  • This is a recording of the March 15th, 2024 Mental Health Action Partnership Learning Session about the Advancing Behavioral Health Initiative local mental health coalitions. The panel discussion was followed by breakout rooms (not recorded) and a whole group discussion. Please see below for background information on the Advancing Behavioral Health Initiative:
The Advancing Behavioral Health Initiative (ABHI) began in 2016 when the Advancing Healthier Wisconsin (AHW) Endowment invested $20 million to build the networks, systems, and structures best suited to address mental health challenges for Wisconsin residents. This 8-year, 3-phase project funded ten community coalitions across the state, including urban, rural, and tribal communities, to improve behavioral health at a population-level through systems change. An Academic Partner Team was also selected to support coalitions, collaborate on data collection and analysis, and conduct a global evaluation of the project. Over the eight years of this project, funding was used form coalitions, identify priorities, build sustainable programs, and assess their effects.
On February 21, 2024, the Behavioral Health Strategy Guide was released to widely disseminate the lessons learned from the ABHI. The Behavioral Health Strategy Guide showcases work conducted by the ABHI with practicable suggestions and actionable insights to improve behavioral health in Wisconsin communities. The key details of the strategies developed by 10 community coalitions are shared to further their mission of raising awareness, reducing stigma, and building capacity to create sustainable change.
