  • Out in cinemas in the UK on 30th May is Tom Cruise's science fiction film, "Edge of Tomorrow". The Royal Air Force was asked to take part, to expertly land a Puma HC1 helicopter in the middle of Trafalgar Square, London! Here's some amateur video of the RAF Benson aircrew making a descent into the Square look easy...and of course Tom looking good. .

That was an awesome bit of flying. That short clip is almost better to watch than the bit in the film!

I know its all training plus positive PR but it still amazes me that you can rent the R.A.F lol.

LOVE the Puma...but call me a geek...whatever - and I'm not hating, I LOVE the RAF. Wanted to join as was at RAF Cranwell for Pilot Officer training until I had my medical and they told me I needed to wear glasses - gutted!... anyway, if this movie is set now(ish) why did the RAF lease out an aircraft type that's been in service for 46 years? Surely a Merlin would have been better PR?

+Krausey Music Lol as if a Merlin would fit into tight spaces like that

Andy YCY I've seen special forces pilots get in some pretty tight spaces. Merlin's only 5meters longer or so and the rotor width is only 3 meters difference or so. It's poor casting in my opinion ;-)

the raf also dnt have any Merlins for u to rent out cos they gave them to the Royal Navy and they are now part of the commando helicopter force. even if it fitted, the wash tho with 3 huge engines given London has hugely strict airspace even for helicopters
