      I think there’s more guys running around over 26k w goosenecks w/o CDL As than that have it ....A CDL B doesn’t work for any of these trailers.

      @@JohnDiMartino definitely. The 05 in the vintage behind the dually has gotta be over 26k and there are weekend warriors with similar setups all over the place. It's crazy to me the sketchy towing some people do, and then you have people busting balls of youtubers that have a CDL A and are doing everything by the book. I've seen guys hauling large skid steers/excavators behind 1/2 ton trucks, no one bats an eye.

    I would love to see you all actually go thru setups that you can haul with each truck factored in legally. It’s really interesting to me how all the details factor in even down to how they weigh you if you get stopped. So many people including me tow but don’t know enough about those details. Some may find it boring but using your stuff you have a great way to show examples for us if you can find an expert on the laws and equipment.

    If you're loading the new Diamond C trailer with 2 trucks on it, the dually will be over its gross 14k. With the trailer empty you only have about 1k lbs. you can add to the pin weight. Looks like the Peterbilt needs to get done.

    I have a 2020 Diamond C FMAX 212 44 foot goose-neck with Max Ramps and electric over hydraulic disc brakes. It weights in at 8,800 lbs. on the CAT scale. I have another 2020 Diamond C FMAX 207 35 foot with 17.5 tires that weights in at 5,500 lbs. Those pumps and extra boxes really add up.

    Not to sound like a negative Nancy but you can only haul what the truck is legally aloud you to haul doesn’t matter what the trailer can haul it’s what the truck will allow you to haul, plus just a heads up I know for a fact that the dot is pulling more and more pickup trucks over and weighing them and they are getting busted for being to heavy

      I have already reached out to my contacts from them to take over! I have faith in the Diamond C people, btw I'm pretty sure the other trailer shop was the zip ties, NOT Diamond C. Im sure they will get it sorted out.

      450 is the way to go the turning is insane have had my 450 for a 1year and 3 months no problem 60k miles on it always towing between 10k to 30k pounds have different size trailers

    Not sure the specifics of your truck but with a GVWR of 14K you are almost there (5220+7860=13,080) and you mentioned you only had about 1/4 tank or less of fuel. By the time you fill it all the way up and put anything else in the truck you could be overweight on the truck. With big trailers come extra looking by the weights and measurements guys. With a GCWR of a 2018 highest rating on the 3500 is 31,210 you can only load about 9,110 on that trailer before you are overweight, which that weight if not over axles of the trailer would add more into the pin weight and could put the truck over its GVWR. Don't get into an accident being overweight or the lawyers will have a field day in court. 😎😎 Its all about the tow vehicle ratings and not the specs on the trailer specifically. You would need a much larger hauler to get anywhere near the 40K rating on the trailer.

      I'm glad someone else understands how it all works. Just like a chain is only as strong as the weakest link, you can only tow as much as the lowest rating, whether it's the truck, trailer or your license.

    Some of that weight transfers over to the truck so once you hook the trailer up to whatever you're pulling it with it's a combination vehicle. Truck gvwr + trailer gvwr = combination rating. Then subtract the total combination weight and that's your capacity. Then you just need to make sure you stay under each individual axle rating. Same concept but results will vary depending which truck you hook up. Loving the new trailer🤑

      The 3500 Dually is only rated for 14k so it leaves only 900 lbs. he can add to the pin weight. I'd get rid of the upper deck or get a bigger truck.

    bulk of the weight is in the frame. from working on 53 footer and what not the axles are not that heavy by themselves. and the decking may be a large part

    I was super close on new trailer weight (12.5k), got vintage close at 12k, truck spot on at 9k, was wrong on PJ at 7.5k. It was cool to see the actual weights. Need the Peterbuilt to max out the new trailer I believe. Dont think the 18' will be legal. But two duallies and trailer would be ok.

    Interesting to see how much weight gets added to the tow rig with just the empty trailer. The steer axle + drive axle added together can not exceed the GVWR of the tow rig. Many CDL & non CDL drivers are overweight for this reason.

      Exactly what I commented on. The dually GVWR is 14k. That only leaves 980#s of pin weight he can add & he wasn't even full of fuel. That trailer is just too big for a pickup.

    Limiting factor on towing big in a Ram 3500 is payload. Limiting factor in towing big in a Ram 5500 is tow rating. The Ram 3500 cannot really tow at its tow rating because of payload. I mean the 3500's most people buy. Crew cab with features and 4x4.

    The one weight you're going to need to watch is the GVWR on the truck. With the Diamond C you're sitting at 13,080 lbs on the truck. The GVWR is only 14,000 so you can't even put another 1,000 lbs on the truck legally, that'd be tongue weight, passengers, anything else in the bed. If you're not needing/using it I'd take the upper deck off as that's adding a good bit of weight on the truck.

      Technically speaking there is no law that states it is illegal to exceed gross vehicle weight rating. Do I condone it, no. But it is not technically illegal

I know guys that have been held at scales until they can either move some weight around and get their weights legal or have had to wait for someone to come so that they can unload some of it. Usually they're pretty lenient if an axle is over but your gross is still legal. But if your gross is over you're done. At least my experience running trucks.

      Your numbers are not applied accurately. The tongue weight of the trailer goes against the truck's gvwr. 13080 trailer has a tongue weight of 1,962lbs at 15%. So add the 1,962 and weight of the truck which was 9080. They total 11042. So they are under the 14,000 of the trucks gvwr. People need to find out what their tongue weight is on how the load their trailers.

    Think the DC is substantially heavier than in needs to be in part due to ordering the deck framing on 12” centers instead of the standard 16”....this IMO was unnecessary for the application (truck hauling) and added alot of steel, especially when the deck was also upgraded to (heavier) blackwood

    I hve a important question a dulley gooseneck 40 ft trailer flatbed, would it still be considered the same experience if im drivin a. Tractor trailer 53ft? Bc i would take this job if i still would get credit for it

    Nice rigs 👍 What kind of driving license do you need? In Sweden we have to have an extended driving license to tow up to 7000 kg (car + trailer), If you passing that weight you need a truck license :-)

      26001 pounds and up requires a Commercial Drivers License in the US. And in some states if the trailer alone weighs over 10k lbs. you would need one.
