In the end we needed to call in a rescue helicopter for one of the riders who broke his leg. Can't praise the first responder enough, they provided amazing care for the fallen rider. I am so annoyed with myself. A simple error of judgment and poor riding skills led to the crash of my new HUSQVARNA NORDEN 901 EXPEDITION. What started out as a great day with Josh on his HONDA CRF1000L AFRICA TWIN and Dale on his HUSQVARNA 701 LONG RANGE ended with a wrecked bike and a cold wet ride home. NOT HAPPY. Way too many people assume they're the only ones out there. Glad he's ok.
Jeezus what a terrible sound when those two bikes hit. That's really very bad given its totally avoidable and the poor bloke's bike is a write off. Glad he's OK.
Fark, thats crazy. I hope you're doing alright and nothing was broken. I hope this helps teach people that even in the bush common sence should prevail and always keep left and be cautious on blind corners.
Footage is from AdvBrett, he’s sore but not broken.
You just can't win at the moment. That was not your fault. And you didn't once swear in the video!
The footage is from ADV Brett. Not me in this one.
My god you are really unfortune now days 😲hope your ok?? 😮
Not my footage. Sharing as an educational video
FFS. What was that boofhead doing right over there ‽
I hope you are ok
Sore but walking!! Very lucky that nothing is broken except the bike!
DR650 riders... what can we say ;) Hope there was no serious injuries.
Nothing big and serious but bloody sore! Will take a few days to get through the pain. Already on the search for a new bike!
i think it's the best thing i've ever seen before, i am lowkey shocked🐰
Wonderful relaxing video😍😍
Mate, looks like a cracker. Looking forward to watching!!🤣🤣
Oo this looks interesting.. I see Roxette still chucking you off.. 😂
Fell over, not off. 😂😂
Looks good fun
Looks like a great ride… plenty of adventure. 😁
Very dusty, but great fun!!
That was very emotional for me to watch..but good! I was helicopter rescued west of Townsville 2 1/2 weeks ago thanks to Garmin Inreach SOS. Still in hospital with smashed pelvis (operated on) and shoulder blade, and other stuff. The helicopter sound was the nicest sound in the world!!!
Pelvis is big one. Hope you are recovering well. We have some amazing SAR people in AUS. Wishing you a swift recovery.
@@BigBikeAdventures thanks mate. Yes we do.
Come on mate, with your reaction times and lack of ability, powered by your ego, I'm hanging out, here in my much derided armchair, waiting for your next bingle followed by a gem of wisdom such as "I just dont understand this bike" as you look wistfully at the slug laying on its side in the mud. Maybe if you weren't carrying seven bags of cement as well as the weight of my armchair, you may have had a better outcome rather than being sucked into the idea that you too can ride like Adam Reiman on a 901. Rather than spruke electronic crapola, adding MORE weight FFS, why dont you fill the saddlebags with helium. Haaahahaha
Time for a Tesla. 🙄
😂😂
You need a car mate
Hah, all sorted 👍
I see a problem straight away, its glossy so you wont see much when the sun is on it it will reflect. Thats why you started the video in the shade. Reason why I got the one with matte screen and 1000 nits of brightness.
Only issue for me is the reflection from my jacket, doesn’t detract from the operation.
Can you see it without your glasses,my Tom-tom is to small and they don't make a bigger one for motorcycles?
Yes I can, although I wear bifocal safety glasses in the helmet I can still see the screen very well without.
Cool man. I’ve thought about one of these for the car. Didn’t know they were adaptable to the bike. How do they do security wise, it’s a take off and stow type thing? Do they have the quad lock ability to attach too or via getting a universal fitting and attach that way?
There’s a weather proof cable connector on the back, and with the ram mount it’s quick and easy to remove. There’s also a range of mounts including a lockable (BMW style) mount.
😅I hardly bring my phone when lm riding, however l do in case of an emergency. Aa teck for all gadget lovers l guess. Ride safe my friend. 🇧🇻☕
Thanks for dropping in mate. 👍
Thanks for this, very informative. My aftermarket crash bars block the bottom screw so they had to come off as well - that's another story. My bike is 7 years old (I've had it one year) and I'm pretty sure once I got to it that it was the original air fliter.
First thing I do with a new (to me) bike is service it so I know what’s what. FYI, You don’t need to remove the side covers to service the air box. Just unscrew them so you can lift the tank
That sign riding into Inverell may as well have said "Water is wet" What is going on in our country?
Holly Smokes! … I miss some time on your channel and on catch up all kindsa shite has happened … TG everyone is basically ok. The EDC brake pads on the AT 11 screech just like mine … Take care all of you.
It’s been hectic without you.
Me thinks you need a less eventful trip soon 🤣 Roo heaven (or hell) out that side of the New England - at least you didn't seem to have to deal with that. I've got the exact same set up for power - and the RCD compressor - was so impressed when I got it out of the bag for the first time in 10 years and it just worked - show me a lithium batterty one that does that I'll be very surprised! Shame about the puncture, would have made it a tiresome trip home - great series Steve!!
It sure was eventful, it’s hard sometimes to show all the action and there was quite a bit more that didn’t make the cut. Thanks for some of the inspiration. 😉
"too much electronics" - every boomers problem thats never been a problem.
😂😂
Nice work as usual Steve. You blokes had a bit going on every day. That Norden sounds good when you're smashing gears with the quick shifter.
Thanks mate, it was a fun trip.
G’day mate from the uk! I own a Pan but due to looking at vids for the X Tourer, found your channel.. nice to hear a straight talking Aussie after not being in Brizzy and Byron for so many years … I’ll have a good watch and am sure I’ll enjoy your adventures! Still not sure on the X vs my beloved ST1300 tho 👍🏻 also sad to hear of your loss but it’s fair that you have found a good new partner… good on you pal 🇦🇺🐨🦘🌏🇬🇧👍🏻⭐️
Hey mate, thanks for dropping in. The Big V4 in the 12X is a completely different beast to the ST, both great engines though. Take care.
I think you all might want to find a new hobbie or get a PW50.
Haha, how fun would that be.
Awesome Steve, agree with your rant 👍, glad you got back home alright after the slow puncture dramas. I stopped using the TPMS, I'm sure that they were causing me slow leaks over time. Love that shot riding over the Gateway Bridge, cheers 🍻
Excellent thoughts on ADV riding Steve. The 890's were having issues with leaking rims, but you're running tubes, so it shouldn't be that issue. Heal up quickly Cushy! I have a question, since I don''t really have anyone else to ask you might have noticed this, helmet sizes, have they changed? Until a few years ago I could buy a helmet and they fit great. 58 on my head size and I could get a helmet in the 58-59 range. . Now the size range is 57-58 for a Medium and 59-60 for Large in most manufacturers, I can buy a large and it still gives me issues with pressure but only after riding for longer rides. Have you noticed any differences in helmet sizing or is it just me with an odd sized head, a bit rounder than most I guess.
We just have S,M,L,XL. I’ve always been XL and 3 helmets over the last couple of years have all been the same.
PS always appreciate your comments Pinkie. Thanks 🙏
@@BigBikeAdventures Thanks Steve! I think of you as a riding buddy. 👍
Is there a reason you don’t go tubeless?
Can run lower pressures with a tube.
Good stuff. Regarding crashes, it happens if you love the challenge of more technical and interesting tracks. Thankfully most of the time most of us just pick ourselves up and walk & rideaway. Sometimes we and the bikes are a bit battered and need some repair and sometimes its more than that. Personally, I have experienced the latter once or twice and the former often. At no point has any of it dampened my enthusiasm for adventure riding. Either has it for any of my adv riding buddies. The ones that don't get it and comment negatively are road oriented riders. I take their advice with the regard their little experience deserves.
100% mate, the Pro’s of ADV riding far outweigh the Con’s.
Do you take out insurance with garmin In reach? I’ve heard a couple of horror stories where the person using In reach has had to pay huge amount for recovery.
SAR services in AUS are taxpayer funded (and some corporate sponsoring). Same with our hospital and healthcare. Shane (the patient) would have been out of pocket less than $1000. And that would have been transport back to his home and some pharmacy costs.
@@BigBikeAdventures same as uk, the incident I saw was in usa where she had to pay for helecopter costs.
You can't camp here... oh yes you can.
Yeah I was worried about you, and your health as you seems to have lost some mojo. My guess was the shock from the last big crash. Next was CV VX.
Look, having a big impact with a car certainly gets the brains working around the “what ifs” especially since my kids recently lost their Mother. So yeah, probably more aware of the dangers, but the no less riding.
Summed it up perfectly, my friend, when you said " you can't live your life in fear". Ride safe, live long friend.
Thanks mate. I did get a bit worked up. 😂😂
My TPMS did the same thing where it stopped monitoring and only showed 20psi. Checked the battery and it was flat and replaced with a new one. Only issue they are an odd size button battery. Had to go to a Battery World to get the right one. Did the other sensor as well before that one stopped also.
I didn’t think they were that old. Anyway got some new ones coming in the mail.
@@BigBikeAdventures My front lasted about 2 years before it went flat.
Loved your “rant”. Totally agree.
I got a bit worked up, that’s unusual for me.🤪😂
@@BigBikeAdventures - no. It was good you said it. Like you I don’t like watching vids of riders being hurt. But I did enjoy your slow-mo off, given you survived! Anyway us keyboard warriors need to f-off and find something useful to do. The reaction of the SES bloke, expressing pleasure at the rescue was enlightening. And obvious when you think about all the really nasty vehicle accidents and domestic violence they are exposed to. Keep up that heavy breathing on your vids. Wendy is strangely excited by it 🤣
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff haha. There used to be a number you could dial for the heavy breathing. 😂😂 You might be too young to remember 😎🤪😋
@@BigBikeAdventures - ha! I’m 69. I remember very well. And the highlight of my week at the barber getting short-back-and-sides was “reading” the pics and post mags 😳
😂😂
Well said mate, live for adventure 💯 If you wait it will be too late 🙂 It was refreshing to have all the emergency services commend us for doing what we love to do, there was no judgment or negative comments. It was the adventure that kept on giving, I will remember this ride for a very long time 🙂 I have used a Garmin InReach for nearly 10 years, my subscription is always active, I never leave home without it 👍🏼
Glad you are healing well mate. That’s one of the reason I record trips, it’s always good to go back and look at the adventures. 😂😂
100% agree with your comments in your rant.
Great episode Steve. I did the same thing with forgetting my camelback recently on a ride to Rainbow Beach from Teerwah beach, left it at the servo at Tewantin, back tracked about 3 hours later and it was still there, 😁cheers 👌👌🍻🍻🍷🍷
First time for me, we were pretty buggered though. I called the cafe to see if it was there, they went out and checked and said Yep, then left it where it was. 😂😂
@BigBikeAdventures I also rang the servo, they took it inside for me but first asked if it was a bomb 💣 😅
@@MrXrssv1 😂😂😂
Great video. First job every stop………..clean the screen. Dont forget there are thousands of subs riding with you and we need to see the road ahead. Stay safe.
LOL, new screen going on for that exact reason.
What a great series, great ride. Some attrition but overall success. Thank you for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it, one more coming.
I was in much the same spot as where you talked to that Farmer, in my Ute, wanting to go West to Warrabah NP. Google maps told me to continue, but I had a bad feeling... went around the long way and checked out the other end of the route and discovered Goggle was directing me to eventually cross the Namoi, where it was a bout 3M deep and 30M wide - haha! Great series Steve, sometimes plans going astray just leads to plenty of discovering and fun!
Thanks Dave, some of the tracks were inspired by some of your recent videos.
@@BigBikeAdventures Mate - we could spend years happily exploring that area - I love it too!
Great ride 👏👏
It’s not over yet.
Trust your gut. When it feels off, don't do it.
Was traction control on when you spun her around>? I just want to gauge if it TC is useless or not
TC was on low, but throttle input was neutral, zero traction was the problem.
Yeah, don't be too hard on yourself. There are many of us, out there, who tend to stick to the black stuff, because of that fear. Truth be told though, your road riding skills, would far out pass those who never cut their teeth in the dirt. Ride safe, live long friend, and remember to enjoy the journey.
Differently a bad idea and totally ridiculous taking a big overweight bike on those kind of roads!! Hopefully he is ok but at the same time they should have to cover all the cost for the SES rescue!!
Hard to know what the track is like if you don't go up the track. SAR in AUS is taxpayer and corporate funded.
