  • Hey gidday and Welcome to “Big Bike Adventures”.
I'm often asked how I navigate and create routes and tracks. I'll do another more detailed video in the future, but here is a real life day trip on mostly unknown roads, linking tracks and farms access roads to ride the most dirt as possible to get to my destination.

I once missed a No Entry sign and was met with a very angry owner and a rifle.
On my way back out, embarrassed with my tail between my legs, I noticed the sign.... it was about the size of a packet of smokes. No wonder I didn't see it.
Good to see others out there respecting signs.

There’s plenty of places where the crops aren’t for public viewing and they can get a bit touchy. These were just cabbages 😂😂😂

Ahh the joys of following up a "what's up that road?" with a U turn and explore 🙂
Getting lost is part of my thing too, I tend to study routes at length before a big trip - including alternatives, and I have Google Off-Line Maps, which can be surprisingly good. If I do end up really lost, I can look at the map from the In-Reach on my phone and work out where I am.
Looked like a fun day Steve 👍

“Lost” is such a harsh word.
      I prefer “off route exploring”.
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to navigation options these days and no one thing is best.

The nice thing about GPS is you can go out and get totally lost then with the click of a button you can find your way home.

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  Před 4 měsíci

True, you can still do that with apps if you have offline maps download. In the past I’ve had some great routes presented by the GPS by telling it to avoid everything except unsealed roads.

    G'day BBA,
OK so first of all; are you my Dad, LOL only jokes :)
First time in a while that I've watched one of your videos, but could relate to this one immensely.
    - Also from SEQ
    - Also ride a BB
    - Also navigate using GAIA GPS
    - But most importantly, was looking for a more offroad oriented route between Warwick and Brisbane. I spend a lot of time / kilometers in the New England & Granite Belt regions of NSW and find the highway miles between Warwick & Brisbane on the ride home extremely tiresome. So not only has your video given me some insight into a better way home, but also some valuable tips on navigating.
I've also got a big trip planned in May'24. 14 day Outback trip with a couple of mates.
    Thanks mate, great video.
    Cheers, Rosco

Hey mate, send a pic of your mum, you never know. 😂😂Jokes.
Mt Berryman is a great track up over to Mt Sylvia and then up to Ma Ma creek. A little further North is East Egypt Rd, you’ll like that as well, from Gatton up to Sth Toowoomba.
Our trip out West will only be a quick run out to the corner store and back. I want to do some really big days on the 901 to see how we get on.

I used to be a Hema guy but they changed their format so I moved over to GAIA. It’s excellent for motorcycle riders.

@@BigBikeAdventures That would be awesome Steve.
I’ve signed up for Gaia, Revr, onX Offroad. I also have the Garmin apps along with a Montana 700i.
I always just go back to Google maps and wing it. 😂
Although I do find OnX Off-road useful for telling me what is private and public land, which is helpful with all the illegal cannabis grows in Humboldt County.
It could be bad to ramble across the wrong grow. ☠️

It’s noticeable via your helmet reflection on your phone that the phone is vibrating quite a bit. I’m led to understand that this can severely limit the life of the phone. They don’t like being shook up!!! Great video causing much envy every episode. If we had roads/tracks/lanes like yours I
wouldn’t have time to watch your vlogs. John in Uk.

Yes, you are correct, phones and especially the cameras don’t like it at all.
This one an old iPhone 11 and not my daily.
It is only used for navigation on my bikes.

      @rosscomerford4274 Před 4 měsíci

      Hi John,
I've also heard this to be true, especially with Iphones.
I've been using an old Samsung Galaxy S9 to navigate for around 4 years / 35,000 kilometers offroad. Doesn't seem like it's affected the Samsung, but also not my daily. As per Steve's comment, only used for the purpose of navigation.
