tech); it's an obscure name but that's exactly what it's called.
You can split up tongue depressors too but chopsticks are usually a bit fat unless you carve 'em. Spudgers be cheap and strong tho...
Gotway Goop! Unfortunately these days when trying to choose a new wheel Kingsong doesn't even come to mind anymore.
I wonder how much better/worse the F22 will be compared to the Epic S22
@@A-Viking I would take S22 frames without batteries, motors, shocks/coils in them; no idea what they're worth, so no idea what to pay, but still, even one would be cool. The only reason I don't tear mine apart is because it works; with just the mechanicals already emptied I can stuff it with whatever I want. The pedal height and tunability of the suspension are mostly the two big factors in that chassis for me (and I already have a guy from Igus bugging me again about fixing the sliders for good).
Hopefully a lot of S22 carcasses will become available for less cash when it finally drops...unless it becomes the F24 lol few people are gonna preorder new models of KS wheels again.
@russellzauner well Pioneers always get shot in the back :)
I do like mine for the same reasons too pedal height and big ass suspension
Thanks for the video!
yikes! I can imagine a new rider finally getting an EUC and doing a firmware update immediately and then....nightmare. That would likely be me.
You guys are rock stars.
Again Roger for the win 🫡
The S16 is a puzzling wheel, on the outside it looks like KS is upping their game, but after some use and disassembly, it clearly has a lot of vestiges of EUCs made 2-3+ years ago. It's like a pig with makeup. That's too bad, it seemed really promising.
I had the same issue with the BMS 1.85 and there was only one battery pack that had a problem so I reset the BMS only on the one that had a problem. Since I had tried to downgrade the BMS to 1.82 and it didn't do it on the BMS in problem so when the reset was done and the wheel was up, I had to do the firmware 1.82 install so that the 2 BMS were at the same version. The problem with the firmware is that in the Kingsong App, it tells you that a newer version exist and you can install or cancel the firmware update. But when you use an iPhone/iPad with the SoftTuner App, you can upgrade/downgrade any of the firmware but you see that those latest versions are beta versions, so I guess you don't ever upgrade a BMS to a beta version. I did the display firmware upgrade to get the right display that I wanted, speed on top with the battery life on the bottom. With older display firmware, you would only see the battery life when the wheel stoped.
I'm always nervous to do any firmware updates....and this is why
If it ain't broken ...
@@ElectricUnicycles With this mentality, no evolution would occur.
lol they put goop where they wanted a boot noice
took like 10min to update my s22 last time
I had this issue with my s16 pro. I kept tueing it off and on and leaving redownload again several times and after about 5 hours the erorr code was gone and it updated just fine. My experience with kingsongs software was waful and this js my first weel... not sure J
I want kingsong anymore. I lean more on inmotion as quality.
Roger hast to make a video course for us mere mortals
Which application did you update with? softtuner or kingsong?
You can reset BMS with soft tuner.
Don't forget the screen is 16x16. kingsong is fooling us
I was using Softtuner of course with instructions from KingSong
In summary, the BMS wasn't really bricked. I guess it did not fully finished updating the BMS and the wheel was disturbed probably by turning it off/on and failed to fully reboot. There was no trade secret, Roger even mentioned that he really didn't do anything on the wheel and he just updated the firmware using a different device and the BMS got updated. It's just like updating a smartphone, sometimes it will tell you that the phone will turn on and off several times and it's perfectly normal so don't disturb the process and wait for the update to complete.
I've updated lots of KingSong wheel firmware. It often hangs. I'd still be waiting if I didn't reboot the wheel :-)
Yes, of course there's no trade secret. I'm just having some fun with Roger :-)
@@ElectricUnicycles Cool 🤙
king song should really make a budget version of this....shaving of the stupid pads, speakers and all the stupid bling, bling, make the lcd smaller for godsake...something like on the v122....probably they will get to 1700 usd for this...we dont need stupid stuff.uneffective things....there will be a lot of room for good pads then...
my dad is the only guy in turkey that sels euc and he says dont update the latest update it brokes the censors of the wheel
Wait what? Did you say it's the 1st kinngsomg that you can update the firmware from the app? Surely I heard that wrong
I only update firmware if my wheel is under warranty.
First!!!
I could never do any of this. Straight avoid for me.
Another nail in the KS coffin. Mobo/batt removal seems a fair bit of work & not much fun plus this bms bricking OTA update dont inspire much confidence. KS is close to being dead to me but goodluck to others
I had a gotway which I had to strip down and after seeing the crap quality and hassle of trying to get the correct replacement board I vowed to never buy a gotway again so I bought the S16P. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. I wish these wheels were Japanese or German made, Chinese engineering has always sucked and software a last minute afterthought
see battery pack is not wrapped.😂
eesh... no thanks.
