The build up of nitrates and loss of essential water elements can harm or even kill your fish. But aquarium water changes do not have to be a burden. We can do an aquarium water Change very easily using a Python. The Python is very useful in eliminating the need for buckets and buckets. i’m very new to this so i gotta ask can you just use dechlorinator if you don’t have the other stuff? also if you have a 10 gallon fish tank how much would i have to use?
I have an 87L tank and I have these huge 40L rubber buckets, works a treat, i use a standard gravel vac and remove about 35L and then put fresh water into my rubber bucket with API stress coat. It ends up being about a 40% water change.

love your videos. I have done so much research but can never get enough. I have myself my very first fish tank and a big 75 gallon tank at that! In a few weeks I’ll have the water parameters good to add fish. I had a question in regards to maintenance water changes. It’s obvious I need to add dechlorinator to my water but….. When the water has been taken out of the tank…Before I add the new tap water ...do I put the dechlorinator in the current tank water then it’s safe to just pour tap water into the tank with the fish and old tank water!?? It Just sounds weird that I could put tap water in the tank right away after putting in the dechlorinator in the old tank water. or should I add tap water to a bucket with the declorinator before I put into the tank directly or is that being over cautious? I just want to make sure I don’t hurt my fishies when I get them. I may be asking a silly question but better safe than sorry I just want to take the correct steps when doing my weekly changes. Is it that safe to do so? Thank you for all the education videos.
I’m new the hobby and I’m confused about dechlorinating. Do I add it before adding untreated tap water? So, putting the full amount in for the size of the tank and then start introducing the tap water?
Also, how do you manage to add tap water that isn’t pre heated? Any help is a massive help lol

I go with 50% water changes every week. It gets rid of ammonia, makes my fish healthy, and gives me a workout. So it works for me!
I forgot to mention, my fish seem to be fine after the WC, so that’s what I’ll stick with. 😂

@@omarr8k635 that’s completely dependent on you. 50% can do a lot to your water and help keep it healthy, and 100% can be fantastic for a tank but it’s not necessary (unless you have a massive ammonia spike or your water is very dirty). So, it’s entirely up to you, if you want to go the unnecessarily safe route and spend a while, or go to the necessary safe route and spend less time. Though, both are great options (anyone correct me if I’m wrong)
So my question is when you do the water change do you just add tapwater back in from your faucet? I have angelfish, glow fish types and sucker fish, in my tank and Im still new to fish keeping. But I have not familiarized myself with adding water or doing a water change and how I’m supposed to go with the type of water to add back in I have a 110 gallon tank. Basically what I’m confused on is when you add the tap water into your tank so you put in the de-chlorinator before adding water into the tank or after. Cause I know you said you do a pre mixed bucket for your certain fish but idk if I should do the same to mine since mine arnt the same fish

Hey there, just found your channel and love it! What would be your advice on this but for a tropical tank. I take it you can't put straight from the tap into the tank and wait for the temp to balance?
Glad you found it also! 😊 I adjust my temperature at the tap to match the tank before sending the water to the tank.
This is so much easier than what I usually do I didn’t know you could just pour the dechlorinator in the water while you’re doing the water change otherwise I would’ve just used a hose to begin with I thought you had to let it sit in the water for a minute for it to kick in (so I would pour the water into a bowl or bucket add D chlorinator to it and then scoop by scoop slowly refill the water)
Yup, maybe old school dechlorinators but Prime is very safe and can be added right to the tank. Glad I could help 😊

Do you add the chlorine killer after the water is in the tank?
How many gallons is this tank? Mine is a bowed 36 gallon. You can put cichlids in that low of a tank? Thought it has to be 75 gallon or bigger? And also on the water changes I thought every bucket I fill up with has to be mixed with the prime first. Can you just add the right amount of prime in tank and then fill it up with the chlorinated water without it deleted first? Looks like you added the chemicals in the tank and just added the hose water to the tank. Looks like it woukd be much faster which is cool but wonder if it wouldn't mix right away with fish already in the tank? Forgive me as I'm a newbie.
Are you positive it’s alright o add the declorinator like this vs in the water mixed in before putting it into the tank.

Can I put the small middle piece with the valve in the dishwasher to clean it? My python doesn't have as much suction as it used to
I wouldnt, dishwasher get very hot and can melt the plastic
Love these videos! I went to buy a goldfish for my son, got chatting to a guy in the shop… needless to say I didn’t buy the goldfish and things escalated quickly. We love it and my 7 year old is super into it too!
So, I bought the set up, bought the dechlorinator stuff, bought the starter bacteria and dosed as per the instructions, left it for a week and the levels were nice and low (though my strips were saying there was very low ammonia, even though there was nothing on there, so that’s first question). After a week we went to buy fish. About half what the tank capacity it going by the 1cm of fish rule and I’ve been continuing to put the starter bacteria in at the start up rate because my levels are still higher than it should be. A week later I’ve spiked and I’m scared. If I do a 50% water change (with dechlorinator stuff) reckon it’ll help? Another video you did said I won’t loose my beneficial bacteria that I’ve got but realistically with the amount I’ve put in (daily dose for a fortnight) I don’t understand what’s going on!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, we’ve already had one die because the others bullied it and were pecking at it 😭

Correct. Once the tap is at the right temp, then I send it to the tank. 😊

Is that a 54 gallon corner bow front tank? If so where did you get your canopy? I need one.
It was a 48 gallon bow front which I bought used, with canopy included. Sorry couldn’t help.
People might also do a % water change (meaning more or less ) due to the water quality of the fish tank at that time.
Is the part of the python kit that attaches to the tap female? I will need to see if I can get an adapter for my tap and want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks for your time.
I think maybe it comes with the adapter.
It is female. I dont remember if it comes with an adaptor or not anymore...but it can be easily found at your local home depot.

Hey! if I add the dose of conditioner before adding new water, will it help dechlorinate the new incoming water? won't it dissolve before the tank finishes filling up?
You want it to dissolve. That’s why you add it in first before the new water.
What are you using to add the water back in. I use pitcher to pitcher. And using the pitchers I use prime once my tank is full. How else should I do it

Great videos! I have learned a lot from your direct approach. How do you monitor the temperature of your water from the tap? I have been using buckets for years because I haven't figured out how to make sure the faucet temperature is the same and doesn't fluctuate.
Thanks, I just use a handheld thermometer under the tap, adjust the hot and cold until I get the desired temp and let’er rip 😊

When changing your water using the python, how do you maintain the water temperature? Or would this system be better used on a mixer tap where you can control the water temperature going back into the tank.
That’s how I do it, I set my hot and cold to the temp I want. Then send the water to tank. I use a hand held thermometer to check temp.

Whats your buffer? I see its seachem brand and the salt ? How much should you use salt?
I use cichlids salt and Malawi buffer as well as crushed coral and aragonite sand. I add the dosage amount on the bottles for the amount of water I change out.

Where do you pull your water from ? I’m struggling finding a way to do water changes. My tanks are upstairs and my python wont connect to the sink up there.. in summer I was using the hose outside but now it’s way too cold to pull water from outside. Any ideas ?

Hey there, love all of your videos. Quick question when you add the de-chlorinator are you pouring it directly into the tank as much as you need in one shot? Or a little as you go? Or are you drawing the water from a premixed bucket, I’m assuming the python is connected straight to your tap though. Thanks for all the great content keep it up! I’ve learned a lot.
I dose the volume of the entire tank all in one shot just before adding the new tap water.

Also where should my PH levels be before adding fish?
Yes, always. You dont want heaters on while not submerged under water. they can burn out or even melt. PH levels depend on what your fish species require.
Is it okay to use a python with a spetic tank?
Hey Kaveman... great videos and to the point. At 2:45 in the video it looks like one of your fish swam into the python, but managed to fight the current and swim out again... is this a risk for smaller fish etc going down the drain?
Only if you have really small fish, in which case you would just use the smaller siphon tube 😊
Do you add the dechlorinator before after or during adding tap water ?
Directly into the tank just before adding in the new water.
I am AMAZED that when using that "python", the fish are not suctioned thru the pipe as well.
It’s not that strong, occasionally one does swim up the tube but very easy to get him out.
Are you adding the prime to the tank or to a separate tub of water you have on the side?
You can add prime directly to the tank just before adding in new water 😁
