  • Chandor - Goa's Ancient Capital
    in 1929 Fr Heras excavated a site in Chandor and unearthed a 11th century Shiva temple and also a Nandi bull
    Between the late 6th and mid-11th centuries Chandor was better known as Chandrapura,
    Chandor then known as Chandrapura, flourished due to rich deposits of iron ore in mines deep in the forests of Goa. placed strategically where the Kushavati river flows into the Zuari river to its north.
    Chandrapura was able to easily transport the ore across its rivers and export the commodity overseas.

    NOTE- Descendents of Kadamba family still exists today in Goa .

    Please check your History facts.
    Portuguese didn't kill kadamba king .
    Portuguese fought the Sultan of Bijapur with help of Timaya & Local Goans .... To free the Goans from over 100 years rule of Bijapur sultanate.
    The Temple was destroyed by Nizams of Deccan later by Sultan of Bijapur in late 13th century.
