The use of sedation in dentistry has revolutionized the way patients view dental visits. Patients who once were afraid or anxious about even the most routine dental procedures now visit the dentist with confidence. Sedation is typically administered to healthy individuals who need help relaxing or managing treatment anxiety. Reasons for needing sedation may include lengthy procedure times, dental phobias, or fear caused by negative experiences in the past.

👋 Anyone reading the comments about to have their surgery … let me explain my experience. ( I got them out 5 hours ago ) I WAS A NERVOUS WRECK before hand watching every video possible reading all experiences on reddit and comments on these videos from the good ones to the bad ones. I’ve been nervous since they told me last year they were coming in. It was a peice of CAKE for the people like me who have severe anxiety about medical stuff you will be just fine! I wasn’t worried about the recovery more so the surgery itself, and a little stressed about the IV ( i was put to sleep with IV sedation ) the IV was NOTHING me and the assistant were giggling and I was asking if I should watch him put it in or look away and he promised me it was nothing and maybe id enjoy watching it go in.. I looked away 😭 but it barley felt like anything, like a poke a tiny little prick. they put the thing on to check my blood pressure every 5 minutes and the thing on ur thumb along with some like patches they put on my lower side and chest. Sat there for about 30 minutes with the IV in my arm until the doctor was ready. He came in asked how I was lowered the chair down and put this thing on my neck to monitor my breathing I think he said,, and then he released THE GOOD ( the fluids into the IV ) it was a crazy experience.. like i was out but wasn’t ? all i last remember is seeing is the light and then within seconds it was done. I was so stressed for NOTHING. so glad I went with IV sedation because I didn’t feel a darn thing! 😂 and the loopyness afterwards ain’t all that bad either. I would definitely do it over again and take away all the stress from before because it was nothing.

For those of us who suffer from severe vasovagal syncope, allergies to epinephrine, and severe dental and needle phobia, I'd like to know what the protocol is for sedating someone who's already in syncope, or who goes in to syncope while sedated. My nightmare scenario is having my blood pressure fall through the floor, becoming dizzy, getting pins and needles, the cold sweats, and going 90% of the way to passing out before then being sedated or during sedation, and being aware in that moment of the absolute nightmarish shit hole than I'm in. I don't care if I don't remember any of it afterwards, I don't want to be aware of it at all.

I have a situation. I have went to the dentist to get my tooth remove but i felt pain so he proscribed me to a maxilofacial to get it out, but even with the anesthetic i felt pain. Now im going under iv sedation cuz i have a abscess in that area. Will i feel that horrible pain i felt two times? This is my last option.

I am 18 and just started brushing regularly for the first time a few months ago. I went two months ago to the dentist and he said my teeth were fine, no cavities but that I need to start flossing. I had some recession as well. I am already way behind the 8 ball and want to do everything I need to from now on but flossing feels impossible for me. I just can't get the floss in without snapping onto the middle I have tried but I have such a hard time I might be hurting my gums more than helping. Sorry I posted a loaded comment but I just have a lot I'm confused with. What would you recommend I do and is it realistic to believe I could keep my teeth into my 60s since I have some gum recession (no root exposure) and have been so lazy for so long?

Joseph R Nemeth DDS & Associates I watched the video and understand how to but I can only do it on some teeth others feel like there is no margin for error and that I can't get it down the sides of the gum but only the middle is there anything else like a water irragator i could use to substitute? I want to floss but I just suck at it. Thanks again

With IV sedation, it does take some time to regain normal awareness. Depending on the strength of the sedative, it may take anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours before you're back to normal.
