- Today at the Detroit show, I focused in on the vintage and hard to find kits for the swap meet video. I hope that you enjoy the selection. Some of the really old stuff was super cool to see for sale.

oh man look at all them vintage pontiacs i need
Some of those really old AMT kit must have lot of miles on them from going to shows over and over again. Amazing that they have survived this long.
What’s worse? Traveling from show to show or sitting in a dusty basement? Lol
What a price range Form 15 to 250. Lots of luck at that show!
Me likie!!! Thanks James.
I was there, didn't see you. Great video, saw a kit on your video that I must have missed or I would have bought it.
what an event to be at! wish i were there
You missed a good one. Plenty more coming up in the next few months. I’ll be there shooting more video.
I remember back in the 60s seeing 75% of those exact models for two dollars. Some only $1.49. Boy times sure have changed. Boy I miss those days. I wish I could’ve bought them all up then! I’d be a millionaire.😊
Only if you didn’t build them… hehe
I LOVE LOVE THEM ALL...DETROIT!!!
thanks for taking us along..them cool old chevy trucks caught my eye
They will never sell most of them. Cool to see them though.
Thanks for sharing James. Man, there was some really cool stuff there. Always is at these shows. It’s fun to get a look at what the vendors had on offer.
Thanks for showing us!

Really cool. 👍
Thanks for another 'marketplace' video James, always great to see such kits as mostly I had never seen before. Or even heard of! I could notice quite a variety of prices too. Thanks again 👍🏼
Not many foreign kits there, mostly old American ones
Awesome video
Another great video!,lots of great vintage kits, again i would've spent a fortune if i was there!.
I'd be broke if I was there James 😂❤
The key is to bring only the amount of cash you want to spend and leave the credit cards at home. :)
dou great vid thx i think my tongue was hangin out from the johan display till the end 😁🤩😋scooter😎going in the archives now 4 chur 😅🤣
Glad you enjoyed the video Scooter 👍
Awesome video, James! Wish I could have made it out there again! I saw a few kits I wish I had in your video! Then I think about all the kits I all ready have 😆 🤣
Very cool makes me sick I used to buy Jo han kits at Carlisle for 5 bucks when I was a teenager
A lot of cool kits at reasonable prices.
This is not Walmart! Shame it has to be said like that but seems that is what we have come to expect from buyers.
Really want that Mustang II Python kit. Nothing else really jumped at me in this one. Awesome to browse but I think I would have saved some funds.
James it nice to meet you down there and talk. Great coverage very fun show.
Likewise, thanks for the conversation 👍
Great vendor area video. James, It was nice to meet you in person. Craig 🐭 👍
Likewise Craig, thanks for the conversation 👍
I hate watching these shows. So many kits there that I would like to buy. LOL. Thanks for sharing, Ron
Thanks for sharing this with us!! I appreciate you and other YT model content creators taking us along on your journey and taking us to shows. This is not a criticism just a suggestion....when you guys are @ shows with vendors, it would be cool if yall would get the vendor's contact info for us @ home viewing. I counted 11 kits that I would definitely purchase and I only started counting ~ halfway through this video. Tks for all you do for the modeling community.
Haha most times the vendors are grumpy and don’t even want me filming.
Some of those sellers are dreaming.
They haggle. I think they purposely put high prices on them hoping you either pay it or at least offer what it's worth. I didn't pay "sticker" price for anything I bought except a $5 bagged kit.
lots of old kits vintage AMT spray paint-etc.
😎👍
😊 where was this show ?!?!? im here !
Hi Eric, this show was at the Malcolm County sports expo center.
I was a little disappointed in the marketplace this year, James. Buyer beware seems to be the name of the game with model kits at shows so far this year, I fear. Quite a few sellers this year are "testing" to see if they could get 3X what they asked for last year in Detroit. If they asked $15 last year, they asked $40 this year. Johan kits were pricey last year, not surprising there, but this year there were AMT kits priced over $100, a few even over $200. I even saw one guy with a $60 price tag on an AMT "Wild Hoss" Ford Bronco kit that was available elsewhere in the room for $20, and the same kit is still currently available at Hobby Lobby for $28 list less their 40% discount ($16.80). Most of the low-priced kits seen at Detroit this year were "open box", meaning unsealed to those who don't know, and we have no idea if all the parts are inside or not when the wrapping is gone - without going through everything inside against the build instructions. A few sellers were reasonable, but it took a lot of walking around to find those sellers. And I saw a lot of sellers packing up and leaving an hour before the show closed. I got the feeling high prices kept sales down.
I was disappointed too. There were a few empty tables (halfway through the show). Also, there were so many tables with just matchbox / hotwheels / diecast cars only or stuff unrelated to model kits. It seemed like at least half if not more were that way. One model kit seller seemed annoyed he wasn't selling much and told everyone who walked by to make an offer. The November swap meet was so much better.
I’m super cheap so I shop for opened but sealed inside kits. I spent $50 on 2 kits - one Revell and one Tamiya. Most of us have a stash that will outlive us but yet we always want more. Then when it comes time to thin the herd it’s time to make money I guess.
I think that was a toy show, not necessarily a model car show. Toledo used to be the same way.
I didn't mind looking at some of the toy tables, however, it made me wish I hadn't given away a lot of the toys I had as a kid! The real reason I was there was to see the model car display/competition. That was well-worth the $5 admission price.
@@rayrussell6258 I think of it this way… those are all toys that didn’t get played with in the dirt left outside and run over with the mower. Hehe
I've watched quite a few of these videos lately and I'm not seeing any resin vendors anymore.
Hi Scott, I think the resin casters we used to have are all retiring. Resin 3d print is now booming.
I'm trying to find info about the Akron model show, to pass along to Grandpa Mark's channel.
Do you have anything, James?

@@ScaleModelExperiment thanks!
They should really have something on youtube if they want to get the message out. I couldn't get anything in my internet browser using "Akron model car show 2024" other than 1:1 car shows in the area, not even any facebook links. Thanks again.
Lookking for 1963 ford fairlane amt craftsman kit a built up. Or hood and grille are needed thanx 😢
Thanks for this. How do I find out if there's one of these coming to my city? Is there a schedule or anything that could tell me?
There is a forum on the model cars magazine site that lists upcoming shows.
@@ScaleModelExperiment Thanks!
I'd love to get a couple of kits during my Campervan travels, and want to know where these shows are whilst on the road... Can you guys help me?
The only place I know of is the model cars forum that has a calendar of shows.

A suggestion to help those of us with problematic vision in one form or another: rather than panning your camera in slow, wide circles, causing motion blur that eviscerates clear imagery, could you please hold in place every three metres or so (round 10 feet)? Or whatever your breadth of field encompasses.
Then give us perhaps 20-30 seconds? This way, we viewers may peruse the kits without the haze obscuring names, kit makers, stock numbers, etc. I personally would give each pause a full minute; the video would be longer, but your viewers would be grateful for your clearer videography. Please and thank you.
Thanks for your comment David I’ll work on that.
@@ScaleModelExperiment , thank you kindly, sir.
