    The amazing "unsung" talent is Frank Oz. When it comes to character voices Frank Oz actually had more to his credit than Jim Henson. He was Fozzy, Miss Piggy, Sam Eagle, Animal, he was Yoda in Star Wars and Aughra and Chamberlain in the Dark Crystal, he was Bert, Cooke Monster and Grover, plus many minor characters in the Muppet movies, the Muppet Show, and Sesame Street - the list is huge, beside the fact that Frank Oz also played several (living) character rolls in several movies like The Blues Brothers, Superman III, and a bunch of others.

    • @michaelvessel4604
      @michaelvessel4604 Před 4 lety +15

      Not to mention that Oz is also a really competent director as well, since he directed The Muppets Take Manhattan and co-directed The Dark Crystal with Jim Henson, as well as classics such as Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and What About Bob?, and he even has directed more overlooked comedies like Bowfinger and Death at a Funeral. He definitely is an extremely talented man, that's for sure.

      It's like Walt Disney with Mickey Mouse. Just like how "When You Wish Upon a Star" is the anthem to Disney what "Rainbow Connection" is to the Muppet properties (Sesame Street, The Muppet Show / Muppet Babies / Muppets Tonight / the.muppets, Fraggle Rock, &c). In the same manner, "(It's Not Easy) Bein' Green" is to The Frog what "The Mickey Mouse Club Alma Mater: The Mickey Mouse Club March" is to The Mouse.

      There’s a big difference in puppeteering and ventriloquism. Due to the nature of how they filmed, all sets being on elevated platforms, it didn’t make a difference whether they knew how to perform proper ventriloquy. If you haven’t seen anything from behind the scenes of
      Sesame Street or the Muppet show it’s quite fascinating I would definitely check it out

    To quote a book i read long ago on this subject. "The audience isnt the only ones that need to believe the puppet is real"
    One of the most important things in puppetry is to understand that your puppet isnt just a puppet. From the moment that you give them a voice and a personality, that puppet is wholely an entirely different being. This is why puppeteers generally hold their puppets to such a high regard. Because should anything happen to them, its almost like losing a friend.
    This is also why Kermit in this video looks, acts, and feels like a whole different person. He acts like a person, moves like on, etc, even if youre looking at Jim while hes making kermit talk, instinctively, you want to look at Kermit instead. And its entirely because he is treated like another person, even by his puppeteer.

    The tap dancing bit and others like it, where something is happening just below camera and the Muppets are doing something with their feet or at foot level, but you KNOW they don't have feet and you KNOW what's actually down there is a puppeteer, but you absolutely believed they were dancing or stomping or jumping or whatever... it's magical. EDIT: I also wanna mention how much I love that people always, ALWAYS reply to the muppet who's talking, not to the puppeteer.

    Holy shit, did I just figure out how POGO came up with his name, or was that a total coincidence? I literally just finished listening to Muppet Mash by Pogo before this video came on.

      Pogo was a comic book character in the newspapers. A little muskrat or something in a swamp kind of like Kermit

    March 1 1990? Oh, this must have been 2 months before Jim Henson died.

    In the hands of Jim Henson Kermit is a REAL. Jim never professed to be a ventriloquist; he didn’t need to, Kermit was so real that you never even looked at Jim when Kermit was talking.

  • @GameOverTFGCoDChannelxboxone

    When you think about it Jim doesn't really look like the person to think up and do the voice of a sensational Green frog >3 Jim and Kermit
