Efoiling is similar to my favorite sport - lounge chairing.
Attach a chair, and you are set!
It’s a LOT harder than it looks. If you think you just stand on it, you couldn’t be more wrong. He actually mentions this briefly in the video.
@@Fluterra well obvious, you have to balance and guide yourself with your body.
😂😂😂😂😂
Oooh burn !😂
I love pumping long distances too.
Put this in the category of things that look fake. So incredible.
Efoiling is easily the best way to learn to foil and opens the door to FoilWorld which is an amazing place. I learned on an efoil and used it to get into wingfoiling which I find so much more satisfying as there’s so much more challenge involved for a former windsurfer/surfer/snowboarder. My wife doesn’t have that background and LOVES efoiling.
Everybody needs to hire one at least once!
I couldn't agree more, Geoff. I hosted Aidan at my house a few weeks ago. Once he got flying out of the water, I could see his instinct kick in. He was amazingly comfortable and looked great on a foil. No doubt it's a great way to learn! I'm so glad you and your wife can share efoiling. How cool.
I hear you, Mike. My lake just doesn't have the wind either, which had impeded me learning how to hand wing.
Indeed, that is my strategy. I also have a windsurfing and kiteboarding background. I think I will love wing foiling better then e-foiling. Plus $13k is much more than a wing rig (now about $2k). My next purchase will be an inflatable wing board so i can wing anywhere I travel to. You cannot bring an e-foil with you on a plane.
this is something else, hope you guy's get the success you want here in boracay, so inspired by the efforts and passion to this new sports activity in boracay...
Excellent video review! As always, thorough and fair. Just watching your video makes me want to get on the water. Can’t wait for my next foil session on our new Lift equipment.
Thank you! You must be having a blast this summer. Loving seeing your family at “work.” You guys are living your best life. I hope you’re well.
Excellent video!! Thanks 😁
Looks super fun.. can't wait to try it!
It's a blast! Let me know if I can ever help!
Great video! I actually tried an E-foil last spring and it was a blast! My question is, how did you get the video shot starting at 5:19? That's a sick shot and btw a great overall edit!
Just a go pro on a selfie stick. I’m slowly learning how to improve these shots. Thanks so much for the compliment, Billy!
Very helpful demo and explanation about the differences.
Not really. He showed pump foiling. Not wing foiling or prone foiling… just one type as if pumping was all there is.
Another great video. Well done 👍🏻
Thank you Bruce. Means a lot.
Efoil takes a long time to master. That is part of the fun. My Fliteboard has been working for years. Never any problem.
Brother you’ve convinced me. This is the year I start to hydrofoil
Yono! It's truly an amazing feeling. If I can help you in any way, please let me know. wakethief@icloud.com
Classic foil seems like a serious engineering challenge. Im keen to see the future designs
Awesome! Thanks for checking us out … and please stay tuned. 2022 will be a wild ride!
I have a foil drive gen 2 attached to my masts which is a good way to get used to new boards or foils that I’ll use for wing or prone foiling. I can efoil around with it too, though my local lake community just banned efoils.
Thanks!!!
Great video, great channel, great info❤️ Fom 🇲🇾

Nice video thank you
Foiling technology makes you fly over the water and the efficiency is the key to electrify #watersport ❤
Great video. your voice is therapeutic and very relaxing to listen to, especially with such music.. Same as efoiling on the lake, it's like yoga on water, very calm experience. However I challenge you also to try Lift or Flite in the waves in the ocean. It's a completely new, very challenging and very rewarding experience, especially with a folding prop or true glide prop. Next week i'll post a Lift 3 review about the folding prop. cheers!
Thank you. I’m a subscriber and fan of your channel. This means a lot coming from you. I can’t wait to see your review. We will be trying a Lift v3 with folding prop. Ted & Aidan have a v3 arriving soon and we hope to share our experience. I have never classic foiled in the ocean. Embarrassing to share this. I look forward to efoiling and classic foiling in the ocean. I also haven’t hand winged. So much still to learn and do, which I’m thrilled about! This sport has so much to offer. Thanks for the comments and I look forward to your video.
@@WakeThief cheers. Well said, this foiling sport is very exciting and has a lot of progressions! Lets keep riding!
Great video ?😂
Check out Clayisland, great foil content as well
agreed!
When you fall for example on a foil that you have to pump, do you have to swim all the way back to shore with the bored to start pumping again or is there a way to pump start mid water? Curious on how these work I’ve honestly fell inlove with both and definitely planning on saving for one in the future!
Thanks for the comment, Rubeany! Unfortunately, it’s a long swim home, unless it’s an efoil (provided battery didn’t run out).
Iiiiiiiiioi
Lets be honest the price of these things puts them outside the realm of possibilities for 99% of the population. $15,000 US for the Lift3 ??? I could buy a Seadoo and a fishing boat for that price.
Whys it so expensive
Thanks for shearing, beautiful
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, Pedro.
I've always wondered how well these handle in choppy water. Our local lake is glass in the early morning hours but by noonish it gets very windy.
It’s more fun on glass but will work on choppy water too.
It is still glassy under the water!

Nice!
We Kiteboard and almost everyone has a foil for lite wind days, The Crazy Price is the Efoil problem and they look like they could get a bit boring after awhile but lots of fun at first Im sure
Thank you for a great video,Which wing did you try on Lyft please in what’s your feedback
200 Classic wing. I've tried the 200HA and 250HA for regular foiling. This was a nice wing for sure, but I don't have enough expertise on efoil wing performance and didn't try enough lift wings to have a perspective I'm proud of. Please reach out to lift for a retailer. Aidan and Ted can be reached at ADKEFOIL@gmail.com I'm positive they can help!
Nice review!
Thank you. That is super high praise from a credible channel like yours. I really appreciate the comment. I'm an efoil newbie and have a lot to learn from your channel and others.

Please try out the new Fanatic Aero High Aspect 2000... I could imagine that it's even better than the Axis 1150. Great Content by the way!
Thanks Heinz. Good to hear from you. I’ll check it out!
This looks so fun but way more expensive than I expected. Hopefully the technology will eventually become more affordable.
Yes. Please stay tuned. We will be trying some budget efoil a this year.

How much is a basic set up?
@Cultivatedneurosis links in description. $6-$12k for efoil. $1-$3k for classic foil
Really glad you landed on that particular conclusion, as I am taking the opposite of your journey. Got about 30-40 hrs on my efoil, but finally going to learn dockstart pumpfoiling this August. Super stoked, especially since watching your videos! Expectations: Less zen, more fun of mastery of technique, more dopamine from the work-out.
Find it odd that the heavy efoil was as easy to turn as regular foil, but then again that could be your Axis HA foil vs low-aspect efoil that really was compared. Or it could be mass is so centered on efoil that difference in foot-pressure is marginal. Did you compare on quick rail-2-rail too, not just single turn maneuvers?
Hi Sven. Lets please keep in touch. I suspect I can learn a lot from your journey. Yes, I am riding large wingspan wings which had as much roll resistance as the smaller efoil wings. Great point! I think you're right, though. Small movements have less roll resistance on a regular foil because you can introduce yaw with your back foot as you then roll wing to carve, while I couldn't do this on an efoil as easily due to the thrust driving you in forward direction. I think I should make a video comparing that point. Thanks for bringing it up!
@@WakeThief So here is the end result from dock starts:
Naish 2140(projected surface) HA (5.4 AR), 310HA rear wing, 75cm mast, 60cm fuse
BW 215lbs
200 attempts split on 10 days.
Best attempt had me at about 7-8 pumps before I stalled. I can only blame my lack of pumping technique, though it would probably have been easier with an even bigger foil.
The dock had giant bars on the sides which made it impossible to do any running start, so I was forced to do a stationary start. No calm water, and some undercurent made it harder on several of the days.
Got a family member to film a couple of my attempts for every session to check where I could improve my technique or whether I made any progress. On my best attempts I could feel the glide from a couple of my pumps, but the margin of error is so small I could not keep it up .
On a sidenote: The guy doing the filming was a skateboarder with no foiling experience, but at 170lbs I thought he would have a massive advantage on both bw and boarding skils, but alas, after about 10 failed attempts he was not motivated to keep grinding!
As I had not mastered the pumping technique prior to these attempts, I failed to complete my goal for the summer, but I am (still) super stoked about foiling. Next step is learning winging and hopefully master the pumping technique.
Please send me some vids. Happy to help diagnose as best I can. Wakethief@icloud.com

rent Lift in San Diego a few times now. I bought (Australia boost - my brain is mush and I forget - 'edrive'?), anyway I bought it end of last season. (small lake in nepa) and played with it with my 5mm. even with 5mm I was afaid of a cardiac issue in front of my daughters, so I didn't play long. very excited to get this season going and hopeful get better at wing foiling (the goal). I don't think I can pump at my age but would love to ride the wakes. btw get Evolve Bamboo GTR AT... great fun carving... just trying to find an airline friendly battery for my daughters and I during layover. I enjoy your videos. great work, great editing, great info!
Thanks so much for your kind words. Are you think foil drive? We really enjoyed it last year. A great balance between what we love with efoiling and classic foiling, blended into one. If I can ever help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Wakethief@icloud.com
Very cool review mate. Would be great if Waydoo could hook you up with an e-foil to try as well, given they are a very popular e-foil for the consumer at a more accessible price point (the Hyundai of the e-foil world, compared with the BMW and Mercedes of e-foil world). Keep up the great work mate!
Thank you. I'm working hard to get a Waydoo right now. Appreciate the comment.
@@mikeb1039 I'm not sure what you refer to? We ride the second generation boards from Waydoo and it is well known that they are less noisy than the Fliteboard and I can promise you, our speeds meet (and have exceeded once or twice) the advertised speed, run time, the same story (often longer than advertised for Gen 2 boards). No known motor failures in second generation boards, and the bent mast you refer to is the long mast from the first (kickstarter) boards, which are no longer available. Good news though, is customers who had product failures from the first generation Waydoo boards have all received second generation replacement parts.
Thanks for the great video. Any thoughts on which you would recommend…Flite vs Lift?
Both were great. I think there’s pros and cons and since this video has been released each have improved their product (new Flite controller). With my son being the main user, I liked the inherent safety features that Flite has included in their design.
@@WakeThief Thanks!
Thanx for the excellent video, i started foilen with efoils from lift. Now sice 5weeks i am learning dockstart & pumping, and it is eben more addictive, greetings from germany

As someone who grew up riding old school jet ski's, including a stand up ski, I'd absolutely love to give one of these things a try. It's really too bad that they're insanely expensive. I could buy a new jet ski (heck, two or three used ones) for the price of one of these boards. I can't help but feel that they should probably be a fifth the price that they are.
I hear you. Perhaps a lesson at a nearby school / demo center is a good start … or keep an eye out and see if you can get to know whoever is flying by! On our lake we’ve had 10+ friends and neighbors flying
Economies of scale will make them more affordable over time. OG jet skis were more expensive than ski boats.
Oh no.
Home was Hawaii. Surfing, all manner of water sports, skydiving (unfortunately no wing suits back then), hang gliding, and in other parts of the world, skiing, racing cars, drag and circuit… I thought I’d done just about every sporting thrill I’d want to try.
I’m 68 and play golf (over 45 years) then here you go mentioning bucket list. I live in the highlands of Japan now and though I’d never try wing suits at my age, I still love deep powder on a 38* slope.
I have got to try foil and efoils while I still think I can. You got this old heart racing again.
Yup, a bucket list item for sure.
Thanks.
James! Now that’s one amazing life! Thrilled there’s something we can find to add to your bucket list! Let me know if I can ever help. I’ve met a few folks in Japan through foiling. Best wishes. Devon
Hello Devon, nothing amazing to speak of but as a reckless hedonist my golden years are not as bright as could be. The world is going crazy as past generations have never before witnessed but I believe humanity will overcome and we’ll continue to seek activities to enjoy and expand our experiences.
I won’t be surfing anymore nor even skateboarding but foiling; that’s got me really excited.
Thanks for your reply and offer.
As a former skateboarder, now 41, foiling scratches the itch of my teenage past time! Thanks for the note back. I have no doubt you’re living your best life.
Need to combine this with the WIG craft
I took the 2 hour Lift e-foil lesson, and pretty much mastered it. Then bought my own pump/wind/ surf foil set up recently. I have not launched it yet (waiting for some wind on my lake), but I am sure that once I get up I will remember the lesson I had in the Fall in Destin, FL. My question is, can you steal the wake at 3:51 and shut off the e-foil motor? One more thing, It sounds like you have never done wing foiling. I think you need to do that before you lump pump foiling and wing foiling into "Classic' foiling.
Thanks! Yes, I’ve done some wake surfing w efoil a but it’s not as much fun as I had hoped. Check out our recent Flite video. You can see us doing it. I’ve wing foiled a few times now. Our lake just isn’t very windy.
I just started surfing in the last year and this looks way more accessible to be as a Canadian with many lakes around, but not to many ocean swells to catch.
Just 1 question I haven't seen addressed in any video.
What happens when you fall? With either the efoil or classic, how do you get back on and continue the ride?
Efoil has thrust so you can start it anywhere. Classic foiling requires a nearby dock to borrow for a dock start. 😂
@@WakeThief so on a classic foil of you bail...what then?
Swim to a nearby dock and dock start it (run and jump onto board) or it’s a long swim home. Most people get towed on a classic foil from a jet ski or boat.
@@WakeThief dang that seems like a rich people thing. I'll see myself out.
Like I really want to try it but I've never ridden a skateboard or surfboard and I'll likely have a hard time riding one. And also I'm afraid of injuries from getting onto one from a dock. I guess I'm afraid I'll jump on one then fall back and hit my head or something idk. I'll need lessons for sure.
Do you have to register this as a boat?
Your video made me check out traditional foiling, but I didn't find anything on water take-offs. Like, when you crash and have to get. going again. Is that not a thing, lol?
Wipeouts are real … sometimes I have a long swim home!
I really would like to get into foiling using an efoil, since I don't have easy access to boats or jetskis. But these things are suuuper expensive. Do you know if it is viable to build an efoil from scratch and if there is a place to get some information on that?
There's a few DIY efoil forums, but I wouldn't say I know a place to go. You might want to check out foil drive assist in australia. It can be paired with a classic hydrofoil to give some of the features of an efoil.
@@WakeThief Thanks! The drive assist thing looks really promising.
way to go!
Thanks, Jane. I appreciate the comment.
The first time I saw one of these things, I was tripping acid out on the lake. I legit could not decide if I was hallucinating or not
Can you still pump on an efoil? Or is it too heavy to move without the prop
Too heavy and not enough glide
Very true to what you said...I was wing foiling for 1 year and starting to get better and efficient on it until I got my 1st Fliteboarod .. basically this year I went winging only 2 times and I end up getting another Fliteboarod and I spend Thursday, Friday and Sunday teaching my students how to efoil ... when I don't have a student I end up riding at least 3 times each day...I have logged on over 1500 miles from June to now...and I always debate of either going efloiling or wing foiling...my game on wing foiling is getting worse lol
Love your videos by the way. Saw the one where your friend shot his board at you. Crazy. I used your video to figure out how to put trueglide on. Well done!
@@WakeThief Good to know it was helpful...by the way if you are using the true glide propeller be careful cause they can fail on you...I had 2 of them failing on me. So you could be stoked far away from shore. But they say that the problem is due to the barring falling off. It only happens if you carry your board on the top of the car with the propeller spinning freely in the air...at hight speeds, 60, 70 mph is too much for the design to handle that rpm so after a while once you go riding they fall off. Don't quote me...this was one of the Fliteboard in NY telling me...but if you don't carry your board freely on the top of your car you will be good. Keep up the good work with you videos...im following you for a while...please consider in subscribing cause I'm constantly posting Fliteboarod videos...take care bud.
You got it! Wow. Thanks for sharing that! Subscribing now.
@@WakeThief Yes...and another tip...I don't know if you ride in the ocean...But I do...and sometimes I go about 5 to 6 miles out...so on those days I never use the true glide cause I don't want to get stoked...I only use it if I'm going surfing close to shore...also I carry a extra prop on me all the time in case I brake one...I just had to replace a prop yesterday as my student collided with me...and I had to change it right in the mid of the water...bring your tools too lol...There is also a video saying where to buy a small compact dray bag to carry this stuff...glad to help man...you are helping all of us in the foil world too. cheers

Ohhhh! That cavitation at 4:21 is So bad! Was the wing damaged? I had a wing that had cavitation like that and it got so turbulent at 17mph. Like I hit a wall! Great video as always! Thanks!
I've never had any damage, thankfully! Going fast and hitting something can be brutal, I'd imagine. Thanks for the comment, David.

Just went out on an Efoil today and I’m having withdrawals. Wish it was mine but it wasn’t. I gotta get one for myself
The feeling of flight is something else. I’m probably at 500 hours of foiling and just yesterday I had session behind the boat that will live on in my mind for the rest of my life. The efoil makes the sport so much more accessible … good luck on your journey. Please stay tuned. We’re not done with efoils!
how long the battery last?
As a Onewheel enthusiast I've always desperately wanted one, but man those price tags...
Thank You for wearing a helmet. Too many CZcams videos show non helmeted riders. I was clipped in the head with the sharp wing during a crash last month, which required 11 staples to close a inch and a half gash
Wow! Flite was adamant that we wear a helmet. We honored their request.
Slap some super glue on it keep goin
Seems super cool but firstly, I don't really have a lake near by I can try this in besides lake Michigan which is pretty far out from me (2 hours or more for a spot to do this). And secondly both look insanely expensive. So I'll pass but seems super cool.
Thanks for the comment. It's totally fair. If you're like me and have had dreams of flying, this is as close to that feeling as I've experienced. If you're ever on vacation, pull up the lift and flite and demo center locations and treat yourself to a great experience. Thanks again for your comment.
Its rather amazing that all the questions from curious onlookers; and none of them asked the cost. hee hee...
Only relevant if in flat waters. Here in Australia we are all near the surf. Classic foil is perfect
Can you learn pump the the Efoil and after you get the hang on a Efoil can you dock start a traditional foil or will it be hours and days to learn to dock start
Efoiling is a great way to learn to foil … I’ve seen people who were great efoilers learn very quickly the first time they classic foiled. However dock starting and pumping are different animals. No doubt efoiling will make it easier but it will still take 10-20 hours of practice to figure out … but it’s so much fun and so worth the investment of time
@@WakeThief So another words you can’t practice your pumping skills on this board I thought big front wing get the board on foil then shut off motor and start pumping skills can this be done
I haven’t been able to do that. I have been able to do that with the foil drive though! czcams.com/video/jp6-l2-LZOM/video.html
Can’t you manually pump the efoil when you don’t press the throttle? Best of both worlds :)
I haven’t seen anyone do this … I wasn’t able to because … too much drag under the water and so much speed needed to keep me and a 70lb efoil flying that the thrust from pumping is just too great for me to create.
Would it be easier to learn e-foiling first or classic foiling?
Efoiling
@@WakeThief It would be nice if it were possible to combine the two. A lightweight efoil that has just enough power to get you off the water, and assist your pumping enough that your range is far greater than a classic foiler
@macrumpton this product combines the two pretty well. tinyurl.com/42uf42ed
I think that E-Foiling is a lot more fun for people who do not want to spend hours learning a new thing and who just want to relax and have fun, while classic foiling is for people who want to put in the effort and have a workout while having fun.
Well said!

What’s the best classic foil and e foil brand.
That’s a tough question … there’s a lot of classic foil brands. Each seem to specialize at different things. Like any industry there are pros and cons of each.
I like seeing all with helmets. I had a frightening crash with 12 stitches and a near out cold drowning. Now it's all helmet

I got the '5. It's a good compromise size for ease of waterstart, and low swing weight for carving. But this also depends on your body weight.... I'm 155 pounds, 5' 10"

Great toy but the over $10K price tag makes them a very niche product. Hopefully, the manufacturers will modernize their production lines, making more automated, so prices can be brought down. Hi Olwen - I don't know much about it, but definitely have seen it on CZcams. I've tried a few times, but I wouldn't say with much success. My lake just isn't windy enough. Will give it a try soon and I promise to share.
I think it's amazing, and it seems to be growing super fast ... even among loyal kiteboarder who held out for awhile thinking it wasn't going to be fun.

...I am surprised that there is not a wrist strap on the controller. I would hate to lose that thing to the water.
There is a wrist strap on both controllers. As far as I know they float too, but dropping one might be hard to find.
It floats, and there's a strap that encloses your palm to the controller. Have not had a problem in 3 months. Besides.... If you drop it everything would stop and you simply grab it again.
I want 1
I envision something similar but mine had the motor in the front and was more like a bicycle
I’ve never heard of that. Interesting concept!
@@WakeThief I also was wondering if a circular airfoil is more stable at lower speeds is it possible that a circular hydrofoil is more stable lower speeds meaning it will take less physical effort to fly I picture something like an airobi
I love the out of the box thinking! I really don’t know?!?!? I wonder if the rotation of the aerobi helps it fly? I have to think about it. Thanks for taking the time to leave this note! Happy new year!
@@WakeThief there's also another flying circular aircraft it's called an geobat there's an old video from 2011 of an RC plane that uses a circular wing because it's more stable at lower speeds there is even a paper airplane cut out not entirely sure why the principles of that cannot be applied to a hydrofoil if you took the aerobi design and turned it into a hydrofoil and used it in much the same way you can make very large hydrofoils or even multiple hydrofoils on one device to increase stability
I’ll check it out. Thank you!
What's the battery life on these?
I'm not too sure. I can find out though. Will let you know.
Prizes????
Just looked it up, just shy of 18 grand for an Efoil at the moment
They range from $7000 for waydoo flyer one at mackite to $14k+. These two efoils are about $12k each.
So....which one?
Flite or Lyft?
They’re very similar, but do vary across different parameters. I preferred lifts long throw trigger. I preferred flites multiple safety features. Each rider will have different preferences. And unless you have a specific top feature priority it would be hard to name a favorite.
@@WakeThief thank you sir! Lae George looks amazing to ride on! Im looking at the NY finger lakes...
How fast can they travel
I’ve reached 40km/hr on Flite but suspect with the smallest front wings they could go even faster.
I so wanted one then I saw the price…more than I spent on my 2 used waverunners…ouch. Standard foil seems to be only cheapskate option but appreciate the video
A classic foil plus this might work. czcams.com/video/jp6-l2-LZOM/video.html
Happy to discuss if you want to email. Wakethief@icloud.com
Give it a few years these things will go down 90%
Weird seeing this but i live in lake george
But those props are not that well designed, a lot of cavitation going on. But I suppose having skewed screws is t worth the extra cost and effort
sitting standing walking thinking silent
fiberglass < ceramic}loud
I'm not sure of this. I believe that it is a little bit precarious. Bad enough to get used to paddle boarding. No! I'm not curious as to that!
