not only did she lose, she tapped out! Asuka was a badass, she ran through everyone, was undefeated for two years or whatever it was, wins the Rumble, gets to WrestleMania and taps out?? she never recovered from that 💯 only Vince can successfully destroy someone's mystique and make it seem like they were nothing.. look at what he did to Shinsuke Nakamura.. Triple H is trying to rebuild him but for years he was just a guy

Numbers 2 & 4 were upsetting, mainly number 4. I and probably many others were led to believe that Asuka would square off against Alexa Bliss at Wrestlemania 34. Everything seemed to go in that direction with her facing Mickie James, then gaining a victory over Nia Jax at Elimination Chamber. The wheels were set in motion until WWE decided to shift gears and go with Alexa vs Nia for the RAW Women's title. Once that happened, I knew the streak would end once she and Charlotte were matched up.

It wasn't ending Goldberg's streak that was the problem. He went down in a good manner. The problem was the Finger Poke of Doom a week later that made everything completely meaningless. If Kevin Nash had a long title run while kayfabe ducking Goldberg, it would probably be remembered rather well.

Yeah. It's easy to forget how incredibly popular the Wolfpack were in 1998, because the reunited NWO were such a shitshow in 1999. And Goldberg was an extremely polarizing figure in 1998. A lot of people thought his one-note win streak was sucking all the life out of the WCW world title. On the forums I frequented at the time, there was broad support for Kevin Nash to be the one to end Goldberg's winning streak.

WCW fans were also pretty much tired of Goldberg at the time, to the point when Nash won the crowd went nuts throw how happy they actually were.
Then Hogan had to do his power play with the Fingerpoke and Nash complied because it became clear it was that or basically not be allowed on TV anymore since Bischoff wasn't going to let him and Hall back to WWF.

Goldberg's streak wasn't as overinflated as you think. As of August 1998 on Wrestling Bio's Reliving the War series the actual count is 130 while the one WCW has is 134. He counts house shows and B shows on there too so that's how it's been so close.

Then he was scheduled to get a rematch at Royal Rumble 94… so I convinced my mom to buy me a PPV for the first time ever so I could see my hero get some revenge. Well, if it's any consolation? "The Viking" Ludvig Borga, or as we here in Finland know him better as, Tony Halme, ended up largely despised even by his own people. My personal theory is that just 10 years after that match with Tatanka, he was already at the brink of suicide during his relatively fresh political career. And he continued to be so until he actually managed to shoot himself in 2010, at 47 years of age. For much of his later life, he was just a miserable, drug-addled wretch of a human being. I'm sorry that your personal hero lost to him, and his ultimately stupid fucking gimmick of Finnish anti-industrialism, but his record of victories is also not really even worth any remembrance at this point. So all we can really do is laugh together at how pathetic this man actually ended up being.

I thought Asuka's trip to WrestleMania after winning the first women's Royal Rumble was doomed by Ronda showing up at the end. We knew she was going to show up at the event, but by putting it at the end and having her do the "I'm going to WrestleMania" pointing to the sign move, she upstaged Asuka on an historic night. Sure, Ronda was going to Mania, but that moment should have been Asuka's and there was NO reason for her to be there at that time, since she wasn't going to be in the ring with Asuka, Alexa, or Charlotte. Asuka's had a few decent reigns - and was also screwed over to make Becky Two Belts via Charlotte's involvement, but never got the Mania moment she deserves. Maybe next time, finally?

The royal rumble had so much hype in 2017 because people wanted to see Lesnar and Goldberg again. I still think Goldberg should've lost it two months earlier at Halloween Havoc to a red hot DDP. The Diamond Cutter was a move that was a credible finisher and DDP could hit it out of nowhere on anyone. Goldberg hits the Spear, goes for the jackhammer, DDP slides out of jackhammer, his the DC for a 2.9, a little back and forth, Goldberg goes for a Spear, DDP counters into a diamond cutter for the 1, 2, 3.

They REALLY leaned into the undefeated streak for Asuka and booked themselves into a corner for the Mixed Match Challenge. Since she was undefeated, she and Miz had to win, even though Braun and Bliss or Roode and Charlotte/Becky (Becky for 1 match) would have been just fine. Second, if you review the mythology of the Fiend, Goldberg beating him actually fits within the mythos. Fiend "beat" Cena in that weird match because of all the changes Cena went through over the years. The Fiend taunted Braun with how Braun used to be and won in the swamp. Both Bryan, Orton and Rollins have had different characters over the years. But, Goldberg has always been Goldberg. The Fiend's usual mind games couldn't work and Goldberg wins. Of course, none of that was ever mentioned or alluded to, but it still fits.

Jesus, such a Big Show bias on this channel. That decision for him to best Brock was absolutely brilliant, Show had been meandering along for some time until he randomly joined sd and became Lesnar's challenger, it turned out to be an amazing build up that already pretty much rehabbed Show as a threat, and it was nice to see them do something with it. Not big on second chances around here huh? Show went on to have an absolutely brilliant 2003 after, was one of the big rivals of Lesnar's first run too. That program made Show legit.

Asuka losing to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34 was the wrong decision as Asuka should’ve won that match then WWE would’ve had a feud that could’ve gone on for a few months with Charlotte Flair winning the title back at the end if they ultimately wanted Charlotte as champion. But you know Vince wanted Charlotte as champion especially since Asuka’s English isn’t very good and was even worse then. I honestly believe that Charlotte Flair has only won as many championships as she has is because she’s Ric Flair’s daughter, yes she would’ve won the title if she wasn’t his daughter but not having the record number of title wins for a woman, as being Ric Flair’s daughter she is much more marketable because of Ric’s accomplishments in wrestling. I love Asuka and technically she’s the best female wrestler in WWE, Becky Lynch is good too but she has such a great character, charisma and promos which is where Asuka fails due to her no being a great English speaker despite having great charisma

      WWE panicked.
Punk was feuding with Cena at the time and Cena suffered a minor injury (I stress minor because he was good to compete at Survivor Series onward that year) but that meant Punk had no PPV opponent for Hell in a Cell since WWE didn't really build any credible faces to book against Punk besides Cena.
WWE felt they needed *somebody* so they looked to Ryback and his kayfabe streak and decided he was the best option. Which is never good since it put Ryback into a spot he was too soon for and thus his streak and initial momentum went down the drain.
