  • This week we start a new journey in my carp fishing!
    Join me as I start work on learning to cast distance with the first target of being able to fish comfortably with 3 rods on a spot and baiting up at 150yard!!
    Having carp fished for over 20 years mostly on small lakes with features up to 100 yards my ability to distance cast is almost non existent!
    We will be looking at my current lack of ability and setup and talk about the upgrades with each episode looking at a different aspect of technique or equipment!
    Follow along and see if you can improve your range!!!!!

    When I used to practice over the park fields or on a lake I always tied a pop up on a rig but
    obviously no hook, pointless without a bait. On the field il go over in all conditions rain and wind positioning myself into the wind and casting into the side wind, after all who knows what the conditions will be like when you go fishing. Looking forward to see how you get on 👍

      @@DiaryOfAnAverageCarpAnglerI got better gear these days but then would have been around 120yds but what was difficult was getting the spod out there. I’m 5ft 7 on a good day and lighter than you lol
      In the vid you were casting on a slope maybe if it was level you could have added a couple of yds
      I tried the tapered line and it didn’t help me I had to go to a heavier lead to help get the long length of the thick line of the leader out there… not saying it won’t help you tho….. what size are the spools on your reels. ?

    A very honest review, looking forward to the series, we can’t all afford, or even justify the latest rods n reels for the few times these sort of ranges are needed 👍

      @DiaryOfAnAverageCarpAngler  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Totally agree. I couldn't justify expensive gear so hopefully show it can be done reasonably. Fishing gear has came a long way past few years you get a lot for your buck at the lower ends these days

    Just couple things that have helped me!
    My water has leader ban- 4 or 4.5 oz zip leads on helicopters.
    13ft 3.5lb century sp
    15lb esp syncro loaded- soaked in water to make more supple.
    High hinge rigs are my favourite 12mm pop ups.
    I cast like frank warwick slightly off to the side not arms above my head, i bring rod back over my head, and swing the lead like a pendulum then when i feel the lead getting higher and loading the rod i take a step forward and let them fly! Pointing rod at rig through flight and try to hit clip hard to lay rig out!

      All good tips. I have 4oz zip heli leads delivered for France next month so will be interesting to see how they go over my standard 4oz lead clip or 4oz dumpy helis! Have been a big fan of synco over the years although I think ogx is winning me over! Although I have tapperd line for France next to try. Cheers for your experiences 🤘

    Love the Video 📹 Very honest, and I am looking forward to seeing how you progress throughout this year. To be honest, I think you're doing great already mate! To be able to fish accurately at 30 wraps with preaty standard gear, in my humble opinion, is very good 👍 I reckon with ur 13ft rods, you will be hitting 35 wraps in No time 😊 keep up the good work and looking forward to the next video 👍

    Looking forward to see how you progress. I’ve heard the OGX is a great line with very little stretch. By very interesting to see the difference a tapered line would make.

    hi, when you cast you brink your left arm to your belly, if you pull it hard into your chest, i promise you will gain 10-15 yards, your creating much faster tip speed your right arm is only acting as the fulcrum point the left hand should be pulled hard into your chest at you step forward, ive never used anything but budget 12ft 3.5lb rods prologic etc but can hit 35 wraps on 15lb straight through no probs

    • @DiaryOfAnAverageCarpAngler
      @DiaryOfAnAverageCarpAngler  Před 7 měsíci

    Make a cast then! 90 % of you long range wannabes lie. Tie a proper rig in a proper situation that's how far you can cast!🥱

      Which is literally the point of the series me learning the technique and the equipment I need to fish properly with rigs and bait at distance 🤷 but if that makes me a wannabe then I'm happy with that. Il still be out enjoying myself and my fishing 🙂

      How do you get on fishing at shorter ranges with a higher test curve 12ft rod?. Does it feel overgunned?
