    Great video! It’s helped loads. One question, why do you raise the rod tip before the lead hits the water? I see everyone do it but no one seems to explain it. Thanks.

    • @carl6936
      @carl6936 Před 4 lety +4

      He's hitting the line clip on the reel. Bringing the rod tip back or to the side and holding a looser grip just before the line hits the clip will cushion the impact and lessen the likelyhood of the lead springing back away from your mark.

    It's sad that here in the states the only ones talking about long distance casting are surf fisherman. But there are many of us that want to be able to cast as you do on lakes and slow moving rivers to get our baits out into the deep holes where the big cats hang out, like the big flatheads. Your delivery to those spots is what we need. My question is can it be done with the 10 to 12 ft catfishing poles we use that are a bit more beefier than the slimmer ones you are using, not by a lot but ours are heavier. I currently fish in a small, in town public fishing lake. Most fisherman if they catch any at all catch some pan size channel cats which are fine but as long as they have been stocking this lake with catfish I know there are some big ones out in the deep middle of the lake. Your advice would really help this old man do better. Thanks in advance. Kirk n TX.

      @kitemare4321 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can but you need to make sure whatever rod you are using is rated for heavier weights/baits. I have used bass rods to sling out heavy pack baits & catfish bait. The bigger 10-12ft would help a lot if you want to cast deep/further(40-100+yards)

    • @martinscott6881
      @martinscott6881 Před 6 lety +3

    • @alexbrooks5738
      @alexbrooks5738 Před 6 lety +1

      4 wraps min do 6-8 allows for chopping off the tackle end then from to the tip down to the spigot. That's roughly where you should have it when you cast. Use a back to back grinnler 10 turns for braid to braid.

    • @marcbrewster1966
      @marcbrewster1966 Před 6 lety

      Ok I've got 40lb braid, I only use it for marker float & leading around do I need a leader with this?

    • @alexbrooks5738
      @alexbrooks5738 Před 6 lety +1

      Id say that's fine it depends on the distance your casting and lead weight. I've used 50lb straight through for a 6oz spod chucked over a hundred yards. It's only for the force on the cast. Most use a 20lb braid or 15lb mono main with a 50-60lb leader but technique is number one look up tournament casters for the best idea of chucking leads You can get tuition to.
      You can use whiplash as a leader 150m 60lb of that is a few quid more and is more economical than 20m of armacord you still need to feather down on the cast to stop the float from getting tangled on entry to the water armacord alone won't stop that hamidi told me himself.

    • @Kingcarparpeggio
      @Kingcarparpeggio Před 5 lety +1

      DickOswald ....Your wrong. A wrap is the distance between two distance sticks. I know anglers that place their distance sticks 6 yards apart. It's a little trick used to confuse prying eyes . A wrap can be any length you choose......usually the length of a standard 12'carp rod.

    • @Kingcarparpeggio
      @Kingcarparpeggio Před 5 lety

      Just to enlarge on that, a friend of mine has been giving me the heads up on spots for ages now and viva versa and it turns out that he bought his distance sticks on eBay with rings and string and the string is only 11'6'' long 😂😂😂😂. Work that out,
      that's a lot different if your expecting his wrap to be 12' long. Over 20 wraps that a difference of 10' 🤓.
      I've had to adjust all my records in my little black book to suit. Also I never use string, just measure it out with my Spod Rod.
