If you compare european countries you'll notice, that the farther north you get, the more quiet and less talketive people become.
Hey! we are very talkative and so. Provided you speak the language - and its not the dark time of the year. =)
Ragna Eyjadóttir yes, Iceland is an exception 😊. But go to northern Germany, think Friesland, you will find, they are very quiet. Moin is the greeting and if they have a very communicative day they say moin, moin. 😄
people from Spain: "Germans don't talk a lot and it's hard to get to know them :'("
people from Sweden: "I don't know what you are talking about."
:D
It depends to the weather: The colder it is, the less you would like to open your mouth....
I am from Flanders and people here think Germans in general are not very talkative. Not even Southern Germans.
We do think you guys are fun, though. Just not very talkative :)
When I was studying in France and visited Madrid, it was such a big shock at first. When strangers would greet me for no reason, I was totally confused.
I really love the way spanish people are able to communicate no matter which language the other person speaks. And the small talk is something that I really miss here in Germany. Just ordering a coffee can drive you to a really interesting conversation!
Dana being full of spirit can even chat with aliens after 5 minutes :)
hahahahahaha
As Spanish living in Spain:
- In Spain everything is later, we eat around 14 and have dinner normally between 21 or even 22.
- normally we do 5 meals: breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, merienda (i don't even know how to translate) and dinner.
-the diet, at least in my area is totally different we have Mediterranean diet. More salad, fish, rice... And of course good precious olive oil xD
- yes in general we are more into small talk.
- the different thing between Bavarian and Catalan is that the first is considered a dialect of German and the second is considered an official language from the country like Gallego, Vasc, Valenciano even though they are spoken only in specific areas from the country. We have of course dialects which are not considered like official languages
- People is normally shorter in Spain hahaha no offense . Now I am in my city for the holidays and I am totally surprised how small the people is.
And I guess they are many more...
Hello Inma.. I will travel to Spain this days and i don't know anyone there.. Can we talk to give me advices please 😊
There is no evidence that Spaniards are shorter than Germans! Both are generally White folks of varying heights.
@@spiritofdixie2389 It's warm in Spain. No need for them being big
Excited to see more taste tests from you Dana! ^_^
Ein sehr interessantes Video dana💕deine videos sind immer sehr interessant
I'm from Zaragoza :) I hope you guys enjoyed your trip!
In my Humble expirience all people are very warm and welcoming as soon as you try to speak their language
But she has learned German!
Some people. But most Germans especially older Germans, keep to themselves and don’t say hi or smile in public to strangers, let alone small talk lol. my husband is German and lived in the US for 15 years before returning back to Germany and he noticed how unfriendly/social Germans are.
I hope you planned on getting some fotage of the trip and sharing it in the form of a short vlog for us? Pretty please?
yeah, the regular intro
the good thing about driving around Europe is standardized road signs. While names of places might be spelled differently, all traffic signs that manage traffic use pictograms instead of words.
your program is great
Well Catalan and Bavarian is not really comparable since Catalan is a language and Bavaria is simply a dialect. Catalan in Spain is more like French that is being spoken is some parts of Canada.
Si, pero prácticamente donde reside la mayor parte de la población de Cataluña, está muy influenciado el Catalán por el Español, y se parece muchísimo más al Español de Madrid, que al francés. Soy de Barcelona.
Catalan is close to French of course because they're both Romance languages but it is no where nearer to French than it is to Spanish, but it is closer to French than to Bavarian German I'll give you that one haha
italy, Spain, Germany
Germany ?
@@fablb9006 Yes
Why’s that?
Afraid Spain is not Europe
@@Welhem5492 by chance the civilization of Europe was formed in Spain and southern Europe, the northern areas were pagan tribes Europe is only Spain, the rest is a conquered land
52% of Catalonia speaks Spanish as a mother language, 36% speaks Catalan, 3% galician, 3% arabic, 6% other languages.
Granada ! What a beautiful city.
My mom is from Spain, so the half of my family too. We travel to Spain each year to visit them and I always love it! I seriously like the Spanish culture way more than the German culture. I'm so in love with Spain and I feel so lucky to call it my second home!😍🇪🇸
You definitely should travel to Andalusia (Andalucía) someday (that's where my family is from).
There are so many beautiful places like Chipiona, Jerez de la Frontera, Sevilla, Málaga, Cádiz, Córdoba and more. It's so amazingly beautiful there!😍
OK to come back to your question, there are several dialects in Spain. Like you said, in Catalonia they speak Catalán but there are others like Andaluz in Andalusia, Galician in Galicia, Castellano (which is not a dialect actually but the official language in Spain) and so on.
And Vasco in the north 😊
Thankyou lauda and i love spain too
I know it's a long shot, but have you guys ever been to Frankenthal, Germany? I just found out recently I have ancestors (well, 1800s) from there. I know at one point it was part of the Bavarian Republic, but is it more culturally Bavarian or its own thing? Just curious if you know. I haven't been able to find much online on the topic.
When the Roman Empire dominates part of Europe, her language, the latin is speak in roman territories, when the roman empire fall, the latin language evolve in different languages in the old roman territories, french in France,Italian in Italy, romanian in Romania, and in the Iberian Peninsula,(actually contents two countries,Spain and Portugal),the latin evolve in four languages, portuguese in Portugal, and in Spain, galician, spanish and catalan.Germany is not part of roman empire,in the romans time, the north of Europe is the barbarian territories,(no conquered by Rome)
Germanic and latin Countries in Europe are actually from distinct civilisation. The only thing that really glue Europe is having a christian heritage (and even then , most of northern Europe tend to be protestant, which differs latin and catholic countries,
@@fablb9006 There is one other glue that tends to bind them, at least Post-Colombo, and that's the fact that 99.99% of all West Eurasians are White. The modern concept of White superiority and elitism started in Spain and filtered over to other White nations, which became most entrenched in the Big Five Colonizers - Spain, Portugal, France, Britain, and the Netherlands. It later spilled over into Germany and then other White nations to a smaller degree. I'm not here to bash Whites for anything or to blame Whites for slavery and all that crap. I'm just describing a physical fact that most all Europeans by head count share to varying degrees.
Occitan, Galician, Catalonian, Sicilian, and a few other Italic (i.e. Latin) languages also exist.
Where was the photo at 0:39 taken? It looks familar
I visited Barcelona a couple of years ago. I saw all POIs. But I missed the Fried egg chips. 😭
*chuckles* go to the UK and enjoy more interesting flavors of crisps :) prawn cocktail … spring onion … salt & vinegar. Only 1 of the 3 is in a German supermarket, spring onion you might find in a polish shop if you have one nearby, prawn cocktail in my experience is a non starter here.
Small chat is absolutely a thing that myself and a friend have experience. I’m from Ulster and she lives in Ireland. Both of us really struggle with how little Germans want to do small talk. Barely even Good Morning / how ya doing.
Catalan is a language spoken in Catolonia which is a region in Northeastern Spain and Bavarian is a dialect of German spoken in Bavaria
Did you try the ham and egg at the same time...breakfast chips...
Did you meet any German speaking Spaniards...I understand German is a popular second language...
Keith Duncan In my city, Bremen, there are a lot! But it really depends on the city, I think.
Jan Rullmann
Ham taste potato chips are very common in most countries. At least your can buy them in the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. I think they are available in Germany, too, by the brand "Lay's"? But "fried egg" sounds Spanish to me ;)
While comparing Catalonia and Bavaria actually does make a lot of sense, comparing languages is not as easy. As many others already pointed out, Catalan is a language of its own - in contrast to Bavarian which is a dialect (unlike Low German, for example). Catalan developed directly from (vulgar) Latin and nowadays is closer to French than to Castilian Spanish. Barcelona itself is much more Spanish than the rest of Catalonia - comparable to Munich which is more German than the rest of Bavaria. Due to immigrants from the rest of the country, international companies and tourists those important cities become less influenced by the regional culture and language.
it's known that mediterranean people are more talkative , make a lot of gesture while talking , are loud and expressive ... :3
Which Country is good to immigrate ? Spain or Germany
yesss!!!
ham...spain wins this one
Lays ham flavoured are available here. Fried egg I haven't seen yet - and wouldn't try.
Ruffles Jamón are THE BEST!
Hi dana es wäre schön wenn du in deinen Videos die deutsch Übersetzung aktivierst da ich nicht so gut Englisch kann und deine Videos gerne ansehe. In manchen Videos ist es ja aktiviert.
Und mach weiter so.
Bavarian is "only" a dialect of High German with some subdialects - Catalan is an own language like Low German. But of course Politics plays a huge role why you can see Catalan signs at all places in Barcelona - and why English is even placed before Spanish (or Castillian as Catalan Nationalists would say).
So interesting, could you compare Italy with Germany?
Bavarian is just one of many german dialects, but Catalan is a totally different language from spanish (like english and scottish)
This is a difficult comparison :) Because some people consider Scots a dialect of English, while others consider it a language in its on right. With Catalan there is no such ambiguity, everyone consideres it a language.
Xaver Lustig I am sorry. I was referring to the gaelic language that is (or rather was ) spoken in Scotland. Just like welsh it has no relation to english.
+sphhyn In that case I have to disagree even stronger :). Catalan is not a "totally different" language from Spanish, it is very very close. They are both Romance languages descended from Latin, and are mutually comprehensible to an extent. Of course Catalan is also mutually intelligible with Italian (even French?) to an extent, because they share the same Latin heritage.
Catalan and Spanish is very very similar and the connotation between dialect and language has been made by the governments, the Spanish government has recognized the Catalan and Basque as languages and the same both languages are recognized by the French government as dialects. Maybe the Spanish government should do that for avoid the issues that we are having now.
@@victorinbhx7982 Wtf Basque is one of the oldest lenguages of europe is more older than indoeuopeans lenguages XD and catalan hasnt nothing in common with spanish has common things with othee lenguage from spain like Valenciano. Its like say that Gallego (other lenguage of spain) is like portuguese. And even in south france they speak basque and in andorra catalan.
Wait, you don't have barbecue ham chips in Germany? That's a pretty common flavour in the Netherlands.
So do you prefer Germany or Spain living wise?
Lays has been experimenting with a lot of weird chip-flavours lately (in the USA). Ham isn't bad, but of the odd ones, I prefer roast beef or BLT. Dill pickle is too vinegar-y.
There is Fanta orange and Fanta citron in spain. Orange is very good. In Germany you can only find one middle sort.
Nedra007 we have different kinds of fanta and the standard one is orange.
that is not true.
in Germany we have Fanta Orange and Fanta Zitrone as well.
The former is the regular, more common kind.
The latter is rarer, but you can find it in large stores.
There's also Fanta strawberry and Fanta mango
Zaragoza, not your typical tourist spot. I studied there, any special reason to go there?
Differences: Calimocho: Coke with wine..., hours of business and the time to eat, in Germany there are no corridas de torros
I have no idea what fried eggs should taste like? Is there a german word or have I missed the point? ;-)
The difference between Spain and Germany on November 18 2020 is 6 goals to nil
I too have tried ham flavored potato chips. Once. Which was enough...
In Italy, restrooms need to be free of charge - by law. Maybe it's the same in Spain.
Gaby Chaudry no it's not. It's normal that restrooms are free in Spain but there is no law and in some few places is starting to be mandatory to pay to use it
hi your clock is stuck 1.10 am or pm needs a battery
My name is Dana too! And I live in Germany 🇩🇪 lol
I would compare Catalan to South french and Bavarian to Basque
Bavarian is a dialect, not an official language like catalan....
Nice video! Actually, there is a law in Catalonia, that every sign, every menu etc. has to be written in Catalan. You can also add the same information in Spanish or English, but Catalan is obligated. This is because Catalan has been forbidden by Franco during the civil war, so now the Catalans don't want to loose it.
Well, Catalan is a unique language, so it makes sense.
Bavarian is officially a dialect of German and even Bavaria as a state officially says that German is their only language, so all signs and documents etc are given out in standard German.
That's right, I forgot to write that
wiseguysfanjojo And now Franco's official political party has forced the Catalan president to flee his own country and somehow made their old German allies arrest him as he was travelling from Sweden to Belgium!
@@Nutzername92a Catalan is not a unique language, that would go the Basque.
@@JuanLopez-rl7ry You're overinterpreting the word "unique"... I wasn't saying that Catalan isn't related to anything else. All I was saying is that Catalan IS a *language* - as opposed to Bavarian, which is NOT considered a language.
There are ham-flavoured chips in Germany. I can't remember the name though because I don't like them. Just knew them because someone else bought them for a party... ^^;
U have to try "pipas" next time
Hmmmm .. Spain is much much better than Germany ... that is a fact of 💯 %

I never stopped to think that ham flavored chip aren't a thing outside of Spain. In my opinion, meh. Although they are popular and haven't been around forever. But the huevo frito ones, I'd say are more for tourists.
One difference I noticed between Germany and Spain is that the milk cartons come in less than 1 liter in Germany. I never seen that in Spain. I have never had to pay to use the bathroom in Spain.
Well, right now I can't think of anything else so if anyone has any questions...
Leo Cat yeah, I never thought that paprika chips might not be a thing outside of Germany either 😄
But don't you sometimes have the cleaning lady have a plate for some money outside of the toilet? That's more or less the same, just that some German toilets have it mandatory
the standard size of a milk carton in Germany is indeed 1 liter.
you'll find different sizes, but 1 liter is by far the most common.
Nope, the cleaning ladies in Spain just clean, they don't collect money. I find it very awkward to be in the bathroom doing my 'business' with a lady just outside who may be hearing me.
Yep, what I meant to say is that in Spain I never seem smaller sizes.
Lmao did u study in Granada? I'm actually studying architecture here
Hi
Just a question? You know that best probably. Why are a lot of US policemen triggerhappy sadistic idiots? Shooting people in the back , tasering a 85 year old woman. Behaving like diktators. That's just a little sample. And then a chief who doesn't fire those idiots but protects them. Like your films though. I hope to see a lot more of them.
Aw, never been to Spain.
Bc bavarian is still german, just dialect. While catalan is a different language than spanish
a friend of mine was in spain and she told me that the water tasted sweet (like regular water with nothing but added sugar) but she couldn't read anything on that bottle (since she can't speak spanish). Is this a thing in spain?
Absolutely not. We are just used to drink normal water with no other treatment than the required by law to be able to drink it without getting an illness. Maybe your friend is used to drink fizzy water like I think people in Germany does.
Sei ned so hoaglig (6:43). To say something in Bavarian.
Is it fair to say German public bathrooms and generally a better standard to Spain, prob because you pay?
There so many differences between german and spain, like weather, food, breaches, friendly people in spain but you can't find these all things in germany
Yes you can
Either potato chip would be good on top of a burger
Bavarian is only a dialect while catalan is nearly a different language. There is not much similarity to spanish
3rd????
Bavarian is a dialect, Catalan is a language.
But Dana is a german name...
Bavarian is not a written language.
Some people like to write it.
Liebe Dana, Bayerisch ist nur ein Dialekt. Keine andere Sprache. Katalanisch schon.
First :D
It annoys the shit out of me when she said "Catalon" rather than "Catalan"
Some random observations:
Free museums etc on sundays in Spain but no audio guides. This means they can keep places open for tourists with almost no people working.
Hummus chips!!!!!!!!! in Spain. Love it!
Each living block in a Spanish city has one or two small supermarkets, whereas in Germany there are fewer, bigger and cheaper supermarkets and much more to choose from.
I think there is one law in Spain that keeps this small supermarkets: if they’re smaller than 300m^2, they are allowed to open on Sundays
A lot of Catalans don't consider themselves as Spanish people
Well, I am Catalan and also Spanish, of 7 million Catalans, 2 million do not want to be Spanish.
You're from Florida! Shouldn't you speak at least some Spanish?
Obviously she does but out of modesty she lowers down that skill of hers.
Germans don't do a lot of small talk? Good. They don't waste a lot of mental energy.
Germans are very serious, and in the east of the country they look like robots...
Right now to compare Spain with germany is laughable..spain is a caricature of country even it is not a country....and may be in the next 2 or 3 years will be less country.til its extinction

Spain is the best country, but real Andalusian Spain, like Sevilla, Málaga or even the Valencia area that speaks almost like catalán. Germans are almost all square heads saying "ja genus" all day long and saluting with the Hitlergruss. LOL! Catalans are considered to be the Jews of Spain and in fact there are a lot of them living there. Since their illegal referendum, they are not loved in Spain, but not all Catalans were in favour of a separation, it was only a minority.
